As I've been saying for the past couple years. Expanding to Nashville was a great move by the NHL. Great fanbase and very knowledgeable fans there.

The Ft. Myers one through me off. I expected Seattle would have been a lot higher since i higher NHL fans screaming that they should have an NHL team.

I think Seattle gets the Canadian CBC feed so it may have split the audience.

Hmm...Sacramento beat out the Bay Area by a wide margin? Any California folks care to comment?

Kind of surprised at the weak showings by both Seattle and Portland. Also, I cannot FREAKING BELIEVE that Albuquerque, NM got better ratings than Phoenix. Ok, Phoenix...you fail.

Ft. Myers with a nice showing...move the Panthers 2 1/2 hours west?

Tulsa tied for 16th!

Look at the top 4 though. Boston, Providence, Buffalo, Hartford. 3 of them are Bruins Territory. Yes, One of the big reasons HFD didn't last was because it was...well, Bruins territory. That and the Hartford Civic Center had some poor sightlines and is steep in pitch for the stands.

These stats prove that Hartford deserves the Whalers back!

No, it proves that Hartford is full of Bruins fans. Hartford is slapped right in between Boston and New York, and even when the Whalers were around the Bruins and Rangers held strong followings there as well. Hartford compares roughly to Toledo, which is a little bit north of halfway between Detroit and Columbus, and is of similar size and would likely see the same effect where a majority of hometown fans are not of the home team. The Islanders also suffer this effect, as did the Nordiques.

Well we are basing this off the Nielson and their numbers. But if if they're as bad as you say for game two, then there may be something to what you're saying.

It threw me off too, getting a fastball through the middle of the plate like this.

Yayyy San Diego for coming in 13th! No, seriously, we never get excited about anything around here, so that's pretty good for us. We did better than a certain city east of us which has a hockey team and a higher population, too, ahem. (Gosh darn it, can't we even get a minor league team up in here?!)

What do these numbers mean? I mean, what is the significance of the numbers listed by each market? 1.5/2....what does that mean?

The 1st number is the percentage of households that have a TV who are watching a particular program, so a 1.5 means 1.5% of tv households are watching the game. The 2nd number is the percentage of people who have the TV on(watching something) and are watching the game, so a 2 means 2% of households that are actually watching something are watching the game.

t30. Milwaukee

Would not have guessed this at all. I've always thought Milwaukee would be the next best US city to hopefully get a team. I thought people followed Badger hockey pretty hardcore in Wisconsin...I guess there just isn't much of a NHL following

Game 2 local ratings-Nashville 3rd. Although, I wonder how much MLB plays a role in other cities getting lower ratings.Still, Nashville continues to impress.

Amazing ratings for game 7-even more impressive when you consider one team was Canadian.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/16/game-7-of-2011-stanley-cup-finals-ties-best-game-7-overnight-ratings-on-record/

The Boston Bruins 4-0 win drew a 5.7 overnight rating and 10 share, which ties the overnight ratings earned by a SCF Game 7 since the 2003 Stanley Cup finals between the Anaheim (Mighty?) Ducks and the New Jersey Devils. That also represents a 14 percent increase from the most recent Game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals, which took place between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in 2009.

BOSTON SETS RECORDS: The Boston market earned a 43.4 rating and a 64 share, the best overnight on record for a hockey game in Boston (dating back to 1991) and the best overnight in the Boston market featuring a Boston team in any major sports championship since Super Bowl XLII (Patriots-Giants, 55.6 on 2/3/08).

Boston’s seven-game average for the Stanley Cup Final (five games on NBC, two games on VERSUS) was a 28.1/44, 12 percent higher than ABC’s seven-game Boston average for last year’s NBA Finals (25.0/40 for Boston-LA Lakers).

Even better....Game 7 got the best ratings for an NHL game since 1974.

The reports of the league's demise are greatly exaggerated. So is the argument that nobody will watch a Final involving a Canadian team.

Best Ratings since 74

And yeah, I love that they point out that it outdrew the Celtics' last two NBA Finals. Enough of the NBA superiority attitude!
