Hatrick Dick

After winning the SEL championship, Dick said that this will be his last game played for Farjestad. Apparently he has grown up alot according to some Swedish posters I have talked to and plays a much more complete game. He is too good for the wings to just let slip away and apparently is amazing whenplaying at his top gear. Even if he isnt all that great defensively, I could see him being a Hudler type. Offensive specialist except Dick has a penchant for throwing some big hits and getting a little nasty.

The wings have apparently offered him a 2 year, 2 way contract worth 660,000.

http://hockey.expressen.se/elitserien/1.2403484/hjalten-sjogren-pa-***-till-columbus apparently this article says whats up?

I personally thought he was done with the wings but if he really has changed and is willing to do some time in the minors, he could be a big, offensive producer in a few years. He is now listed at 6'3 as well.

EDIT: He had 30 points in 47 games this year to go with 126 pims.. not bad production. Playoffs 14 games, 4g, 6a, (2 gwg), pretty good run on his way to the championship

I'm cheering for him. Mainly because he has a great nick name, but also he has a very high offensive ceiling and good size. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. Good to see him maturing at least.

I started this thread over on HF's Swedish board and a lot of people had good things to say about him now, if you would have asked the questions I did even a year ago I think people's opinions would be very different.

I would like a 6'3 guy with a mean streak on the team for sure, hopefully he will just do his time in GR. I could see him getting the first call up next season if he is playing well and making the team the next season

That's because he wants to play in the NHL, KHL, or Swiss elite league. Unless he really has matured and is willing to gut it out in the AHL for a month or five, he won't be in North America, which I give him a 1% of actually sticking it out in North America.

Plus it's easy to grow up a lot when you had the mentality of a spoiled 15 year old girl wanting a 10 million dollar super sweet 16 and being upset when you get a platnium Lamborghini instead of a solid gold one. His growing up a lot could still be extremely immature, but only he knows and is willing to say all the right things to try to play in the NHL, right now.

Apparently he has said he is willing to play in the AHL actually. I dont have a link but read it somewhere on HF or something.

He hasnt really had any problems for 2 years or so, I believe he has grown up for sure, but im not sure about whether he will actually play with the griffins.

A 6'3 dangler with a mean streak does have me hoping he sticks it out though

He didn't really say specifically that he's willing to play in the AHL. More like, he has nothing against it. Yet, when asked if he doesn't make the NHL, he said he hopes for an offer from the KHL or Swiss league.

I could have sworn he said it was NHL or bust (KHL, Swiss). Maybe I am misremembering?

I dont think it was NHL or bust, Im almost positive he said he would do time in the A. How much time is the real question though.

Its hard to know when all the articles are in Swedish, for me its all pretty much hearsay

No pun intended with the thread title. :hehe:

I'm all for another Lilja on the team.

HTD is a forward... and skilled... and not a team player.

Lilja was the opposite. Only thing in common are that they are big and Swedish.

I don't know the guy and haven't read enough to really judge him, but I know a spoiled athlete rarely changes. He probably is just saying the right things, but we would always have to worry about him holding out to go over to the KHL or SEL. When big money is involved, egos don't just disappear.

EDIT: How about Holland just bring Lilja back next year?

At the end of the day I hope he plays for GR and understands that he will have to stay there longer than he would like.

He really should because he'll be able to play with some good talented players like Tatar, Smith, Andersson, Lashoff, Nyquist, Callahan, Ferraro, etc. It's not all lesser crowds, crappy bus rides and "low" pay.

Lilja is a DMan. HTD is a power forward.

A motivated, selfless HTD is nearly unstoppable. But I don't think we'd ever see that. If we can, bring him over.

From what Ive read this season he has stopped being a selfish player compared to years past anyways.

Apaarently he takes some dumb penalties in scrums and stuff but in the SEL a face wash can get you a penalty so its hard to say just how dumb his penalties really are.

How bad were his character issues actually? He was held off the Junior team because of an underage drinking incident (Sheahan and Smith will get along great with him) and he left grand rapids for Sweden. Other than that has there been anything?
