The hit by Rome was, it seems, the wakeup call the Bruins needed. I wasn't impressed with how Boston was playing before the hit. So, Vancouver decided to play the game like classless goons and they lost by 7 goals. Nice work!

I do wonder how Luongo is going to shake off the 8 goals he let in for the next game. Vigneault might have made a serious error by not pulling him out much earlier. But then he couldn't make his team play with any kind of discipline so I'm expecting way too much.

I doubt Rome will get suspended. The league will say they could find no conclusive evidence that a hit took place.

Was Boston scoring those last three being up 4 wrong or unsportsmanlike?

Obviously IMO, no. of course not.

BUT.... Remember just a few short years ago, my fellow Wings fans....


If the Wings were up by that much that late and then had the "nerve" to score another 3 goals, they would have been shredded and lambasted in the press and all around the internet as being unsportsmanlike, arrogant, showboats by daring to score more goals after they were obviously going to win it.

s***...I remember Kenny Daniels even saying things in his commentary during those type of games about how the Wings should just step back and do the "sportsmanlike" and "right" thing by stepping back and just playing defense, so as not to embarrass the other team by scoring more goals.



Obviously the Bruins were emotional this game though, and rightly so, but the ending of the game just made me think back a few years and think of all the flack, hate and ridicule the Wings would have taken if they had "dared" score another 3 on a team that was down by 4 and was obviously going to lose the game already.

When you get a lead and start playing conservative and "try" to take it easy, that's when you get hurt or cheapshotted. Score until you can't score anymore.

I say the same thing when a baseketball team or baseball team is up an ungodly amount, just keep scoring, it's not your duty to let up.

Boston put way too much emotion into this game, they won but they will not have the same mentality going into next game, Nucks are still better they played horribly tonight and i think they take the next 2 and finish the Bruins off.

The Sedins are such talented players, but a friggin embarrassment with their constant diving in the Stanley Cup finals. They only help justify the crap people say about European players in the NHL.

First video is funny, it's hilarious to see a goalie check a player.

Second video is hilarious even though Lucic is such a huge ******.

Third video is nasty. Late hit by a 6th/7th DMan. Horton's arms sticking up after the hit makes me nauseous. I get that he was admiring his pass, but you don't expect to get hit up high that late after a pass. I hope Rome is done for the playoffs and a couple games to start next season if he even makes the squad. Plus, if you're someone who says "maybe a 2 minute interference could have been called", then you are admitting it was late. That's like saying, "well it could have been called boarding or it could have been called holding", you're admitting there was a penalty. Plus, correct me if I am wrong, any interference that results in an injury to a player is to be upgraded to a major and up to the ref to eject the player?

I agree that players should keep their heads up, but that hit was seriously late, and Horton makes his pass and is likely watching to make sure he stays onsides. Enough time has passed that you can see Horton taking quick strides starting to accelerate into the zone when he gets hit in the head.

Agreed should also be a suspension but all i am saying is be aware, its the SCF finals, hits are bigger and more frequent, adrenaline is pumping and players will not let up so always be aware and look out for yourself

Grapes blamed the hit on Lucic for taunting Rome, a player who doesn't make these kinds of hits and was too late on what could otherwise have been a completely legit hit. Loved all the finger biting taunts today, damned funny stuff even when Boston does it to Vancouver's players

It's funny as I was rooting for Vancouver until they opted to be a bunch of goons (see Anaheim or San Jose).   No matter what, that hit on Horton is late and he's the type of player that I love.  Goes out and plays hard, smile on the face, etc.  Rome is a bum and should be out for the rest of the Cup Finals.   This is the type of hit whereby someone is going to get killed.  :-( The size and speed of the players these days guarantees it.  

We have a series now and we all gotta love a goaltender that lays one on the Captain like Thomas did to Sedin.  Bravo Timmay.  :-P

My favorite play was the Thomas check. How often we see athletes make bad decisions. You could almost watch Thomas' thought process. He followed the puck and saw Sedin had it and it dawned on him, just bury him, it's just a legal check and solves the immediate problem.

Yeah that was pretty funny

But imo, if goalies are to be immune to checks, they shouldn't be allowed to throw hits either.

Yeah, I agree. That play really, really pissed me off, especially coming from Thomas. Thomas is the type of goalie that wonders way out of his crease, purposely looking for the slightest bit of contact to catch a call, which he has gotten several of during these playoffs....most of the time he's the guy initiating the contact.

I have that in the back of mind my mind and then you see him steam roll Sedin and it's completely legit? I know by the rules it's okay, but it pisses me off.

I should make it absolutely clear that I have no rooting interest in these Finals and I'm definately not a fan of the Sedins...I don't dislike them like some, I think they are great players, but I also think they dive too much.

I've always been a guy (I'm a non-goalie by the way) that has defended goalies being untouchable when they are out of the crease since they can get injured if they are knocked over more easily due to their equipment. HOWEVER, I think it must go both ways, if they can't be hit, they can't be hitting.

Thomas is in the blue when he throws the check. I say that's fair game since you can't harass the Goalie in the crease, he can keep you (and the puck) out of it.

Loved that hit by Thomas, was hilarious. But god, the game lost any type of class over time and especially Boston. I know Burrows is a biter and he should have been suspended but come on stop sticking fingers in peoples faces.

Also, why didn't Luongo just go sit on the bench if he wasn't going to try at all late in the game, really embarrassing for him..

One of the best games I've seen this playoffs. Hopefully Boston keeps this up in game 4. I think they still have a chance considering both games in Vancouver could have gone either way. Timmy has been playing lights out in all 3 games so they can continue to count on him, just gotta find their offense a bit more. They won't win if they don't tie it up in game 4 though.

Burrows not being suspended for the bite is just like Nathan Horton not being suspended after he threw a water bottle at fans after Game 6 of the East Finals. Stupid, trivial bulls*** should not have any impact on these big time playoff games.

I understand what you mean but letting Horton's harmless water squirting go is far more justifiable than letting Burrows off the hook for biting Bergeron, especially when you consider the NHL's laughable excuse of "There's no conclusive evidence". (And I was cheering for the Lightning of course like most Wings fans)

Well some of the Canuck fans in my neck of the woods have jumped right off the band wagon. This past game puts some of the Canuck fans back down to reality.
