Kings GM complaining about calls

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I was watching an online stream last night and the stream didn't show commercials. Instead, the cameras were still on. After the first intermission, Dean Lombardi was called to the broadcast booth to do an interview. When he got there, he started bitching about two of the penalties called against the Kings (the high-stick on Greene was a bad call). He then said, "Well, it's Detroit." I've heard this from fans before, but I was surprised to hear it from a GM. You would think he would know better than to think Detroit gets a hall pass on every call.

Lombardi is a whiny blowhard, bottom line. This is the same guy that blasted Red Berenson over the coaching of Jack Johnson last year and questioned the integrity of Mike Murphy and got slapped with a $50K fine earlier this year.

There's clearly a disconnect somewhere between his brain and his mouth.

I find it interesting that he'd run his mouth like that knowing that the cameras are still running to some respect. I mean, they have to know that with those international feeds and whatnot, the intermissions/commercial breaks feature live audio.

I found it hilarious that Stoll was going apes*** in the box after he saw the replay of himself clearly high-sticking Filppula in the face. Seriously Stoll, WTF were you looking at that made you think you weren't as guilty as they come.

Now, the Greene high-sticking call I'll agree. That was BS, but atleast justice was served and we didn't score on it.

I'm actually blown away by that whole opinion in itself. If anything, because we're Detroit, we don't get the calls (see SJ-DET rnd 2 last year). DMac and Osgood were very vocal about how terrible the officiating was when we played Pittsburgh in the finals.

I love the Wings, but I know I will be honest about who's getting the calls. I even feel kind of lame for other teams when they get burned by bad officiating. But we get burned far more often (see Tomas Holmstrom) and I'm sure if we made a thread about certain situations where we got the short end of the stick, it would b quite a long one.

This is the same guy that gave up a ton to get Dustin Penner. He's just pissed because he thought he built the Kings to contend for the Cup this year and that were getting killed by one of the best teams in the West and it showed just how far the Kings still have to go before being a serious contender. "Its Detroit". Whatever. How about, "why are the Kings losing?" "Well it's the Kings".

After seeing myself I thought no doubt about it. Then it showed Stolls reaction to the same replay and I almost fell off the couch at the sight of him pounding on the glass, what the hell did he see??lol

Hahahaha! Hard to argue that logic. Well said.

He complains like this to reporters, so I doubt he cares if there are non-NA TV cameras on him.

Agreed. He's already been fined $50k for shooting his mouth off. Apparently he didn't learn his lesson.

That being said, there were some marginal calls that favored the Wings last night. The call on Greene was an absolutely awful one. He caught Homer with his head down on a great hit. Kindl dove on the trip by Clifford. Though Clifford was pretty clearly trying to trip him. and Stoll's hook against Dats was pretty soft too, but so was one of Hudler's penalties.

There is no conspiracy by the league to give the Wings the benefit of the doubt, though I'd say they came out a little ahead in the calls last night.

More than anything, Lombardi should shut his yap and find a better power play coach for the Kings. They don't have the skill level that the Wings do, but their PP shouldn't look as lame and disorganized as it often is.

The Kings beat the Wings 5-0 and 3-2 earlier this season, and I think split the regular season series with the Wings before that.

Yes, the Kings have further to go compared to the Wings, but one 7-4 win to show that is cherrypicking their matchups a bit.

I'd love for the Wings to make the defensive effort the Kings do game in and game out. Just like I'd like the Kings to have even half the offensive talent the Wings possess.

I think people see that the Wings are consistently at the bottom of the pile in PIM and assume the league helps them, when in reality they just play a clean game. But the Wings constantly get screwed by bad calls at the worst possible times. I won't say there's a conspiracy against Detroit (except from O'Halloran) but to suggest there's a conspiracy in FAVOR of Detroit is even more ridiculous.

Guest Hatethedrake!

Ever since Mario started whining again I thought this may happen. Other owners and GM's play copycat and do the same. I don't think I've ever heard Kenny play THE REFS ARE SCREWING US game.

Kenny doesn't have to. We do it for him. And we don't count against the Cap, nor can we be fined.

I was not able to see the game last night due to work, but having read the opinions of some very reputable people in this thread, I am comfortable in believing that it stank.

For. Against. I think fans of all teams (except those who don't have fans that understand the game) have tinfoil hats on.

It would be interesting to be able to go back and add up all of the bad calls, but since some are either borderline or the rule is open to interpretation, I don't see how this could be done.

The problem is these guys don't understand that they aren't going to change anything by complaining.

The Wings shrug it off, like in Dallas, Homer gets robbed, does he shut down and whine? No he goes and gets a goal anyway.

Instead of trying harder to adhear to the rules and not get caught, the Kings gave up.

That is why Lombardi was mad.

If Penner was your saving grace, you should have got him before the deadline.
