Guest stinky fish taco Report post Posted February 12, 2011 He came out to take the open player and cut the angle off. I think he played that pretty well considering. The D has to cover that open man in the slot. cooll, thanks for reply. i'll make a note to completely ignore any post of yours that has to do with goaltending. Nightfall 871 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Are you serious? Watch Thomas on Sunday when he plays the Wings, count how many times he gets caught way out of position like that. I'm not saying Howard needs to play like Thomas, but my god, his positioning has been HORRIBLE the past two months. I guess to most wings fans, if the goalie isn't centered to the shot, even on a nifty passing play to an uncovered player, its failure on the goalie. Maybe Howard should call Nicholas Cage and ask him how he got that nifty power in the movie "Next". I guess being able to see the future is the key. 3 Vladifan, commadore183 and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

I guess to blind Wings fans its ok for the goalie to leave the crease on a PK and turn into some sort of defensemen and play the player outside of the blue paint. 3 greenrebellion, asoras and Skeptikal reacted to this

Ya because going down way out of your crease when the puck is practically on the back red line is really necessary and is solid positional goaltending. Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Thank you.. if anyone doesn't see how Howard wasn't in position is blind as hell. He wasnt even touching blue paint. Are you goalie?
DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Are you goalie? No, but its called common sense. PK leaving the net = goal. simple. Funny how you don't see other goalies leave there crease like that on a PK. Edited February 12, 2011 by darkmanx

Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Are you goalie? Is that relevant? I don't have to be a forward to critique a forwards play. Don't deflect simply to justify Howard's positioning on that goal.

Nightfall 871 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Is that relevant? I don't have to be a forward to critique a forwards play. Don't deflect simply to justify Howard's positioning on that goal. IMHO, people who have played the game seem to have more relevant analysis when it comes to hockey. Thats just my observation though. Do goalies let in weak goals or make mistakes on positioning? Yup. Just like defenses blow coverages and forwards turn pucks over. IMHO, if you are going to chew Howard out for crap positioning, then chew the D out for not covering the man in the slot. A lot of blame to go around on that goal, and the idiots blaming one party and only one party for that goal, is dumb. 3 Hockeymom1960, 13dangledangle and commadore183 reacted to this
greenrebellion 415 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Everyone on these forums needs to get a center ice sub and watch Lundquist and Thomas for a month, its really eye opening how many "unsavable" goals can be eliminated by rebound control and positioning
