Mors 201 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 Go ahead and throw me in there with LeftWinger...I'd much rather have Modano and his experience in the lineup than Hudler, regardless of the requisite statistical analysis explaining why Hudler wasn't a waste of a contract all season long. YES! Hudler proves me wrong!

stormboy 47 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 lol @ hudler with a lazer and miller with an assist. won't be sad or surprised if drew sits for mike in game two, but this has to stick in the craw of everyone who was shocked at the modano scratch. and, yes, i was one of those ("surely miller can't be better than modano," i said; and maybe he wasn't. but he didn't f*** up and we won, so, it is what it is, as they say). dteowner 20 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 It's pretty much a given the Mo will play in game 2, so really, who sits (and that's assuming Z isn't back)? Miller played pretty darn well last night. Hard to see his reward being time in the press box. Hudler scored. He's safe. Eaves had some really nice forecheck pressure, but didn't light the world on fire. Maybe. Abby looked like he belonged on the 2nd line. No way he's sitting. Draper looked fast last night, played very well on the PK, and did well on draws. Probably too good to sit. Mo will get a chance to prove he's got the fire under his butt that Babs put there, so I'm guessing Eaves gets a game off.
St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) My guess is Eaves is sitting this next one out. Eaves, Miller and Modano are all fair game for rotation. But when Hank comes back I don't know, I guess Babs will probably make a decesion game to game maybe? I like seeing Abby on the second line but obviously when Hank comes back that isn't going to last... We'll need it if we go deep in the playoffs. Plus is gives us something to talk about to keep our mind off the wait until next game. Damn, it's so easy to love these Wings. While the opinion is always welcomed around here there is absolutely no way that Eaves is a rotational part of this team. Miller and Modano are the ones that can be rotated but Eaves is quite irreplaceable for his PK time and 4th line contributions. Just watch the guy play, you can't sit players like that this time of year. I say roll with what won the last game again.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 15, 2011 I don't see Eaves being sat. In fact, in the playoffs you don't change your lineup after a near perfect game like Game 1. I'll actually be mad if they put Modano in at this point.
Nyquistfan14 489 Report post Posted April 15, 2011 For game 1 the article said that the healthy scratch debate was between Mo and Huds. There is no way Huds should be a healthy scratch. IMO he and Flip are the x factors in how far the wings go in the playoffs

I like seeing Abby on the second line but obviously when Hank comes back that isn't going to last... If the Wings are still playing the Coyotes (or if they move on to another team like them), I would like to see the Abby line stay as the third line when Z comes back. That line is the only one the Wings have that can physically wear down the opponent and produce offensively (if they get it going again. While the Helm line also hits and forechecks hard, they don't get as much time and their hitting just isn't as ferocious.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted April 15, 2011 I don't even see how it's a debate. Modano should have to wait until someone has a s***ty game before he sees the ice. Where's the incentive if you could be sat regardless?
brett 1,029 Report post Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) Sorry Mo youre the odd man out. I cant see him taking draper, eaves or miller out of the line up cause of the PK. I think if MO was in game 1 we would have lost cause of the phenomenal PK from those guys. Maybe Huds, but you have to wait til he has a bad game Edited April 15, 2011 by brett

While Miller has been awesome on the PK, that line is begging for someone with more offense to make it a scoring threat.

Ya, but will the gain of Modano's offense be enough to make up for the loss of Miller's defense and hard work? Not too sure about that. 1 HankthaTank reacted to this

It won't. A line of Modano-Filppula-Hudler has got to be one of the softest lines ever. At least Miller is willing to do the dirty work in front of the net. I'm trying to give Mo the benefit of the doubt a little, but I don't think he will ever be able to bring what this team expects from the bottom 6. It's all about hustle, and determination and hitting and being defensively aware and cycling and grinding. If the bottom 6 was about floating around looking for a scoring chance, Mo would be my first choice.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 Considering how terrible the reffing is in the playoffs, there's no way Babcock sacrifices the PK just to placate Modano's ego.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 Keep Modano out. Miller hustles and is valuable on the PK while Draper had some huge faceoff wins in game one and plays really well with Helm and Eaves. As others have stated, Miller is a much better fit on the third line than Modano with their respective skill sets.

As we've often seen from pretty anybody anybody who has spent time in the top six not named Datsyuk, Zetterberg or Cleary. I hate to spark a bunch of "You don't know hockey" replies but is floating a part of being a scoring line player?

That was kind of a dick move.... lol I thought when he announced that a short while ago it was strange, kinda the opposite of Bert...Oh well with any luck luck he helps us win another title and wants to stay, then we tell him to FO
