Buyouts of Drury and Wolski (which has already been speculated) would give them ample room to both sign all the people they want to keep, filler, and overpay for Richards.

Hudler for Wolski? At the very least it would improve our shootout record. Speaking of shootout specialists, isn't Jussi Jokinen a FA too, what about him as a top 6 scoring winger?

Actually neither, but I admit I haven't been reading all of the UFA threads, since half of them were cleverly veiled as blueadams line threads.

He would be worth signing IMO. I don't care if he is the highest paid player on the team he would be worth getting.

This is virtually the same thing as was said about him at the trade deadline in 2008. It was wrong then, and it's wrong now.

If any player should be traded it would be Filppula, it would be theoretically his spot Richards would take, Flip can be easily moved for prospects and picks without other teams trying to send back cap space, and if front loaded signing Richards would be very possible while still allowing Detroit space to pick up a middle tier Defenseman or two.

Probably won't happen, but they won't trade Hudler, sorry guys, his worth is low, teams would want send a player back that would take up cap space, so hes the worst player try to get cap relief from.

Lidstrom had just captained the Wings to the Cup, and won his third straight Norris trophy in 2008. And he took a pay cut of $150k per year over two years. Then in 2010, he took another cut of $1.25m. Even though he was a Norris finalist.

So now that he is the likely winner, you think he'll demand a huge raise?

What THN says is far less important than what Richards actually does. You do realize that those profiles are written and then left inert for years, right? TSN's profile of Cleary, for example, said for years that he lacked heart and motivation (which hadn't been true since the pre-lockout days).

Richards is a passing center.

My thoughts are similar...even though I believe it is possible to sign Richards, there are others out there that are just as good that Holland could throw money at. That is the reason I used Crosby and Ovechkin as a comparison, while Richards is one of the best in the league, there is no way he is better than Crosby (pre-concussion) and shouldn't (but just might) be making more money than him, or Ovechkin...

The only thing is Parise is a RFA, so I don not think Holland will be offering up a contract with the potential of losing multiple draft picks. He would be awesome here, but it's just something Holland does not do... I look at Jersey and wonder how they are gonna do it too. They only have $7M right now, and with the rumored increase, would have about $10.3ish. They need 5-6 more players including Parise...

If we did sign richards, we would have the ability to trade flip, he's a higher end player that could be used in a package deal for bogosian, but is a worse version of richards. hudler can be used to gain a pick or two in the draft and get us some cap space. I still would like to see kenny try and get jeff carter off philly just cause hes a right handed center that would fit great on our second line.

The Lightning trading away Vinny would be like the Wings trading away Nick. Lecavalier is going to retire as a Bolt and he still is having 50+ point seasons.

Hudler was .51 in P/G last year, which puts him at a similar scoring pace to many forwards making as much or more money with him. Even with his obvious deficiencies, some offensively needy team would take him in a trade (even it were for a relatively cheap price).

I personally think it's better to see what he does next year than take the cheap deal we'd probably get for him; the potential value of his offense is higher than what people would offer right now. The only way I'd take the cheap deal is if I had a need to clear the cap space (and only after I'm sure I had contracts locked up that would make this necessary, not on the hope that I might be able to grab some FA that may or may not sign here)

I agree with this 100%. I say keep him and see if things improve this season.

The thing is, and i know its 99.99999% fact that he wont be a Red Wing next year, BUT Holland does have enough cash next year to offer him a $9M contract.
