Ken Holland: Open to trade to replace Rafalski

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

You've had some asinine posts lately, but this one is spot on, and thusly, you get a plus for summing up everything perfectly.

Thanks? I haven't been posting as much lately though... what have I posted that's been so "out in left field", or is this just a playful way of pointing out that I may overuse the word asinine on this board from time to time? Which in my defense, only seems fitting, as no other word can properly describe a lot of posts here...

On any note, I don't remember posting anything lately that could apply?

Minnesota is already in bad shape. They won't be giving up their #1 defenseman, who is both young and homegrown to boot, unless they're presented with an offer they can't logically refuse.

The only thing is, the Wild are in a bit of a salary cap crunch. Burns name has come up in trade rumors because they don't know if they can afford him after next year. They also struggled to score this year. Maybe they would take another Finn to go with Koivu in a trade for Burns? I think the biggest factor might be the fact the Wild wouldn't want to trade him within the conference. Which is one reason I could see the Caps and Wings making a trade including Green because of seperate conferences.

To LAK:

Hudler, Cory Emmerton, Travis Erdhardt

To DET:

Matt Greene, Kyle Clifford

Really like LA as a trading partner, wonder if kenny does...

No way Lombardi takes that after Cliffords playoff. But s***, that'd be wonderful.

Substitute Filpulla for Hudler then, makes no difference to me.

Both Filpulla and Hudler are spare cogs and make terrific trade bait. If Kenny is really open to trades, then these 2 make the most sense.

How exactly does trading away one of the few guys on the team who shows up every year in the playoffs (where the games are harder) make more sense? Filppula will NEVER be traded. He'll either run his contract out and be a UFA, or he'll continue to be re-signed.

Flip is actually the one logical, reasonable trade option the Wings have. He's successful enough, a good team guy, buys into systems. He can put up points, make plays, and a lot of teams lack that. The Wings don't. What the Wings lack is a bona-fide sniper or power forward who can score on a consistent basis. So honestly, Flip could get us a good return from a lot of teams in the league, I just don't know what ones specifically. Flip is also not integral to this team because he will never hit the potential we thought he would. He has great playoffs, but he's rarely clutch, and for what he brings we could probably get better through a trade for him if the situation was right.

Who is Holland going to trade then? Doubt he trades away all our prospects. Filpulla and Hudler are the only 2 guys who don't have NTC or long bloated contracts. Pretty sure Helm is untouchable, not sure on Abby although I hope he doesn't get traded. Franzen I could see but teams may shy away due to his recent injuries.

How is Abdelkader (24) untouchable, but Filppula (27) not?

Filppula is indeed clutch in the playoffs. Filppula had the 22nd highest PPG in the playoffs of all players who at least played 10 games, beating players like Stamkos, Mike Richards, Erat, Pavelski, Heatley, and the list goes on of guys who are made saviors or guys who double his salary. I'm not saying he is better than those players, but if you look at value and worth, Filppula comes out near the top of that list and you don't trade those players.

I see guys like Hudler, Abdelkader, Emmerton as guys who are more likely to be traded before Filppula's name is even on the tongue of Holland. I acknowledge Filppula has the most trade value on the team, but his worth to the team is substantially higher. This isn't NHL 11, so stop treating it like it is.

They've got $7.5m to work with, and Burns is their best defenseman and comes at a reasonable price. If they want to trade someone for cap relief, it won't be him.

I should add him and Bogo to my avatar, I'll never know how people don't understand the business and economic side of NHL management.

I don't like that Campbell is looking more and more like one of the only upper end d-men available trade wise, but eh, that seems to be the case.

Let's get some of the obvious ones out of the way:

Weber: Not happening

Doughty: Really not happening

Burns: Nope, not here either

Then a couple other popular ones

Enstrom: Definitely not happening

Bogosian: Not happening, and he's hardly proven himself to be upper echelon. Still, TNSE is going to hang onto all their best young pieces for a year to see where they're at internally

Some decent players in FA, but it'd be a miracle not to get outbid on some of the ones we want. I suspect we can come out with one good one if Holland is loose enough with the money.

So, aside from the less than ideal situation of Campbell, at best it seems we can wait for a guy like Liles, Leopold, Gilbert couple others like that to open up. Maybe Whitney if we're lucky, and I'd be asking for the definition of luck if that's the best trade asset available.

Well, at least we're not looking at having to trade too much out.

If it's Campbell or nothing, then it's nothing. Believe me. Holland will not hamstring this team for the next three years by picking up an outrageously priced defenseman who doesn't bring all that much to the table.

Someone's got the news about Atlanta and Winnipeg on his mind..

Haha

As has been said many times here and in the media - Nashville will probably mortgage the farm to match any offers and keep Weber.

As far as Nashville mortgaging the farm, the interviews I've seen said that while of course they want to keep Weber, they do have a different budget than most teams and so they realize there very well may be offers they can't match. We should be that offer.

Then, (not that it really matters), Nashville moves into the eastern conference to replace Atlantapeg, so Nashville doesn't have to get it rubbed in their faces at home 4 times a season plus playoffs.

Show me a link to ANY report stating that... Nashville can, and will, match a max contract if that's what it takes to keep him - they will not let the face of their franchise walk...

People need to let this pipe dream go... now if he signs a one year deal, then you people can let the hamster wheel in your heads start churning, because then he'd be a UFA next year and then all bets are off, but I HIGHLY doubt he will ever get to UFA, as Nash will probably lock him up on a 10 year deal or something extreme like that, at probably 8m+ and if any team offers higher... they'll match that too...

There is a <1% chance of Weber being a Wing next year and probably a <10% chance of him EVER being a Wing...

Couple of thoughts

1. Shea Weber WILL NOT come to Detroit. He will stay in Nashville because if they don't Nashville's franchise will be drastically changed forever I think and not in a good way.

2. IF the Wings trade for Brian Campbell Trade that means Kenny Boy should be fired. That would be an awful move. I know several Hawks fans that went Campbell gone and they even admitted that any GM stupid enough to trade for him needs to go.

3. I would LOVE to see Ken sign Bieksa or Wisnieski.

weber isn't coming here, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned much is the fact that the preds might not even be in nashville 5 or 10 years from now. would that affect his decision to sign a long term contract there now, or when/if he is a UFA? who knows.

same goes for suter. stability does count for something.

WIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

hes a detroit native, former plymouth whaler, was mentored by martin lapointe, and just had the best season of his career.

I would be alllll for Suter coming here. Make some necessary, reasonable moves here and there and bring Suter in.

i personally think that suter and weber are the best defense pairing out there right now. id keep those two together if i was nashville.

Souray is in the minors. Redden is in the minors. Finger is in the minors. Huet is in Switzerland. None of those four have a cap hit. Lebda's contract sucks, but it's small. The only ones comparable are those of Gomez and Drury.

Not terrible contracts, but Eric Staal at 8.25 is a nasty contract for a 70 point player, Heatley at 7.5, Vanek at 7.1 is not smart, Gomez, Brier, Horcoff, Finger are just a few of the over paying that cripple an organization.

Nonsense. Every other team will make what adjustments it must in order to improve our roster.

Predators' Trotz: We'll match any offer for Shea Weber

The moment Brian Rafalski retired, optimistic fans in Detroit were quick to suggest a solution. Sign Nashville defenseman Shea Weber to an offer sheet. The Predators captain is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1 if he can’t get a contract extension done before then.

Predators coach Barry Trotz has some advice to Detroit or anyone else thinking about an offer sheet for Weber.

Don’t bother.

“We’ll just match it,” Trotz told Sporting News. “I can tell you, whatever they offer, it’ll just get matched.”

one could argue that what else should we expect Trotz to say. another way to look at it is, teams can still get Weber to sign an offer sheet so that Nashville has to pay more for him than they planned to, perhaps losing the money to pay Suter or Rinne.

Some people have cited Washington for a trade looking at green... but what about Wideman? He is a righty and good on the PP. His salary is 4 million which would allow us to add to the rest of the team.

Honestly he would bring more offense to the club then Defense, but perhaps you add Bieksa as well or a cheaper Defensive specialist to solve the D problem...

I could see Washington liking Hudler as well.

Oh they would, but I still would offer him a maximum deal for one year and see what they do.

Somewhat... he was invisible for most of the Sharks series. He is trade able to get a more consistent 2nd liner that can take some of the load off of Z and D.
