Changes in the offseason

Hopefully Jarnkrok and Pulu and Sheahan will all be hitting their stride when Z and D are past their primes (3-4) years from now, but Filppula will be in full swing of his prime and we need those player, we can't rely on 22-24 year olds to carry the team.

Jay harrison just got re-upped for two more years with Carolina :(. 1.4mil over two years. i wish he would have hit the FA market so he could replace Ericsson and Salei at half their cost with twice their abilities!

I don't thin Flip is going to break 50pts a season, hes too hot/cold. So counting on him to pick up a lot of both of their slack is a bit out there.

Well, if he's peaked why isn't he good trade bait?

I'll bet you 10,000 Schrutebucks that he'll break 50 points sometime in the next three seasons.

The only way it happens is if he spends 70+ games on Dats' wing, if hes the dedicated second line center, no way he'll do it.

What's the ratio between Schrutebucks and Stanley Nickles, though?

It's the same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.

if you were to move fil (not saying we should), possibly in a package, who would you move him for?

I suggested moving Franzen a couple times and nobody liked the idea of that... Kenny says he's up for a trade if theres one to be had, i can't see anyone else really being moved.

I look at Franzen and while I think he is a big part of this team, I think trading him would help the team more because he is signed to a big long deal, is very injury prone, and is already 31. His recent regular season and playoff performance place his value high, but I expect him to have a drop off soon due to a combination of age and injury. His trade value, of course, would take an even worse hit. And his cap hit is not really much of a bargain unless he starts staying healthy; Franzen has played an average of 66 games per season in six season on the Wings.

This summer or possibly next summer is the time to deal him if he is going to be dealt. His trade value is probably as high as it's going to get. Dealing him to a team in need of a scoring forward could bring back return that might not be an equal player right now, but could be better in the future or could provide better overall results due to injury. Maybe a team looking for that core player to provide playoff scoring?

Franzen for Bogosian or Enstrom?

Franzen, Howard, and a 1st for Henrik Lundqvist?

How about...

Hudler and a 1st for Bogosian or Enstrom?

Hudler,Howard and a 2nd for Lundqvist

...because even Eva knows that Franzen has more trade value than Hudler.

I understand the knocks on Franzen, but why would we trade him to a team that needs playoff scoring when that's exactly what we need him for?

Also, and don't want to slight the guy, but I think he'll retire due to age or injury before his production doesn't meet his cap hit.

As for the trade options:

Enstrom. Sure, I'd take him. Bogo is still a big question mark for me.

Lundqvist. Hmmm. Didn't know the Rangers were looking to move him. Didn't know we were unhappy with Howard. Besides, neither Howard nor Franzen are marquee players... the kind that the Rags tend to drool over the prospect of overpaying.

My short list of UFA defensemen, not counting ours. I'd like Nick back of course, and let Ericsson and Salei walk. That leaves three spots.

I'd like two preferably RH shots that can play the PP, and at least one solid PKer who can block shots and hit. I'd want Kindl to at least have a shot at a regular spot in the lineup. For future considerations, I'd like to see deals that leave room to add Smith next year, while also keeping Kronwall and Stuart, and go after someone like Burns or Suter if Nick retires. Few, if any, of these guys would be interested in one year deals, but we could always look for a trade later.

Wisniewski and Bieksa would fill our needs perfectly, and we could fill the third spot with anyone. Might not fit the cap though, and I have doubts that Bieksa will make it to July 1st. I think Hejda would be a great addition too, and maybe better value than some of the more popular guys.

Anyways, figured some might like the stats for handy comparison. I can add other players to it, if requested.

Honestly, I want the BPA and I don't really care about his handedness. Yes it's helpful on the PP, but if you're smart, then it doesn't matter what hand your are and where you are on the ice.

I would love Hejda as the 5th DMan if he'd sign for his current 2mil or under.

Vancouver Sun

Sounds like Bieksa's basically a lock to be back in Vancouver. Ehrhoff maybe more likely to leave, but I wouldn't be surprised if they both stay.

I liked this though:

"I think everybody takes less to play here," Bieksa said. "It's such a great organization that you want to be here, so if you want to be here you have to take less, that's just the culture. It's like Detroit. If you want to win, you have to take less to be here. Again, without making my agent's job too tough, I'm optimistic."

Sounds exactly what Hossa said before he bolted. No player will ever say, "I'm a primmadonna and don't want to play here anymore"

It sounds like Bertuzzi in 2007 as well.
