The best team in the NHL wins the Stanley Cup. Vancouver has shown some huge resilience by getting by Chicago. IMHO, if they win the cup, its well deserved.

I think the Nucks are the best team but forget resiliency. They only got by Chicago by blowing a 3 game lead then winning game 7 in OT. They got lucky against Chicago. They could easily have been out in the first round. Then they drew the weakest team left in Nashville and followed that up with a beat-up worn out Sharks team.

Much of winning the cup is who you play and when and frankly after Chicago they drew 2 easy oponents.

Agreed. Over on hfboards the Sharks fans as a group are among the friendliest and most civil.

Lol @ judging a fanbase based on kids on internet forums.

Go to a Wings/Sharks game next season Cali wearing your Wings jersey and see how "friendly" the sharks fans really are. Oh, and bring some of your crew, as those "friendly" folks will try to physically attack you as well as throw beers and s*** at you for wearing your Wings jersey there and cheering for your team.

While I haven't been to every arena, in the ones I have, I have never experienced such assholes as those sharks "fans". I'm just glad I went there somewhat recently, now that I'm older, calmer, and more pacifistic, as if that s*** had happened to me 10 years ago, I wouldn't have had the strength to try to brush it off, and there probably would have been one guy in prison (me) and several severely injured sharks "fans".

Maybe it was a fluke or something, but that experience is burned in my mind and my opinion of those fans is cemented.

Thats just one guys experience though, yours may vary...

It has. And it's not just from "kids on internet forums."

I've not been to a game in San Jose, but I have been around several sharks fans at Kings games. Maybe it's because they were the ones in enemy territory, but they were very friendly and took part in a good natured friendly rivalry. Because hockey isn't popular in southern california and there's thousands of people that grew up elsewhere, Kings games in LA can often seem like a home game for whoever they're playing that night. Canucks fans were by far the most disrespectful and obnoxious, even moreso than Flyers fans. And that's really saying something. Though honestly I think Flyers fans save their best stuff for home games.

I've been to a handful of games at the HP Pavilion (only once at the Cow Palace but don't remember it much as I had other things on my mind at that time), both when the Sharks were playing the Red Wings, and when the Sharks were playing other teams -- in my Red Wings attire. I've been to heavy metal concerts at the HP Pavilion -- ALSO wearing Red Wings attire purposely rubbing it in their faces in years our team won the Cup or even eliminated the Sharks.

I've also worked in San Jose, Santa Clara, Mountain View (that's where I got this username), Redwood City, San Francisco, and Millbrae. In my 18 years of being a Red Wings fan I can count how many times on one hand anyone said s*** to me anywhere in public that wasn't related to a game. Indeed it was "Detroit Sucks", and they were rednecks that likely didn't even care about hockey.

One of my favourite places to go, when I wasn't at the HP, was the Tied House Brewery just off the 87 a few blocks away from the HP. I don't know if it's around or not anymore (I heard it shut down), but I wore Red Wings gear there too, and I happily drank their brewed wheat beer with the locals there.. guess what? No beer or any other s*** thrown at me, no fights.

Edit: Whenever I would go out to public places, most commonly Safeway, Costco, Valley Fair, or Great Mall (Dave & Busters) wearing Red Wings attire, it was more common to run into another Red Wings fan spotting me and start yapping about the team excitedly.

My experiences directly contradict yours, and even more interesting, I wouldn't go to a hockey game or anywhere in San Jose with your attitude -- it's asking for a fight. However, you can say anything you like behind a computer on the internet, which is how you get away with the notion of taking a handful of Sharks fans to the hospital like you're a Marvel superhero or some embellished crap. Give it a rest and enjoy some fricken hockey. Sharks fans are tame.

I was only able to catch from the beginning of the 3rd period on. Great hockey as the refs were not calling anything so there was no reason for either team to dive. :yowza:

Congrats to the Nucks and too bad for the Sharks. We all know what it feels like to lose because of a fluke bounce.

Go Stevies!

Huh?

What attitude? I was there with absolutely no negative attitude at all and was there to simply enjoy a hockey game. Even when beer was thrown at me, I was physically assaulted and harrased, I had no attitude, maintained my cool, and shrugged it off and simply left.

If that is asking for a fight, then you just confimed my experience and how common it likely is, and that San Jose fans are complete assholes and view a rival fan simply coming to their arena to watch a game as "asking for a fight".

I've had beer dumped on me at the United Center, I've gotten called every foul word for a woman you can possibly think of and then some.....but that doesn't mean I don't think people should watch Wings/Hawks games there, nor does that mean I think all Hawks fans are classless punks. There are assholes EVERYWHERE. Even we have them.

What the hell kind of dipstick decides to broadbrush an entire group of people just because SOME rode his ass a little? Grow up man, it's hockey. If I'm a 5'2 female and I can take it, so can you.

I'm sorry, did I miss the:

Your attitude is asking for a fight.

And I don't know how I would confirm anything, because I got along with Sharks fans, even with constantly rubbing my team in their faces, being a Red Wings fan in the Bay Area. Obviously you're embellishing a fanbase and suggesting you can take down a good number of Sharks fans in a fight. You act like you confirmed something with my post (I wonder what?) when I was even suggesting that the attitude would cause a fight, strangely, now -I- am thrown into your messy nonsensical rant about Sharks fans?

You seriously need a reality check.

Your attitude is asking for a fight.

Dude, I don't even know how to respond to you.

No offense, but are you high on crack right now? Maybe come back and post when you sober up and make some sense. Either that or your reading comprehesion is severely lacking.

I never had any attitude.

I never fought anyone, nor did I wish to. I simply said, had this happened 10 years ago, I would have after being assualted. But now that I am older, I walked away instead.

How that translates to you accusing me of having an attitude at the game and bringing it on myself is beyond me. I was just relaying my one and only experience there. I made it VERY clear it could have been a fluke, and also made it VERY clear that that was just MY experience.

I honestly don't know why you are so butthurt over me posting my experience, or the fact that you, even after me explaining that I had no attitude and was simply there as a fan watching a game, keep claiming I deserved to get assaulted and brought it on myself, when that was definitely NOT the case.

If I was "asking for a fight" (apparantly by simply being there in your mind) then why didn't I stay around to fight? Why did Imaintain my cool and leave instead of fighting?

Seriously....put the crack pipe down.

I also think its funny I get negged by multiple people simply for posting my experience as it happened. I guess only lovey dovey "the sharks fans are teh bestest evar, and I looove them" are the only posts people here want to see. What, is this site filled with nothing but tree huggin hippies or something? f*** the Sharks and f*** their fans too. So go ahead and neg my now babies! :hehe:

Yea, and the Wings were totally geeked about the prospect of playing San Jose, Nashville, or Chicago.

I wouldn't say each of those teams were easy as much as Vancouver was just that good. When they lose Manny and can still put 4 lines that are dangerous on the ice, thats a testament to how good they are.

You are right on one thing though. Winning the cup does take a variety of things to fall in place. You have to be healthy, be deep, have some luck, and have advantageous matchups. The Canucks have had all four of those things this postseason.

Yeah It hit the stanchion, and came right back to him on the blue line. It was a crazy, crazy bounce, but that is how hockey goes.

I know weird things happen but this is the first time I can think of that the Canucks attack / Sharks defense zone has 12 players skating in it and 11 of them don't know where the puck is while it's still in play, in such a clutch moment like an overtime in a playoff elimination game.

Bieksa really had a gift given to him. Not only was he lucky but he was an opportunist. Imagine if he missed that shot.

The hockey gods were looking upon the Canucks last night that's for sure.

It's time to gut the Sharks. Seriously San Jose, enough is enough, Thornton and Marleau should be gone.

Edit: San Jose with their size should have walked all over Vancouver.

For as much as I'd love to give Vancouver credit, I can barely stomach the fact that our Wings were ousted twice by those heartless, gutless Sharks. Sorry Kenny, but this team needs changes if you want to win.

Yeah they were all looking to the netting since they thought it bounced up there.

Honestly I'd say Heatley first if they can get anyone to take on that contract. Then probably Marleau, then Thornton. Joe seems to have grown a pair this season (minus the diving) and could be great if the chemistry of the team changed around him.

You just shouldn't spend that much money on three guys who are "streaky" in the playoffs.

I think they've also made a mistake committing themselves for a long time to a goalie who has the same problem. He was awful against the Kings, great against the Wings, and good against Vancouver.

So maybe in 2015 the Sharks can do the serious retooling they need?

Careful, sleepwalker might construe that as abuse, and label you a Sharks fan. :)
