With Bourque the GM actually traded him to the Avs instead of Philly because he thought the Avs had the best chance to win.The situations are worlds apart. Bourque was a non-contender and left with the graces of both management and fans to pursue a cup before his career ended. Lidstrom is on a contender and has multiple cups already.

I negged ya for negging folks that recognize a troll for what he is. I always thought you were supposed to dog trolls a little then ignore them.
I don't think that word means what you think it means.

from wiki:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted".

It's just flights of fancy, like "what would you do if you were invisible for one day?". There's s*** for hockey news in the summer so most people (myself included) look to find a hockey fix some how.
What does Tomas Holmstrom have to do with anything regarding this? Two completely different situations. You are talking about a guy who fights injuries years and years ago to a guy who is relatively healthy most of his career. The only thing that is similar between the two is they've played for the same team their entire career. Apples and oranges bigtime.Captain Obvious Answers to YOU are not that way to everyone else.
I thought Holmstrom was done 4 years ago and kept telling everyone that his roll on the team was diminishing. It was OBVIOUS to me that he was benefiting from playing on a line with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, but really not bringing much value to the team other than a good power play presence in front of the net. It took people on here 2 years to see this CAPTAIN OBVIOUS point and start saying things like "Holmstrom should be pp/4th line specialist". It's now acceptable to post something like that, but would get you banned if you did it in 2009. So let's just remember that this is a DISCUSSION FORUM. I have no problem with people not wanting to discuss things, but just putting up stupid little retorts to anything that YOU FEEL is an obvious answer really doesn't make this place any better. It's just annoying.
Spare me the discussion b.s. When you ask any obvious question that's going to get a no duh response from pretty much everybody, expect responses to not always be so pretty. To you and Dave, the world isn't a ray of sunshine all the time, don't expect everybody to agree with you or say nice thoughts all the time.

How is this thread topic any of those things? It's a general discussion Red Wings forum. The topic is about a Red Wing. Sure the premise is most likely not going to happen, but does that mean you really have to just stop everyone from discussing it?
I guess we should all go back to telling Eva how wrong he is about Hudler, because the first 50 pages just wasn't enough. I can't wait gang, let's strap in for a rousing good 3 months of that!

Well I think it was a valid question, although poorly posed;
Would you rather see Lidstrom retire or play for another team, and how would you feel about it?

Retire. The thought of him in any other hockey jersey other than Team Sweden and the All-Star game is nauseating.

Lidstrom resigns with the Lightning?
If Stevie brings Lids down to Tampa Bay to bolster their chances at a cup run next year, would you still like Lidstrom? Or would your feelings change?
So are we trading him to the Lightning so he resigns there? Or does he Sign there and then resign? I think he'll re-sign and then resign in Detroit. I must resign from this thread now as I feel if I re-sign anymore more replies, I may have to resign from this site.

Yzerman knows how much nick lidstrom means to the detroit red wings and how much the reds wings means to lidstrom,so i don't think Yzerman will try to take lidstrom away from the wings and bring him down to tampa bay.

Thank you, Dave. I guess I should have phrased it a differnent way. I just wanted to see if most people thought Lidstrom was a hero and would always be a hero no matter how he finished out his career. It seems like most players that win championships and spend the majority of their careers on a team get the blessings of their fans when they fade out with another team (Montana, Bourque, Gretzky, Clemens, etc.). I would hate to see Lidstrom wear another jersey for the last 2 or 3 years of his career, but he still would be one of my all time favorite Wings. To me, he's had the most impact on the team during the last 20 years. Yzerman gets a lot of the credit, but for me, it's Andersson, Bowman, and Lidstrom in that order.

I think it's flagrantly obvious what everybody's answer to that question will be.
