They are without Crosby, Malkin and Orpik

and they also started their backup

They are outplaying the Wings and down right embarrassing them right now

Wow, our goalie situation looks great going into the playoffs.

Then again, Osgood is coming back soon.

Howard's been playing well lately aside from this game. Unless he follows this up with another lackluster effort, I'm willing to still believe that he's on the up after a rough go of it for most of the season. If he gets lit up on Wednesday, then I'll be legitimately worried considering his norm this season has indeed been lackluster. But right now, I'm not worried.

Seriously Jimmy wins way more than he loses and if you day it's because he's got a great D you're totally wrong

Not a great defense but a great offense which has inflated his win total far beyond what his actual play in goal deserves. Look at his GAA and/or save percentage. He wins because the team in front of him has scored a ton of goals. I can't tell you the last time I remember Howard stealing a game for the Red Wings.

Yeah, you're right. Last season it's because he played great despite crap defense. This season it's because he's got a great offense. He has not played great most of this year and absolutely benefitted from the offense being so strong this year. Again, he deserves all the credit for last seasons record, but this year, no, not at all.

The best goalie in the league, IMO is Henrik Lunquvist. He simply stands on his head night in and night out and is the ONLY reason that the Rangers are in the playoff spot. Another thing that tells me he is the best is that he has CONSISTENTLY been good for multiple seasons in a row. If I had an ability to replace Howard with 1 goalie in the league, it would be King Henrik.

Anyways, since we do not have that option, this game is a last straw for Howard and I think Ozzie should be given a chance; if he plays good upon his return, which should be wednesday or saturday, thn he should keep playing and into the playoffs. This is not timbit leagues, this is the NHL and Jimmy Howard does not cut it. Ozzie in net for any playoff success

We aren't paying him 7 million to steal games.

And where has that great offense been?

What are we paying him for? To let in 4 goals on 16 shots and all of them were garbage? The offense has been there all year and on nights when three prominent forwards are hurt, I don't think it's too much to ask your goalie to at least keep the team in the game.

Brent Johnson seems to be doing it just fine.

If Ozzie didn't take so long in coming back, he would have secured a starting position in the playoffs.

Babcock has not been afraid to bench Hasek or Ozzie in his time here. I have no doubts that he would have benched Howard as well, who is a much less accomplished goalie than those two.

Now, I'm not so sure. Ozzie doesn't have any time to get back to playing shape, in order to start the playoffs.

He might have been able to lock down the starting spot if he continued to play well and Howard continued to struggle, but I still think either way Howard was/is likely to start, but he'll be on a short leash. After last years playoffs and this years spotty play, so long as Osgood isn't on IR, he'll get a shot if Howard struggles.

But I'm still thinking Howard is upping his game at the right time, and unless he follows this up with more poor play, he's heading into the playoffs on the right note, and that's a good thing. Sometimes struggling and recovering does more for you when the pressure's coming down hardest than good regular season play without much struggle. You've got to learn to roll with the punches and keep fighting to succeed in the playoffs, and you have to believe that in that sense this season has been character building for Howard.

Wow, I had to turn it off. :puke:

Have a good night, everyone.

This. I'm disgusted. I rush home from class to watch what I thought was going to be a great game. Instead I got this garbage. Oh well at least there's something good on the history channel.
