An agreement to sell the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers to a Winnipeg group which plans to relocate the franchise to the Manitoba capital is done.
Sources confirmed tonight that preparations are being made for an announcement Tuesday, confirming the sale and transfer of the Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns and operates the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League and the MTS Centre arena, which would become the NHL team’s new home.....

either detroit or columbus will move to the east, hopefully it will be the wings, would love to see them play toronto a bunch of times a year.
It GD better NOT be Columbus!!!! That would be just what the Evil Dr. Bettman would do to screw the Wings! This is OUR ONLY chance to move east, when is the next team gonna go west? Probably NEVER!

I'm of opinion that IF realignment is required, DET won't move to East, at least not in short term, maybe ever. West teams like DET in West.
Just sayin'

I read this as meaning that no deal is done.

For whatever it's worth.
I'm hopeful the deal is done.
As for which team might go out East, for the first season I think Winnipeg stays out East if this is confirmed, then perhaps Columbus moves out East.

Bettman: No deal to move Thrashers so far
The future of the Thrashers was a hot topic on NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's weekly radio show Thursday night.
Bettman said no deal has been made to move the Thrashers to Winnipeg -– and criticized reports of a possible move -- but he did not rule out relocation unless someone steps forward to own the team here.
"We get reports, speculation, that the team's gone. And there's no deal," Bettman said. "I can tell you that with certainty that there is no deal for this team to move. Am I predicting that there will never be or that there won't be at some point in time? No, I'm not saying there is or there isn't."

Minnesota will move to the Central.
Winnipeg will move to the Northwest.
As I've stated before, the Wings are the only team in the West that guarantees ratings. The league will not be benefited by this move, even though us fans would love it.

Moving Nashville to the East is as about as stupid as keeping Detroit in the West.... But since the NHL is run by idiots, I wouldn't be surprised if the moved The Kings to the East....

We wont move East. Bettman needs us Wings fans to increase the attendence numbers in Phoenix
Seriously though - I wouldn't hold my breath for our beloved Red Wings to move east...I'm certain a fair # of owners in the west rely/want the Red Wings, and our large fan base to attend games on a reg basis.
If we did move

Nashville will likely move to the Southeast.
Minnesota will move to the Central.
Winnipeg will move to the Northwest.
As I've stated before, the Wings are the only team in the West that guarantees ratings. The league will not be benefited by this move, even though us fans would love it.
isn't that what the Hawks are for now? According to most if not ALL sports outlets, Chicago is a bigger hockey town than Hockeytown...Hell they have Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, Seabrook, Campbell, Sharp...Those are the NHL household names now-a-days, they all show them on the NHL network, I never see Datsyuk or Zetterberg or Helm on a commercial, so Chicago must be the team of the Western Conference, right?
but...but...but...the Braves are America's Team!So this will be the second time hockey doesn't work in Atlanta.
That's what happens when you move to one of the worst sports towns in the US.
