The more I watch all these games and other games around the league, the more I am mad that we chose Franzen instead of Hossa. Hossa is MUCH better on the D side, and he seems to be trying every single game I watch for the Hawks. Perhaps more significantly is the fact that Hossa has only played in 65 games and has 26 goals, meanwhile Franzen has played 76 games and has 28 goals. Also, Franzen plays lazy half the time, while Hossa is a factor even when he isn't scoring, though it is still impressive for him to almsot have 30 goals. I am just very disappointed with Franzen and think we should heave kept Hossa. Regardless, babs better take Fraznen off of Datsyuk's line.

...but....but Franzen is the next Fedorov.... :ninja:

I agree, Hossa should've been the choice. We'll see what happens in the playoffs, because everyone here says he is gonna light it up! Maybe that is what he is waiting on. Who cares about giving the fans their money's worth in the regular season. Why don't they just play the regular season without any fans in the arena, because who cares that they spents $500 for tix, parking, concessions, etc... to go see their team play 100% and give them their money's worth. I now have two players I cannot stand, Hudler and Franzen. As far as I am concerned if they play their last game in a Wings jersey this season, I couldn't be happier.

But seriously this game was a turning point.

Whew! and I thought I was the only one that saw it! That switch flipped right about 9 minutes into the first period.

I still hope for a better showing come playoffs, if they're gonna flip it, they better start this week!

Hossa played hardball with Holland and Kenny went with his backup. It's too bad (for us) Hossa did not start out with what he eventually signed with the Hawks, as he would have been a Wing.

I think Franzen still could wow us in the playoffs, so I'm really not crying too hard over it.

I know everyone is saying they want hossa.... But we would have had to sign him for Atleast a Million more then franzen makes plus were talking bout the same Hossa that had goals in all of what 3 games in our 2009 playoff run? I know franzen looks bad and is very streaky but as long as he hits the hot part of his streak during the playoffs Ill take Franzen over hossa plus another player for a million...

Crash

I agree with this. I also want to say that it is easy to look in hindsight and say we should have never made that decision. At the time when Franzen was signed, it was a great decision. I would have much rather taken Franzen and another player like a Drew Miller than take Hossa.

It's not like Hossa gave up on Detroit when it really mattered.

He was a joke in the 2009 playoffs. And absolute joke.

Either way, were people saying this earlier in teh season? Nope. As soon as he stops scoring it is the end of the world and Hossa is such a great bargain in comparison.

People seem to forget Franzen had 18 points in 12 games last playoffs. But that's okay, Hossa's 3 goals were what we needed most that year.

OK, a question. (Which probably was already been answered but I wouldn't know where to look.) IF Dallas wins tonight and against Minnesota Sunday, what happens with the Hawks? Especially if we lose to them again in Chicago on Sunday?

THANKS.

The Hawks have to lose in regulation Sunday and the Stars have to win in Regulation or Overtime to clinch.

Pavel has looked great every single game this season EXCEPT for the games he played with Franzen. It is no coincidence that Pavs is not as effective when he is with Franzen... I dunno what it is with Franzen, but I no longer want him wasting the time of our top line. I like the idea of Modano with Pavs, but whatever Babs does as long as he takes Franzen off that line... put Franzen with Fil they usually mesh well.

Yeah, that and the refs helping them get in.

I 100% firmly believe there is manipulation in the NHL whether it be from the admin or from the refs. It's not called objectively at all. And this sort of thing honestly makes me not want to watch hockey anymore.

I hate when people gang up on players unless they really deserve it (Lebda) but Franzen has been really frustrating this season. People shouldn't pretend that the Hossa/Franzen thing was really a choice. Franzen has been clutch for us every time we needed him, and has been clearly better than Hossa up until around December or whenever Hossa really started playing well.

Wings played as sleepy as they did against the Blues surprised the score wasn't worse. It is hard to fabricate the mindset the Hawks had as this was a must win for them or very close to it. It would be nice to win but we should be focusing on the playoffs right now and nothing else. If we just get through to them with no injuries we will be fine, hopefully Lids and Datsyuk don't play sunday.

GO WINGS!

No show Hossa cost the Wings a Stanley Cup in 2009. Easy to rethink now, but Franzen is not the reason the Wings are in a slump, and Hossa is not the reason the Hawks won a Cup....hindsight.

Team just doesn't look good - hasn't really had that special feel all season. On the upside, even with a less than stellar year, we are still one of the better teams in the NHL. Just so happens under Bettboy's dream - there are no truly great teams, just a bunch of mediocre ones...

Go Wing regardless - have cheered for them under much more dire circumstances - not goint to stop now.

Me either. I don't care who we play right now as long as it's not the Hawks in the first round. They have our number right now. Anyone but them but lately it doesn't seem to matter who we play against in the playoffs since our team looks awful...

This is what I remember of Hossa and always will. This topic of discussion is ridiculous, Franzen signed here for 1,320,455 per annual caphit UNDER Hossa. Better not see you guys around here cheering when Franzen scores 1.5 average (at least) again this year...

assuming the wings mail it in for the last game and chicago wins, and if one of either Nashville (at Blues) or Phoenix (at Sharks) loses in regulation tomorrow, the wings will play the Hawks in round 1.

What are the chances we play the Hawks in the first round?

Everyone here seems convinced the Hawks will play Vancouver in the first round.

If Nashville and PHX both get at least a point in their final game AND CHI gets at least one point against us AND LAK lose in regulation AND ANA lose in regualtion, we'd play Chicago. So to recap:

Must get at least a point:

NSH

PHX

CHI

Must lose in regulation:

ANA

LAK

OR

Must get a point:

NSH

PHX

Must Win:

Chi

Must not win:

ANA

LAK

IF NSH, PHX lose in regulation and LAK, ANA do not get more than just one point in their final game, Chicago can clinch the 4th seed!

If Dallas wins in regulation and Chicago loses in regulation, Dallas clinches the 8th seed since both teams will be tied in points and ROW (regulation/overtime wins), but Dallas would have won the season series. Crazy crazy stuff.

I think we've already mailed it in for Sunday.

I expect Phoenix to lose to the Sharks. However, I think you forgot about Anaheim. Aren't they currently above Chicago in tiebreakers?

that won't happen because anaheim plays at LA saturday. because of that, chicago can only go as high as 5th
