unsaddleddonald 357 Report post Posted May 3, 2011 I was just wondering if you guys felt that Todd Mclellan's intimate knowledge of our offensive and defensive systems is effecting how the series last year and the series this year are being played out. In my opinion, the effect is tangible. It seems that every time we get into the zone with some decent speed we either 1.) get sent back out of the zone rather quickly or 2.) if we do set up, they are doing an excellent job of keeping us to the outside, the middle of the offensive zone is coming at a premium and we cannot seem to get there. And on the other side, we are giving up a decent number of odd man breaks whether its coming from d-man pinching and getting caught or something else. I can only really think of one odd man break besides Helmer's breakaway that we've had and it was in Game 1 when Abby didn't do much with it. So what do you guys think, does what Mclellan know hurting us or not?

rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted May 3, 2011 While it's not a good thing with McLellan's knowledge, theoretically it shouldn't matter what he knows. The Wings need to work harder and win more battles for the puck. Will > Knowledge.

Grypho 195 Report post Posted May 3, 2011 And people forget, Babcock would have intimate knowledge of McClellan's strategy as well. That may not be exactly the case. As an assistant coach, McClellan's job was to implemented Babcock's strategies. Babcock would only have prior intimate knowledge of McClellan's strategies to the extent that he gave McClellan free reign, and we don't know how much that was. Even then it wouldn't have been total, because McClellan was never really in charge. Once McClellan was given his own team, anything he might have wanted to differently with the Wings, but could not, he was free to do with the Sharks.
