James Wisniewski?

Wisniewski had a fantastic season with NYI and especially with MON. I believe he finished 7th in regular season scoring for defensemen league wide. Hes an offense threat from the blue line, aggressive on defense, and could be ready for an even better season next year.

Montreal has a plethora of defensemen who will all be healthy again next season, and rumor has it that the wiz may be going back to free agency this summer. With Lidstrom considering retirement, salei possibly not being resigned, and kindl not showing immediate promise, could the wiz be a good pick up? Hes a Detroit native, played for the plymouth michigan whalers (where he won numerous OHL awards) and he lived with and was mentored by former wing martin lapointe. He also doesn't mind dropping the gloves, which is something the wings may need.

To me he sounds like a no-brainer, and someone the wings should definitely pursue if he does go to FA. Obviously he doesn't compare to nick, nick is irreplaceable, but who else out there is a better choice than james right now?

I like it. Especially if we can also muscle Kaberle into our cap space as well. Plus Lids is leaning toward staying and I'm sure he'd be thrilled to have 5 other solid defensemen in Stuart, Wiz, Kaberle, Kronwall and Ericcson (if he also stays under cap space).

Also it doesn't look as though we will be able to keep both Miller and Eaves so that would give us more room. Though I would love Love LOVE to see Rafalski traded because he's WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for WAY TOO LITTLE LEFT IN THE TANK.

I'm hesitant about Kaberle, just because it seems he may have lost his touch. But I definitely agree with you on Raffi. I love him but hes simply not worth 6 mil. holland should trade him and kindl for someone who works for their paycheck. I like eaves, miller can be replaced by guys like mursak. And we should bring the wiz to replace salei.

I'd love to pick up the wiz. The only defender out there id like more is Weber but that's a pipe dream at this point. And I also would love to get rid of rafis contract. But I don't see a trade happening. What they could do tho is send him to the minors so he doesn't hit out cap and pray he gets claimed off waivers. But that would be the end of rafi in Detroit BC I think he'd get pissed lol

Wiz would be a sweet pick-up if we can work it into our cap. I think we're forgetting other potential FA's that may or may not be on the market this summer:

Christian Ehrhoff

Kevin Bieksa

Grant Clitsome (he may be an RFA, but would be a nice young pick-up)

Hopefully we have the power to pick up one of these guys, but I personally like Wiz the best.

Debate!

bieksa or ehrhoff seem like the next best options, just because i cant see how the nucks will be able to afford them both.

i believe pitkanen and mccabe may be on the market as well

SHHH! Losing your touch is nothing the Red Wing organization can't fix through coaching. Case n' Point: Danny Cleary.

I mean I like Miller and Eaves but they might be asking too much. I personally like each of their maturity levels more than Abs but we have already inked him for another season or two. Not to mention our farmboys (as you mentioned) of Teemu, Tomas Tatar, Jan Mursak and others. Not to mention we have yet to call up Riley Sheahan who I've watched play at ND and he is one fast, large man.

I mean with Wisniewski you're bringing in a solid first liner to pair with Lids. You would have Kronwall and Stuart as your 'Enforcer Line' at 2. And then you could put together young guns like Kaberle and Ericsson. You would have a very strong defensive rotation, at least I'd think so. Only thing is I think Kenny Holland needs to hire Chuck Liddell to teach Ericsson how to fight and use the body. tongue.gif

Also I do like Pitkanen. I just worry because we have a lot of point scorers and his minus numbers jump out at me. However that might just be because he is in Carolina where the defense is so porous that I feel bad for their goalie.

But again we'd need to see how much cap space we have. Though I agree with sending Rafalski to waivers because he has not shown to me that he is aging with the same grace as the fine wine that is Nicklas Lidstrom...

Brewer or Bieska sound better to me.

brewer and bieksa clearly have the size, but is that the only thing we want? the wiz lacks the size of the later two, but he makes up for that by playing like hes double his size. The guy can hit, fight, and is all around aggressive on defense. He might be able to teach big E a thing or two. Not to mention that E plays well with offensively capable defense partners like the wiz. That being said, the wiz prolly has more to offer then bieksa offensively and possibly more then brewer offensively as well. Who knows thou, he kind of had a break out season this year. So, to be big or not to be big?

Problem is, I doubt we'd be able to afford kaberle and wisniewski. So who would you rather have between the two of them? kaberle at around 4,250,000? or wisniewski at around 3,250,000?

Honestly, I think Wisniewski looks good on paper and it's a big plus the fact that he's young, but what worries me about him is he's primarily a goal scorer and that minus stat worries me a bit. Also youth can go either way and Wisniewski is a small guy.

Kaberle is a big body who also can generate points, plus he fits the Holland mold of being over the age of 30. However I do agree with you that this is his biggest downside because I would like to see some younger legs take over and become franchise faces.

I think I'd be with you number9 and pick Wisniewski because of the age factor. However, I think that if we already have Rafalski, Wisniewski just makes it overkill on offense and then I think that it would be imperative to sign a BIG N' STRONG physical defensive partner (or else splitting up Kronwall and Stuart giving one to Lids and one to Rafalski).

Yes sign him then try and deal Rafalski. Get rid of Salei.

Then sign Eric Brewer. This teams needs toughness in front of Howard.

The Sharks series showed it two years in a row.

So Mr. GM, how do you plan on trading a guy who has a NTC?

This has to be one of the most uninformed threads I have ever read

Kaberle is not that big and what's worse is he plays incredibly small. He is one of the softest defensemen in the league. His defense is very questionable. People in this thread are questioning if bringing in Wizniewski would be overkill because he's primarily an offensive defensemen; he brings a lot more to the table than Kaberle.

Personally I'd rather see Bieksa than either of these two but that's just my opinion. If the question is WIz or Kaberle it's an overwhelming vote for Wiz.

wisniewskis minus is from playing with the islanders. hes plus 4 with the canadiens during the regular season. so dont worry about the minus....its the islanders lol

Do you like Bieksa for his playoff heart or because he's an emotional leader? Also why would he ever leave Vancouver when they seem to have something working right now? *knock on wood* Vancouver has 13 mil in cap space next year, granted a lot of players are free agents next year but you'd think they'd lock up Bieksa pretty quickly?
