Is the Kaberle Saga Over?

Don't be sad... it might only be for a few months anyway.

Kaberle is a free agent and depending on our Defensemen and their retirement plans... or not.

You could still see him in a Wings uni.

Kaberle has as much of a chance wearing a Wings sweater as Evgeni Nabokov wearing a Wings or Islanders sweater lol. Kaberle's salary would exceed your $2.15mil cap room.

Um. I was certainly NOT talking about this year.

If Burke can pull off moving Lebda, I'd give the guy a lot more credit that I have in the past. (Still shake my head over the fact that he was signed in the first place.)

That being said, I don't think VAN is *that* desperate. :hehe:

As long as they have minor league players available, probably not...

You guys might want to spend that money on Shea Weber for when he becomes a FA so he can replace Nick when he gets ready to retire. There is THAT rumor going around...

I think there is about a .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that Nashville lets him get away at ANY price...

As was already touched on, the discussion of him possibly becoming a Wing would be next year when he is a FA, not this year and obviously, that would depend on Nick's plans...

I hope he's not a rental for us and I hope we don't give up Krejci. Guess we'll know when the deal is inked.

Krejci and Wheeler are the most likely guys to be moved. They're both young and have upside which makes them of the most interest to teams like Toronto.

Given how rough Krejci's year was last year I wouldn't be surprised to see him go (although I'd feel the same way as you if I were a Bruins fan).

Weber MIGHT do it if the price and right and I'm sure he is tired of getting bounced in the 1st round.

He's an RFA, so it's not his choice, all Nashville has to do is match any offer... and I can't see Nashville signing a 1 year deal either because of how valuable he is and any arbitrator would award at least 2 years...

EDIT - Plus, he's gone on record saying how much he loves the city and the team... he will most likely be a Predator for his career

I'd bet he'll see an extension of 7+ years and a boatload of money from Nashville before his contract ever ends...

Ya, it's been rumored that Krejci/Wheeler, around here, might be the ones going to the Leafs. I'm not crazy about letting Krejci go, however, Kaberle is a pretty damn good puck moving D-man which can help us out in the back end alot. Not hearing much about "prospects" though...

Anybody can say they love a city or team...having said that...you are correct on Nashville having to match any offer. With Nashville sitting on approx $28mil and their off season UFA and RFA they may spend that money to sign them AND to get some talent in Nashville. They need to dump Erat, which is taking up $5.5mil and he's not worth all that. Nashville has some interesting moves to make this summer.

Nashville could add the salaries of the Tamba Bay Rays in their budget. They'll match whatever a team offers and then double it for a laugh.

The saga continues:

In an interview with NHL Live!, Burke denied a CSNNE.com report which said Kaberle was headed to the Boston Bruins in a package that would involve Blake Wheeler and a draft pick.

"If we found something that was attractive and went back to the agent, Tomas might be receptive to that, but that's far from clear or far from done," said Burke, who reiterated that he would honor Kaberle's no-trade clause.

Burke also denied reports Boston is the only team to which Kaberle would accept a trade.

"I wouldn't accept those terms, that's not fair to us," Burke said. "That's not true that the deal is done with Boston. ... We continue to talk to multiple teams and we'll see where it goes."

Burke said he would go to Kaberle with a deal once he had a serious offer to consider, but that scenario hasn't happened yet.
