"It was great to see those guys," Modano said. "A lot of them were part of World War I, World War II, Vietnam; I mean these are guys who put their lives on the line for us and for our freedom. They sacrificed to give us what w have today in this country, so it was great to meet them and shake their hands."

It still would be nice to have that one guy.

Without checking, I think the UK's last WW1 veteran died last year....
"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk

Frank Buckles, America's last WWI veteran, turned 110 on February 1st. He lives in West Virginia. His daughter reads all of his mail to him. On top of being a WWI vet, he was captured by the Japanese during WWII while he was working as a shipping company in the Philippines. He spent 3 years as their prisoner, living with captured soldiers in a POW camp.
