Are the Wings going to keep the Hawks out of the playoffs?

*not sure if this was brought up or not*

Right now:

Anaheim: GP 79 PTS 93

Chicago: GP 79 PTS 93

Dallas: GP 79 PTS 91

Calgary: GP 80 PTS 91

If Dallas wins their 3 remaining games (COL, MIN, MIN) (or wins 2 and loses 1 in OT), the will have 96/97 PTS. The Hawks would have to win at least 1 of their remaining 3, and then either win a second game or get one point in overtime.

So it looks like the last two games for Chicago against Detroit will decide whether they make the playoffs or not (assuming Dallas keeps winning and Anaheim keeps winning).

IDK, I think it would be awesome to see this happen. THought?

p.s. sorry if this doesn't make sense, I have been studying for my stats test for 6 hours.

Its actually 2 against Colorado and 1 against Min.

It could happen, but at this point its a toss up.

I see little upside to Detroit purposely trying to out Chicago over Dallas or Calgary. Chicago is a shorter trip, closer time zone. Dallas and Calgary are not necessarily easier teams to beat.

I think Detroit will rest as much as possible. Those who they play against Chicago will play to win, but I'd bet we still see players rest.

Colorado? You mean Calgary right?

Besides, Dallas and Calgary both have less skill then Chicago and it's just the point of ousting our biggest rival before they even have a chance at defending the title.

I predicted a few months ago that Chicago wouldn't make the playoffs. But right now I think they can get 3 or 4 points in 3 games. I'm not sure Red Wings have the same feeling as you do, I think they are looking to save health and energy for a deep playoff run. And I'd rather Vancouver play Chicago in the first round instead of Dallas.

It's bitter/sweet for me. I really hate Canucks because their fans are so arrogant and think they have the best team ever iced the past 10 years. Chicago can wipe the floor with their team yet again.

Psst... I think you mean Calgary, not Colorado. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you screwed up.

Agree. Remember the 08' cup run was the Preds, then the Stars, then the Hawks. The Wings never had to go out of the Central time zone. The West coast games are killers when the team with home ice advantage is in the Mountain or West.

Yes, not sure how I got the two confused. Perhaps reading Colorado's name in the previous post. Oops!

I would find it hilarious, I really want dallas to face vancouver, it would be an absolute meat grinder of a series with tons of injuries, get at least one of the sedins out of the way, maybe a defenseman like salo, a team like dallas will batter any team they play in a playoff series and it will only be vancouver at this point imo, why not, let them batter the s*** out of them and weaken them for round 2

I don't remember The Hawks being IN the 08 playoffs. It was Nashville, COLORADO, and Dallas, who did a whole lot of heavy lifting that year. ( Anaheim, San Jose )

09 was Columbus, Anaheim, Chitcacgo.

This may help clear it up a little.

^ this ... if it ever came down to it and we had control of Chicago's destiny, I'd let them win the last game to be #8. I want to see if Chicago can do it 3 years in a row :P

I'm conflicted. In general, I like the city of Chicago. I have some family there. One of my friends down here is originally from Chicago. I went to Chicago for the first time in probably about 20 years this past April and enjoyed it. In general I like the concept of Chicago sports.

However part of me would go HA-HA if the Wings kept them out. Not because of the team, overall for the most part I like the Blackhawks team, usually always have. It is because of their fans. I'm probably not being completely fair and every sports team in every city has plenty of a'holes and morons, but I always thought people in here read too much into the Chicago vs. Detroit thing, at least from the NHL teams. Honestly I don't mind the Detroit sucks thing, it's silly but they can say thousands of things worse. But when I watched that game and the ceremony honoring Chris Chelios who was one of the best franchise players ever and most the crowd booed him, that kinda did it for me. I was stunned.

Also, back in 2006 the Saints down here were playing in the NFC Championship game at the Chicago Bears. I didn't go up to that game but knew some people that did, they said they were miserable there (not talking about the weather, the disrespect they got towards fans there), and listening to local talk radio down here the few days after the game, I didn't hear one good story from locals saying they were treated well by Chicago Bear fans, that some were being disrespectful towards them with Hurricane Katrina (it was just roughly 1 - 1 1/2 years removed from Katrina wreaking havoc down here). I remember seeing a picture of a Bear fan sporting a billboard saying "We are going to finish what Katrina started". I don't get too much into fan smack talk or stupid s**t like that showing others up but that's just something you do not do.

So, I'm probably not being completely fair to all Chicago fans, but I don't recall many good experiences reading about them in recent memory.

My guess is no though, I think there will be a split of the final 2 games, and they get in.

I think a lot of it will depend on what happens in the next couple of days with San Jose. If the Sharks win tonight and the Wings lose it'll be a 3 point spread with 2 games remaining and you'll probably see some resting going on. It may get down played but Detroit does want that 2nd seed because realistically, even though we all feel Chicago has a good shot of upsetting the Canucks if they were to make the 8th seed (which they do), you've got to assume the top 4 seeds advance which means Detriot faces SJ in the second round and the Wings would want home ice (despite their recent troubles at the Joe.

So if Detroit wins tonight and 2nd is within their reach they'll be coming out to win those games against CHI. If 2ns isn't within reach you may see a more relaxed final weekend.

Another thing to keep in mind, as a fan (I doubt the Wings are really thinking this), but if Chicago does make it and faces the Canucks even though it's a 1 vs. 8 match up if the Canucks beat the Hawks it'll be a massive feather in their cap. They'll see it as them finally beating their playoff rival and it will give them serious momentum and confidence. I think if we see that first round match up and the Canucks win it they'd cruise to the conference finals.

Who cares whether or not it would be easy for the Wings to get Chicago in the playoffs? Pretty much every team in the West would be a tough matchup in some aspects, and have some weaknesses that the Wings could expose. But eliminating Chicago in the last two games would be the more fun way of going into the

playoffs. Don't act like you wouldn't enjoy that feeling as a Wings fan.

Plus we wouldn't have to listen to NBC and VS people salivating over their every move in the playoffs.

I would love detroit to put these hawks out of the playoffs

it would serve them right for choosing to raise the banner against us.

that was a bold move and I hope the wings remember that.

Serve them right for choosing the night to honor Chris Chelios too, and for their fans to boo him and not respect the man he was when he played for them. Ignorant fanbase established 2008....

Well, the Hawks fate is in the Wings' hands. If the Wings win both then surely it puts Dallas and Calgary in position to be able to take it, if they can actually win their games. Dallas plays Colorado twice, both very winnable games, then Minny. Calgary has one against Edmonton and a toughie against Vancouver.

That's a joke, right? Chicago didn't choose to raise their banner against us, that's just how the schedule turned out.

Scheduling caused that yes, but I believe the Chris Chelios honor night was well.... i'm not sure. Possibly because he was going to be there anyways that night but jesus, I felt so bad for him with the crowd of idiots in the United Center.
