I gotta think rwf19 is referring to the fact that Ozzie is left on LTIR or moved. Then we could replace another $500k (I haven't verified the number but I'll believe the poster) since he'd be off the active roster for the remainder of the season retroactive to when he went down.

It's not. You can exceed the upper limit by an amount up to the cap hit of the player on LTIR only while he is on LTIR. Once he is reactivated, you must return to cap-compliance. A player's salary always counts against the cap; you don't accumulate space for the days they're on LTIR.

Just an FYI: I verified Ozzie potential LTIR salary remaining and its only $312,276. So, they could not at add $500k if they acquire a goalie and keep Ozzie on LTIR or move him. Needless to say, $312,276 is the amount they could add.
