Guest Howard He Do It?!

This team is 2nd in the West for a reason and it is not by pure, blind luck. Did the team look bad tonight and show just about nothing on offense? Yes, but we still have the highest scoring offense in the league.

I have a feeling that this team gets chewed out and devastates the Oilers come Friday.

Unfortunately, there's no way we can win; Howard just doesn't score enough goals. Hell, it seems like the guy never spends any time in the offensive zone. What's up with that?

Wait, we lost 2 to 1 and we're talking about Howard? I didn't see the game (or rather I couldn't see the game), so maybe I'm missing something, but where was everybody when he let 4 goals in against the Kings last week? Yeah, we won that game, but no thanks to him. Now we only put up 1 goal in the whole game, and everybody's talking about goaltending? I mean, I'm not denying we could use some stronger goaltending - my god, we could use some stronger goaltending - but why do we only talk about it when we lose, even if the GA was pretty low? Just sayin'...

Can I whine for a second? Yeah, why not. I just don't know what to do with these guys. Even when we're bad, it's not consistent. Defense sucks one night; the next nobody can score a goal to save their lives. One night Howard's okay, the next two he bombs out. Bad passes, turnovers, bad times for pinches, rookie behind-the-goal mistakes...you name it, they've done it. At this point, I'll take the s***e defense if they'll just put up some points. I was whining about the 7-4 game, but I'll take that over a loss with two goals against. Whatever, just win a few in a row for the love of Jobu!!

Anyway, glad to hear Zetter's doing a little better...I worry about him. I don't know what the hell's up with Franzen; I've given up trying to figure out what his problem is. Bert's allowed to have a small cold streak since he had a small hot one a couple of weeks ago. This cold one better stay small, though.

Actually, those goals got scored pretty much because the team severely let up on the proverbial gas pedal. They all came in the last five minutes of the game, when the team had a six-goal lead.

Yes, exactly. Why let up on the gas pedal? Yeah, you've got a six-goal lead, but what better time to get some defensive practice since we obviously need it? I know Howie and the D had a great game until the last part of the 3rd, but those last 5 minutes are still more of a reason to complain than a 2-goal against game where offense seemed to be the problem, not defense.

This team has been absolutely freaking pathetic. Its always something with these guys, they let in 5 goals a game or dont score any. Dats and Z have zero chemistry out there, I think its time to split them up. After the showing against the Yotes Babs seemed pretty pissed but it doesn't seem like he did much. Its not like they played horrible tonight, but I dont care how hot the goalie is this team only scored 1 goal. The Wings performing like they have the last 3 months is just frustrating as hell. You know they arent giving it their all every game, and they play with zero momentum.

His line didn't do very well, but that is because Franzen and Bertuzzi are pretty much the laziest players on the Wings. Filppula set Kronwall up on a glorious chance and he nearly scored a couple goals himself. Filppula was one of the best forwards tonight, albeit that's not saying much.

his line didn`t do very well, either did he. When they had chances they didn`t take advantage of them including Filppula himself, Bert made 2 good passes to him and Filppula missed the net and shot right into the stomach the next time.

I was there last night....

-Great first period. Obviously.

-Howard needs to really settle down and control the shots on him. I think he held on to about 3-5 shots the whole game.

-Waaaay too many turnovers.

-Extremely sloppy play in the 2nd and 3rd.

-Awful no-call on the high-stick to Lids.

Quick played out of his mind after the weak goal by Danger. People saw those saves right?

2 right on the doorstep and Nick just missed a wide open net at the end there. Excuses excuses, I know but this can't be overlooked. They just need to figure this out at home quickly.

Agreed.

In spite of how we react here after a loss, it's not like this team sucks. Far from it. It's just frustrating to watch a team with so much talent underperform and get outworked. The Kings have probably half the talent that the Wings do, but with the exception of the blowout in LA, they've outworked the Wings every time.

Franzen had one shot on goal in over 17 minutes of icetime. And when he's not getting the puck on net, it's not like he's doing other great things out there, like hitting guys and grinding it out.

I'm still wondering how there wasn't a call on the high stick.. The puck is right there, you would think the 2 refs or at least 1 of them would be looking at the puck

Another pathetic effort. Howard can't be blamed for this one. When is this team going to run out of excuses? Playing like this, they are gone 1st round. Of course this is assuming they even make the playoffs. Can they at least beat the mighty Oilers? Or will they make them look like the 77 Habs too?

Guys we don't need to hit the panic button just yet. Like someone said above, we're still second in the west. There's still what, 15 games left to play? As far back as I can remember (since I'm young), the wings ALWAYS played sloppy like this in February and March, and then turned it on when the season was in it's waning moments. Yeah it frustrates me too to see them play like this but we should give them the benefit of the doubt shouldn't we?

I don't mind the losing but could they at least put a solid effort in? They played so well in those 2 games against Boston. I thought we've been giving them the benefit of the doubt since early December? The team is not hungry. I think even Babs is not hungry anymore. Has he snapped on this team yet? Do they just ignore him? I can't figure this team out.

They have 3 days off and play a team which has to fly across the country to play them and they score 1 goal at home? We're the easiest team in the league to play right now. We don't compete. It's all perimiter shoot from the boards hockey. No one pays the price and they miss the net ten times more than they used to. There is no puck support and Z and Dats are trying to be the Harlem Globetrotters and stickhandle through 4 guys all the time. Teams have us figured out. Clog the neutral zone and pick off the stupid east west passes. Teams have been employing these tactics for years on us. It can be combated if we hustle and support each other. Babs says you should always see 5 Wings on the tv at all times. I usually see 2 maybe 3. The Wings always lose the numbers games. Instead of dumping the puck in they keep it and turn it over. They create no offense. The power play is predictable. No team speed and too many battles lost.

This team is outworked EVERY game. The Joe is an easy place to play right now. It has been for all of 2011. I keep hearing they will be good when the playoffs roll around. Last I checked we have not clinched a birth yet. The standings are so close right now. We can't win 1 game a week and expect to get in. Right now I'm just looking for a win. This team reminds me of the 2006 team which played lazy perimiter hockey. It's all individual and no team play. The talent is not being used properly. It coaching or player execution? I don't know. All I know is that this kind of hockey is a recipe for failure. They all seem pretty content losing though. It seems no one is mad enough to do anything about it. I thought Babs would have lost it by now but obviously he hasn't. The players don't seem to care. We heard Franzen and Zetterberg say how good they thought the team was playing during this losing streak.

Matthew Barnaby just said the wings will be the stanley cup champs, on espn2.

He also said the Caps would win the Cup last year.

That's because they were. Minus some spurts in the LA and PHX game, of course. We were in the SJ game until Joey's gaffe. That's not to say I enjoyed the results of the games; it's a complete bummer we lost in PHX. With that being said, I felt we owned the first period last night, and totally got screwed out of a double minor (obviously). But, as Babcock said, "Those are the breaks." You just deal with them and move on. I don't want Babcock to become irate again - we know what the problems are, they know what the problems are, and I'm sure are trying to correct it. I tend to agree with Jimmy's sentiments following last night's game - we didn't win, but we definitely put forth a far better effort than what was shown in the 3rd period in PHX. There was definitely a conscious effort to dump and chase last night, and it paid dividends in the first period. Then we kind of relented with that strategy after we were down and I saw the old "try to deke at the blue line when there are 4 opposite colored jerseys around me" routine. The good news is this: atleast we didn't give up many goals, and we now have recent film on how to protect a lead in the NHL. Unfortunately, it was the Kings maintaing the lead, but the Red Wings will take notes I'm sure and move on. While I don't disagree that the Joe is easy to play at right now, I firmly believe we can take a few positives out of last night's game and translate them into a win next game. A couple calls and bounces here and there, and it could have been a different outcomes last night. In any event, here's to a stomping of the Oil on Friday!

Defending the POS makes you look like a fool. Have you taken a look at his stats lately? He can't stop a puck at a critical time of the game. His rebound control is like a ping pong ball bouncing off a ping pong table. He shouldn't ever try to puck handle, he causes a turnover or makes bad decisions.

The guy is a bum and a waist of a roster spot. Wings are not winning the cup with him in net.

Wow, you really have issues don't you

What a load of crap. After reading this one would think that we were headed for an 0-82 season. Guess what ALL team have nights when they don't play well or play well and still lose. And NO, we don't have more than other teams. In fact, that's the point. We have the 3rd best point percentage in the entire league which means that we have fewer nights like this than 27 other teams.

"This teams is outworked EVERY game." That really takes the cake. And you are wrong. We could win one game a week and still get in. That's about 6 games which is 12 points and that would give us 98 points which is easily enough to get in.

Next time, try to compose a rational post
