Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 What an offseason, but to be honest Holland has had it pretty easy the past couple years compared a lot of other GMs around the horn. Not this time, holy moly so it looks like we are shaping up like this (capgeek.com)... The job of an NHL GM isn't to GM for the hockey season, it's to manage for the current and future NHL seasons. So him having an "easy" time, shows that he has been extremely competent. If Rafalski didn't retire, he'd have another easy summer where we'd only have to replace a couple bottom six guys and a couple third pairing defensemen along with finding a back up goalie. 1 Uncle Danny reacted to this

xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 Brooks Laich ($2.400m) As much as I would love to have him on the team, there's no way the Caps let him get away especially at that price. He's a team leader and a good playoff performer.
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted May 26, 2011 Right now the team should look something like this for next season... Forwards: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Cleary, Filppula, Holmstrom, Hudler, Bertuzzi, Abdelkader, Helm, Eaves, Mursak, Miller, Emmerton Defensemen: Lidstrom, Kronwall, Stuart, UFA, Kindl, Smith, UFA Goalies: Howard, UFA I'd like to see Hudler gone but Kenny says the forward group is pretty much set. I'm guessing Ehrhoff will be signed to replace Rafalski. Ericsson should get big bucks from a team on July 1st given his age and upside. Personally, I don't see Ericsson getting much better than he is now. Smith should make the team if he has a decent camp. If Ericsson leaves then Smith will likely make the team. I can't see Kenny signing 3 UFA dmen. Salei will likely be replaced by a vet depth dman. In goal I could see Ty Conklin being signed once again to back up Howard. The big thing for me is to replace Hudler with a gritty winger who can score 15-20 goals and be more suited in the playoffs than Hudler is.
MGreenberg 105 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 As much as I would love to have him on the team, there's no way the Caps let him get away especially at that price. He's a team leader and a good playoff performer. If you look at the bottom it says that there is four million left in cap space which you could add to his salary. I just like seeing what the Wings COULD do with their cap even though I know it is only thoughts and likely won't happen.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 The Flyers will be signing Bryz, so that kind of money is going to force them to make moves and they love to do that. They also have been known for making perplexing ones. I just don't know if we have enough firepower to make a big move without touching the forward prospects that should be untouchable. Pulk, Tatar, Jarn, and Smith I feel will be the price for anyone important in any trade and I would say no every time.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 Some people have cited Washington for a trade looking at green... but what about Wideman? He is a righty and good on the PP. His salary is 4 million which would allow us to add to the rest of the team. Honestly he would bring more offense to the club then Defense, but perhaps you add Bieksa as well or a cheaper Defensive specialist to solve the D problem... I could see Washington liking Hudler as well.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 The Wings should really ought to give consideration to Kevin Bieksa. Another right handed shot which, after the retirement of Raffy, leaves them with Eaves as the only regular in the lineup that's right handed. He's had a great playoff as well. MGreenberg 105 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 If Vancouver doesn't re-sign Bieksa, that would be about as stupid as Chicago not keeping Niemi or Byfuglien but if they don't for some reason and the Wings get him that would be great.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 Carle for Hudler and a pick. I've said this before, but I shall state it yet once again. That's a good deal for us. It's a good deal for us, but that doesn't mean it's a good deal for Philly. They're already loaded on the wings and adding $2.8 of questionable salary situation doesn't really do anything good for them, even with a pick. If Carle is available they can get deals more ideally situated to their roster/cap situation.
Guest Heaten Report post Posted May 26, 2011 (edited) The Wings should really ought to give consideration to Kevin Bieksa. Another right handed shot which, after the retirement of Raffy, leaves them with Eaves as the only regular in the lineup that's right handed. He's had a great playoff as well. Holland doesn't overpay players, and while Bieska is having a good PO, he's not that impressive overall. There are equal options out there...and won't come as overpayment. Bieska will get severely overpaid this offseason. If Holland can get him for under $4 ($3.5-ish), then I say go for it, but I bet he gets offers over $5 mil yr. Same with Erhoff. Holland will probably find "lesser knowns" who will be fine. Edited May 26, 2011 by Heaten
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 So it doesn't look like Salei will be back next year. Adam Pardy, anyone? I wouldn't mind Ladislav Smid, either. I believe he's a UFA July 1st, could be mistaken.

Chicago not keeping Niemi wasn't stupid; he isn't even as good as Crawford. He wasn't better than Crawford last season either; the difference is that Crawford could be sent to the minors. I'm interested in what happens with Derek Meech. He was above Kyle Quincey on the depth chart their entire time together with the Wings, and Quincey managed to turn up as a decent top-four defenseman when he left. Meech played better than Brett Lebda, who signed a deal in Toronto after he was pushed out of Detroit's defense. So what is Meech's fate?
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 Rip on me all you want for slotting Zherdev in, but he has potential (4th overall pick 2003), size, and scoring ability. Datsyuk could be a good influence on him to try to get him a little better on the d end. Not to mention he is a right shot that we desperately need. Not sure why nobody has considered Gagne yet. Could do a one year deal similar to what tampa did and see if things work out and replace next season when better players are available. He definitely has scoring ability. Make a trade for Bogosian (using huds, prospect, picks) as bogosian is young right shot that we need on d, and has potential. Pitkanen for maybe a 2 year deal to see how it goes, and if something comes up next year when lids retires (aka weber only signs a one year deal this year) then we aren't stuck with pitkanen around too long after, and smith with be chomping at the bit to get into the regular lineup. I have to agree that we aren't getting any RFA's through offer sheets. Parise, Weber, Doughty won't happen. I want one soooo bad and i still have hope, but theres no point in counting on it. dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 All things set aside in terms of the Carter trade, this team would be soooooo dope. and 2 mill to spare. Might have to put Pitkanen in for Bogosian due to trade bait going towards Carter, but people were suggesting that philly would want to pick up cap space anyways (not sure how many 1sts and prospects it would take)... Look at all those players with right handed shots (Carter, Eaves, Asham, Wisniewski, Bogosian)! That bottom line has the potential to be a sick grind line imo. and helm has earned a role as 3rd line center. The top two lines are devastating. It sucks that homer's contract had to be on the books this season; coulda been 3 mil left over instead of 2, and have Tatar up. xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 Nikolai Zherdev ($2.000m) Simon Gagne ($5.250m) Joni Pitkanen ($4.000m) Zach Bogosian ($3.500m) Very interesting. I never considered Gagne. He would be an excellent fit for this team and would probably go for less than $5.2 mil. Maybe $3-4 mil, I'm thinking. Zherdev is an interesting idea. Lots of upside, good hard right handed shot. The only thing is he has a reputation as being lazy on defense and that won't fly with Babs. Pitkanen would be nice and would do better in Detroit than anywhere else. Bogosian though is a pipe dream. Especially now that he's going to a city that would freak out if their GM traded him away.
