Long time reader - first time poster.

Tonight was the culmination of nearly three months of sub-par hockey. I was unfortunate enough to be at the Nashville game where the team was booed and ripped by Babs, and I was hopeful that was the last game of the season like that, sadly it wasn't.

Too many things are problems right now, and it's not just a lack of effort. There is absolutely no structure to the Wings game right now. Defensemen are missing assignments and leaving huge gaps, there are numerous turnovers, the forwards aren't helping on D, and the offense is usually one and done without any sustained pressure. As a former coach, I know these issues cannot be fixed overnight, they are things that take time, something the Wings obviously don't have a lot of. The attention to detail that the team has prided itself on for many years is non-existent, and its leading to embarrassing moments in games.

The secret is out on how to beat the Wings. Forecheck, hit, outwork and outskate. No one fears this team anymore, they are just another face in the crowd of the NHL. I'm not sure if the Wings recognize this or not, but their home record is indicative of how teams view them now. The Joe was once a feared place to play, now the Wings are lucky to outshoot a team at home.

There needs to be systemic changes before the playoffs start, or else this team is in deep trouble. I trust Babs as a coach and I only hope that the players haven't started t tune out what he has to say.

I'm not going to lie... as painful as it was to watch, we needed this....

I think losing game after game 5-4, 3-2, 4-2... so on and so forth... by shoot outs and over times... gives the team a false sense of security that they are right there, but not constantly not putting the effort to get over the hump to start winning those games. A game like is is really a kick in the teeth. It is embarrassing as a player and shows you really how poor and how horrible you are actually playing. I know everyone else is hoping that this is a kick start to a great playoff run and quite frankly in can go either way. We can take it as a "bad night" shake it off and get back to mediocre hockey or we can take it as an insult that some one came into our barn, ran all over us, and we just laid over and took it. Hopefully we take that second look about it and play with a chip on our shoulder the rest of the way. Make every game a statement game and not just the next one.

This is about as positive I can get with this game... hopefully we take this as a kick in the teeth and turn it around...

I'm thinking that instead of Babs skating the hell out of the boys today, they should all stand in the corner with their noses in a little white circle on the chalk board. Dunce caps and Groucho Marx glasses seem fitting too....

They can't have played that horribly without trying to suck, could they?

I was in attendance at this epic ass-kicking - stayed until the bitter end. FSD replays Wings game at midnight - I recorded it just so I could listen to what Mickey has to say about this.

It was like a time warp for me - I was expecting to be wearing stone-washed jeans and have mall hair it was so reminiscent of the 80s. Not a walk down memory lane I enjoyed.

What did Mick say?

And did you ask for your money back? You really should. You may not be able to get the time back but you can definitely make a fuss about the money.

I haven't watched it yet, so I don't know what Mickey's comments were.

I said the Wings should take out every one of the fans who stayed and do whatever the fans wanted them to.

The pairing of Ericsson with anyone isn't going to work.

100% agreement. Ericsson is a tower of suck. A shining beacon tower of suck. Ericsson can't skate fast. He can't hit. He doesn't keep the net clear. The only thing Ericsson is good at is passing the puck to an opposing player resulting in scoring chances and goals.

Ericsson. Frickin'. Sucks.

Wow, one bad game and the bandwagon Wings fans are jumping off. Please delete your account off the site and go join the ranks of the Canucks. Some members on this site are an absolute embarrassment to real Wings fans who back their team.

Seriously? We have every right to rag on the team after last night's performance. If it was a 3-2, 4-2 type loss, that's one thing. When you get blown out 10-3, on home ice, against a team with no playoff hopes what so ever, we have every right as fans to criticize.

Why is it that you can't criticize a the Wings for an abysmal performance around here without being called a fair weather fan?

Rag on? Yes. To find faults with the Wings? Thats fine too because every team has them. Consider the season to be over and saying that the Wings are going anywhere? Thats another thing.

Well said. Getting booed off the ice is never a good thing either

Poor play, bad habits, and lack of focus and intensity this close to the play offs warrants these reactions. Just because we don't all wear our rosey red Red Wing glasses doesn't make us any less of fans. the truth is this team hasn't been the same since that bitter loss to Pittsburgh and I feel some new blood is in order. Who knows what happens this year but of they can't win at home and we end up with home ice advantage... well you tell me what's likely to happen come play offs... Oh right, they will flip that imaginary red switch right and all the problems will go away! If this game doesn't serve as a wakeup call then we are in for some big BIG disappointments come play offs and an early golf season is quite likely.

The only real positive thing about the timing of this is that the Wings dont play again til Saturday afternoon which means they will get to stew over this embarassment until then. I obviously havent watched Wings hockey for as long as some of the other posters here but I have been a Wings fan for as long as I can remember and I don't think I have ever seen anything as telling about the Wings as I did in the 3rd when the camera focused on Lidstrom sitting on the end of the bench, he just looked completely pissed off and frustrated with how the team was playing..

I dont think the Wings need a bag skate or anything like that, they need to sit in the video room for the next 2 days and just watch that clip of Lidstrom's face over and over again then go out on Saturday and play some god damn hockey for a change. They should also make it their mission to do whatever it takes to help their captain finish the season with a plus, they owe him that much.

ANY chance there is a vid or pic of that? I honestly do not think I have EVER seen that! (Lidstrom angry that is....)

Are you watching the same Red Wings team as I am?

I never ***** about the goalies, because goalies have good games and bad games like everybody else.

HOWEVER...

The Wings aren't just having bad games, they are in a progressive slouch towards the playoffs. As the season progresses, every aspect of their game looks worse. As Babs pointed out, he doesn't really mind if they lose so long as they play well.

...they are NOT playing well, and that poor level of play is only getting worse.

I'll say the goalies are the exception. Mac does well, but I'm sure facing a zillion shots every night gets old for a new goalie.

We are losing our creativity on offense and the PP as the season wears on. You must not be watching games if you can't see that.

Our defense is...good god...what can a person say? If you don't think our D is in a free-fall and getting worse, then you are watching another team's channel.

I've been a Wings fan forever, and I'm sure I'm older than most of the people on this board. If we were a bad team playing hard but getting thumped, such is life. Consequently:

-We're either a bad team that over-achieved the first half of the season and is massively overpaid, ala the rangers. or

-We're a good team that is losing the capacity to play well.

I believe we're in the second situation, which is wayyyyyyyyy more scary. Bad teams can be up-regulated over time. But when great players start to lose confidence in their abilities (despite having an outstanding head coach, imho) more great players won't help.

If we were a corporation, the answer would be a change of leadership.

THIS BELIEF DOES NOT MAKE ME A BANDWAGON FAN!

This was a defensive performance 3 years in the making. 2009 we got bailed out by our powerhouse offence night after night. 2010 we blamed it on injuries. This season has got progressively worse defence wise. The continuous mistakes, the lack of hustle, intesity and willingness to sacrifice from everyone, forwards to defence, Lidstrom to Ericsson, coupled with goaltending that oscilates between average and mediocre have all built up to this. This is not an overnight phenomena, and I don't see it being fixed overnight on the day the playoff start.

Of course this is the game I picked to go to this season. Wow what a disappointment. Worst loss at home since 1988!!

WORST SINCE: This is the worst loss at home since the Flyers won, 11-6, on Feb. 23, 1988. It's also the most goals the Red Wings have allowed since that game.
