The Mac's are gone! :butbut:

Make room for the *****! Bab- and Hitch- :hysterical: Sorry couldn't resist.... (edit: I see someone else (^^^up there^^^) has the same warped mind as me!)

also, if I had my choice, I'd choose to replace the Mac's with the OV's but I don't think that is gonna happen....

McClellan, McCrimmon, (The Walrus was Paul) MacLean, all gone, I'm starting to think that Bab's is a real cock to work for. Good luck to ya, P-Mac.

Err... I think it's more likely that Babcock's consistent success, and the significant amount of respect had for him league-wide, makes his assistants seem like attractive prospects. Given that two of the above three were offered head coaching jobs, are you really thinking that they left because they didn't like him? Maybe they left because they were extended a bigger opportunity and a way bigger paycheck.

Detroit Red Wings Hockey: "We'll Beat You With Our #%!@s"

That got me rolling! :rotflmao:

Anyway, this is going to be a really interesting off season.

...Going to be even more crazy if Lids hangs them up. God, please Lids, stay one more year!

You're absolutely right. The reality is that guys trying to make a solid career for themselves love working for 'cock.

Sorry Paul, I am sure the Wings will let you come back in a year or two when you realize you would rather be an assistant coach to a cup contender than head coach of a bottom feeder.

EDIT: Ok. Sounded like an ******* but seriously good luck to him with the Senators.

"There’s lots of qualified candidates, people who have been in the industry as assistant coaches, people who have been head coaches," general manager Ken Holland said. "Mike Babcock brings names to me. I’ll sign off on whoever Mike wants on his staff."

God help us all.

That is not how a coaching staff should work. The GM should bring in the best guys that fit what the team philosophy is, and check to make sure the coach doesn't have a bad history. I don't like this one bit. Is this how we hired McCrimmon?

This made me feel worse about our situation.

Assistant coaches are almost always on the head coach's suggestions/recommendations/call in the NHL. Assistant selections are all about who the head coach feels has good chemistry with him and his style and feels can help him out with what needs done.

GMs usually play little in assistant coach selection other than "can I afford this guy?" and "does this guy have a history I can live with"? HC makes the selections, GM signs off on it.

Sorry! I apologize for forgetting to use the <sarcasm> font.

Not sure how he feels about it, or if he's interested, but Mark Howe would make for a good defensive coach, IMHO. The guy was a real student of the game, and I remember him doing some clinics in the 90's where he seemed to have a knack for coaching. I don't know if he would want the opportunity, or if The Wings would want to move him from pro scouting, but if they can't convince Hitch into taking the job, I hope they, at least, put Mark on their short list.

Are you kidding?!?!?!?!? That is EXACTLY how a coaching staff should work... the unit has to work as one to be on the same page, so of course the head coach should choose who's on HIS coaching staff...

also, I'm pretty sure Holland had more involvement in McCrimmon's hiring, whereas Babs chose MacClean and McClellan, so I think Holland appreciates and realizes Mike NEEDS to make this decision to be the most effective...

It's not like we can rely on our PP. :hehe:

I choked on my noodles.

Best of luck, Walrusman. googoogajoob.

Speaking of ex-Wings as assistants, what do we feel about Marc Habscheid? Gallant is the clear top choice with his experience out East, but I'm not sure I'd want Hitchcock if (I suspect) he's gone 20 games into the season to fill the next NHL head coaching vacancy.
