mjlegend 155 Report post Posted May 4, 2011 The only thing I would change is the over ripen thing for prospects. You needs guys to have speed, passion, and something to prove now a days. Having a guy like Bert at this point in his career being the teams second liner is just wrong. Those type of players are past their prime, lost the fire to compete, and are just a shadow of what they use to be. Sure they are cheap for the salary cap but they lost that edge to win a cup. Taking a chance on a rookie and give him NHL experience while we still have a strong core should start happening more often. Mursak should be getting some valuable NHL playoff experience right now and helping out. But he is watching while behind the depth charts of Miller, Mo, and Draper (Draper should be playing, he is still very competitive). Mursak (one point in 19 games) over Burt (45 points) for second line in the playoffs? Gotcha.
achildr1 255 Report post Posted May 4, 2011 As for Draper and Osgood leaving, good luck with that. Draper, at very least, has played 5 years younger than his age and works as hard as anyone on the team. Osgood, as much as I want him to hang em up, apparently isn't going to out without a fight. Holland doesn't push these guys out unless they've proved they're done (Maltby and McCarty), although thats what I believe Osgood's done. At this point Draper brings more in leadership, effort, and even the odd goals than Miller or Modano and I think Emmerton may even be let go before Kenny pushes Drapes out. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted May 4, 2011 Mursak, Laich, Upshall, Hamrlik. No trades needed and we keep all our assets. Trading Filppula is stupid, he's consistently one of our better playoff performers for years. Guys like Holmstrom and Draper are expendable because we have guys who can fill their void for millions and millions less. Bogosian isn't the best idea. Our super late draft pick Ericsson has performed as well as he has and is a much better penalty killer and I hate Ericsson. 1 Aussie_Wing reacted to this

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted May 4, 2011 This is my outlook on next season. Franzen/Datsyuk/Holmstrom Cleary/Zetterberg/Bertuzzi Grinder/Helm/Eaves Enforcer/Mursak/Enforcer Lidstrom/Rafalski Kronwall/Stuart Big D-man/Enforcer We would not even get close to making the playoffs with that line-up. Not enough goals and no defense. The only thing I agree with is an enforcer on the fourth line and a physical (doesn't have to be big) 5th/6th/7th defenseman. dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Mursak (one point in 19 games) over Burt (45 points) for second line in the playoffs? Gotcha. So when is the regular season playoffs? I'm not sure if you are watching but Bert looks like ass out there. I would rather have a guy out there with the wheels and energy that is comparable to Helm and Draper than have a useless second liner like Bert out there. Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 Blow it up. I could care less if there was only Helm and Pavel returning next year. Everyone was anti-clutch. It seemed like they all took turns stepping up to ruin our chances. Taking horrible penalties, making horrible turnovers, playing suspect defense, letting pucks go by, no rebound control, missing golden chances. The Wings that won last time played the best when it meant the most, these Wings play the worst when they are in control. ANTI CLUTCH! That is the only way you lose to Joe Thorton and Marleau, the kings of this phenomenon. It is my feeling that any change would be a good one now, and I would start by getting rid of every goat in the series. Declare to the world the Red Wings will not stand for that sloppy s***. evilmrt 636 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 Ah yeah, some light house cleaning will be required. Does Holland see things like that though? Two back-to-back failures against the Sharks...how obvious does it need to be what this team needs changed?
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 My first action would be clear to me. Bye McCrimmon. Hi Atlanta? Yes, I would like to offer you Hudler, Bertuzzi, and Ericson plus our draft pick for Bogo. Kthxbi. Then I would sign Weber to a one year offer, which Nashville would match. Then I would listen to any offer for anyone over the age of 30 whose name isn't Pavel Datsyuk.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 It's becoming more apparent each passing day that Filppula won't be much more than he is now, a floater. Get rid of him while he still has some trade value. Same can be said for Hudler. Looked atrocious to start the year off, then went on a tear, now he's invisible out there again. Just another "Leino". Quit signing washed up guys at the end of their careers. Let Salei go after we get eliminated. Let Modano go. Let Ericsson go. Bring some younger, hungrier guys into the mix. Less pretty, and a little more gritty. As much as I like Draper, we've got to get younger. Sign him to a 2-way deal so he can mentor the guys in Grand Rapids and fill in when need be. 1 redwingfan19 reacted to this
Kass 7 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 I don't even know where to start. Our defense, with the exception of Lids, is either mediocre (Stuart) or godawful (everyone else). Our second and third lines are both streaky as hell and tend to be off way more than they're on (especially in the playoffs). Jimmy's a solid goalie, but he'll never win us games single-handedly and that's something you need if you want to win. San Jose rolls three scoring lines that ACTUALLY SCORE every night. We roll one. And that has to change.
Liberation 11 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Boyd Gordon... So he can teach Red Wings centers how to win face offs. Also, last I checked, Stuarts job has been the PK and furthermore, blocking shots, which the Red Wings and him have been awful at. wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 The Red Wings definitely need some changes. Here we go.. Assuming the cap goes up $4 million and Lidstrom retires. 1. Trade Hudler. 2. Sign Brooks Laich, Raffi Torres, Kevin Bieksa, and James Wisniewski. We would add two forwards that would make us bigger, stronger, and tougher to compliment and maybe even protect our euros. We would also add two solid defenseman that can actually block a shot. Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 Turn off NHL '11 and get with reality. The Wings aren't going to magically get a top-three draft pick this year, they're not going to trade Flip for Stamkos/Bogosian/other blue chip talent. It's also not a guarantee that every UFA you want will sign with the Wings if they make the offer. The odds are actually quite low. The most we should expect to see is a couple of small trades or UFA acquisitions, and perhaps a shuffle of the assistant coaches. If Lidstrom retires, things will get more interesting. We will be treated to many more years of Franzen's inconsistent effort, and probably several more years of Filppula not making a difference when it counts. Just deal with it. Can't win the cup every year, and especially not when the team's roster plays like it only has four good players and a boatload of half-assed scrubs.
