Popeye's kid is white?

This is a cool story, you'd imagine the kid is well on his way of being 6'5". And if he has as good of vision as everyone is saying, he's going to be a beast!

mixed, his mom is white... agreed, if he's already 6'3 at 16, well....

Awesome article, SK, thanks for posting it.

Speaking of Gretzky and kids, did you guys see his daughter sing Oh Canada at the All Star Game years back?

them Gretzky's do it all... she's not too hard on the eyes either

Cool article, but Popeye seemed to have an "anything but hockey" attitude early on.

Can't blame the guy really, it was a sport he never really played, or knew... I'm not gonna lie, I realllly hope my boy doesn't gravitate towards basketball...

Maybe I should try really hard to meet her and someday I might call The Great One, "Dad.":P

shoot for the stars!

although, if I were you (not sure of your age, so I'm assuming you're younger) I'd hold out for a couple years until Yzerman's oldest is 18... either that, or go for one of Larionov's daughters, strictly on looks alone

EDIT - Looks like you don't even have to wait that long, Yzerman's oldest will be 18 this upcoming Feb!

Great Read! Thanks! And good luck to Seth! I find it disgusting some of the racial comments. I am white and proud, but if a kid, who just happens to have some African American in him, is that good at something that isn't normally associated with minorities, GOD BLESS HIM! I hope he gets drafted and plays 1000+ games in the NHL and score 1000+ points! Good Luck Seth!

no kidding, I don't even read the comment sections of articles like that, they seem to bring out the lowest, scrape of the barrel of society...

I think it's great for the game that racial barriers aren't bogging it down anymore, you are seeing more and more black players make it up through the ranks and the beauty of it is, that (generally speaking - lets leave Emery out of this, haha) the black players that make it to the NHL are FAR better role models for young black kids than majority of the black players in the NBA and NFL...

Two of my favorite young players in the game right now are Chris Stewart and Evander Kane and kids would be MUCH better served looking up to them, than a scumbag low life like Kobe Bryant or (insert Cincinnati Bengal here)

There are still lots of African American role models in Football and Basketball as well. Both sports have low-life punks who happen to be white as well. A certain Pittsburgh quarterback comes to mind...

Lol racial comments? I was confused if the picture in the article was him or not. It's not like I said "what's this N-word doing playing hockey". If they showed Gretzky's kid playing baseball and he was black I would have said "Gretzky's kid is black?". Get off your high horse if you found my comment disgusting lol. And I only hope he gets drafted and plays 1000 games and scores over a 1000 points as long as it isn't in the Wings conference, unless he's on the Wings scoring all those points!

edit: are you talking about my comment or the comments in the article?

I took his comment to mean the comments on the article, unless I misinterpreted that...

Agreed completely, you're missing my point... the point I was driving at, was that the quality of individual (regardless of race) in the NHL is much higher than that of the other sports...

Also, can we PLEASE do away with all the PC bs, it only leads to more racial divide... we're a melting pot called America and Americans are Americans, that's it - no prefix.

Never heard of this guy in my life....

Glad you aren't a scout then! :P

Article says projected top 10 draft in 2012, so he must be pretty darn good, and at least the right people have heard of him!

Honestly, have you ever heard of Nick Lidstrom before 1989? or Abdelkader before 2005?

I think hockey players in general are better role models. There's hardly any violence associated with them, except for maybe the very, very, very rare domestic dispute, and (in general) alcoholism is about as bad as it gets. They party hard but they also tend to be good people, unlike a lot of football, basketball, and baseball players.

So yeah, I think it's great that everyone--white, black, Asian, isn't there even a native Mexican in the NHL?--is making the NHL and staying classy.

As far as Mexicans go you have Gomez, Fernandez... also I think Torres is the only Spanish speaking person in the NHL.

I'm sure a lot of players born in the south or play in the south can speak Spanish since it's easy to learn and the heavy Spanish speaking population in Florida, California, Texas, Arizona etc. Also, for native mexicans, Gomez is not. Wasn't he born in Alaksa? That's as unmexican as it gets.

The bottom line of a kid making it to the higher levels in hockey in The U.S. has nothing to do with Black, White, Brown, Yellow, etc... It's having $$$ Green $$$.

As far as race goes, I hope we can all continue screwing each other until we're all grey.
