Changes from 2010 to 2011:

-The addition of the Indian Grand Prix

-The Malaysian Grand Prix will have its name changed to the Malaysia Grand Prix for tourism purposes

-The cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix

The Bahrain Grand Prix, originally scheduled for March 13th, was canceled due to anti-government protests. There was no threat to the drivers or others involved in the Grand Prix race, but the Bahrain monarchy decided to focus all of their attention to the protesters' demands instead of having it divided with the Grand Prix. It is possible that the race will be rescheduled to a later date, most likely near the end of the season. A final decision about the race is expected to be made before the start of the Australian Grand Prix weekend.

Changes from 2010-2011:

Team Changes

-Hispania F1 has a partnership with Williams to supply a transmission system; also forging a partnership with Spanish businessman Juan Villalonga

-Lotus Racing team principle Tony Fernandez purchased the rights to the Team Lotus name from David Hunt so as to rename the team; the team (now known as Team Lotus) then terminated their three-year contract with Cosworth and switched to Renault engines.

-Lotus Cars partnered with Renault F1 and became the title sponsor of the team, now known as Lotus Renault GP, but the chassis and constructor will still be officially known as Renault because of the Concorde Agreement.

-Infiniti will be a major sponsor of Red Bull Racing, but despite earlier reports, will not rebrand the engine as an Infiniti.

-PDVSA, the government-controlled oil company of Venezuela, will be a long-term sponsor of the Williams team after the departure of RBS, Philips and AirAsia.

-Russian sport car manufacturer Marussia acquired a significant stake of Virgin Racing and, as such, the team as been renamed "Marussia Virgin Racing".

Driver Changes

-GP2 driver Jerome d'Ambrosio replaces Lucas di Grassi at Virgin Racing.

-DTM champion Paul di Resta replaces Vitantonio Liuzzi at Force India.

-Nico Hulkenberg was released from Williams before the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He will become a test driver for Force India.

-Narain Karthikeyan returns to F1 to drive for the Hispania team. He previously competed in F1 with the former Jordan team.

-The biggest driver news, Robert Kubica was seriously injured during the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy; the car he was piloting struck a section of guardrail that then penetrated through the car, into the cockpit, then out the rear of his Skoda. The accident nearly severed his right arm, not to mention the multiple fratures to his arm, hand and leg. He is estimated to take a year to recover from his injuries. Because of this, Nick Heidfeld will take over the driving duties of the Pole.

-The 2010 GP2 champion, Pasto Maldonado, signed on for the Williams team, taking Hulkenberg's seat.

-2010 GP2 runner-up Sergio Perez is teaming up with Kamui Kobayashi for the Sauber team, coinciding with the partnership between Telmex and Sauber.

-Bruno Senna left Hispania Racing after the 2010 season and has joined Lotus Renault GP as a test/reserve driver.

Both Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were penalized 20 seconds in lieu of a drive through penalty at the end of the race by the stewards; Hamilton for making more than 1 defensive move to block Alonso, and, for some damn reason, Alonso was penalized for "avoidable contact" with Hamilton after Hamilton slowed exiting a corner and Alonso made slight contact with Hamilton's rear tyre causing no damage to Hamilton but Alonso needed to change his front wing.

Anyone here planning on attending the 2012 USGP in Austin, TX?

I sent them an email letting them know I'm interested - however I get the impression tickets will be quite a bit more than what I was paying when I went to Indy.

Well we paid A$420 for a 4 day pass on the Fangio grandstand in Melbourne last year, worth every cent to see Jenson lift the silverware right in front of us.

Just wish we could afford to see the Wings lift Mr Stanley at the Joe..

Sergio Perez crashed during the qualifying session at the chicane at the exit of the tunnel, and sustained a concussion, and thus did participate in the event. He's expected to drive at Canada in a week.

Lewis Hamilton was nailed twice in the race for avoidable contact, one with Felipe Massa at about the mid-point of the race, and again with Pastor Maldonado at the end, with the 2nd accident incurring a 20 second drive-through penalty.

Adrian Sutil also got a drive-through penalty in the race for contact at the Hairpin.

The race was red flagged with about 5 laps left in the race due to an accident at the Swimming Pool complex that required rescue teams to extract Vitaly Petrov, who was unhurt in the incident. During the red flag, the teams were permitted to change tyres and perform other work on the cars; that proved to be advantageous to Vettel, who was on tyres that were about 60 laps old.

Jimmie Johnson blew his engine with about 5 laps left in the race, bringing out the caution and the GWC when everyone was trying to save some fuel. On the restart, there was a small incident between Jeff Burton and a few other drivers, but the race remained green. On the final lap, in T3, Dale Jr was leading the field to the checkered flag when he ran out of gas. Harvick passed Dale Jr to win his 3rd race of the season. Twice that day, a National Guard sponsored car failed to win the race when leading on the final lap.

And on Tuesday, 2 time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart and 2008 FIA Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton "swapped" rides at Watkins Glen International for a little demonstration run promoted by Mobil 1. Both drivers did a few laps in their own cars, then switched to each others for a few laps. The baseline laps were done in wet conditions and the track started drying out as the day went on. Here's part 1 of the event:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yzs-2bDai8

Both drivers had a blast, and both quickly adapted to the cars as they went on, with Lewis even drifting it a bit through a few of the turns, then did a few donuts at the start/finish line, while Smoke was ripping it during his runs (as much as he could without binning a detuned car).

The next race is on June 26th at Valencia street circuit for the European Grand Prix.

EDIT: Bahrain GP officially scratched

The calendar is now down to 19 events instead of the intended 20.
