No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

At this point in time, I'd take Jagr over Hudler.

EDIT: He's always welcome to our training camp to see how he would fit in with the team.

Umm Dallas Drake? Reichi? Having guys come in like that helps win the Cup a lot more than it doesnt... Sure, this past year the whole Modano signing did not help, but I think a reason for that was his crazy ass injury that he got. Signing Jagr to a reasonable price could be the difference maker for this Red Wings team. From what I hear, the Wings are looking into signing Wisnuski (however you spell it), and there is NO WAY he gets Rafi's 6 million. Also the cap is projected to go up to 63 or possibly 64 million dollars, therefore Kenny does have some money to spend.

IMO Kenny could afford to sign Wisnuski to help replace Rafi to around 4 million bucks, and use that extra 2 million to sign Jagr, and then they can still sign a good depth Dman. I don't care what anyone says, Jagr has all the talent in the world, but he also has tremendous heart (see the Rangers a couple years ago... he was the ONLY one trying all he could for that team in the playoffs) and I think his skill and his heart and his determination would fit very well into the Wings system. Imagine the lines!

Homer- Datsyuk- Jagr

Bertuzzi- Zetterberg- Franzen

Cleary- Filpulla- Hudler

Eaves- Helm- Abdelkator/ Miller

Lidstrom- Kronwall

Wisnuski- Stuart

Kindl- ?

Howard

Ozzie

That team looks like a very possible 2012 Stanley Cup Champions if you ask me...

 so instead of trading Hudler, you are gonna let Emmerton AND Mursak go to waivers? This is exactly what we DON'T want to happen if Jagr gets signed! Unless you are trading Hudler (or Filppula, which I am not in favor of) then DO NOT sign Jagr at the risk of throwing away Mursak and Emmerton! If you trade Hudler, you can have Jagr (who more than replaces Hudler and by a landslide (as long as he doesn't want too much)) plus have Emmerton AND Mursak on this team... (yes queue a line-up suggestion, sorry guys!)

Filppula - Datsyuk - Jagr

Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Franzen

Eaves - Helm - Cleary

Holmstrom - Abdelkader - Miller

Mursak/Emmerton

Stuart - Kronwall

Lidstrom - Wisniewski

Jovanovski - Montador

Kindl

Howard

Legace :ninja: (I know I know, but with all the names being thrown around as back up I figured I'd just slap his name in there because I know his Father in Law...any solid back-up will do though!)

I still prefer a younger UFA like a Jussi Jokinen, but if Holland opts for Jagr, at a fair price, I can live with it...

Ok, I'm going to post a lineup and I don't want to get blasted over it. I'm not saying it's possible or that I think it might happen, just how cool it looks. Sort of like if I were to post a picture of a Lamborghini. I know I won't be owning a Lamborghini anytime soon, but they sure are cool to look at. So is this.

FORWARDS

Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)

Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Jaromir Jagr ($2.000m)

Johan Franzen ($3.954m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m)

Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.000m)

Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m)

DEFENSEMEN

Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($4.750m)

Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($1.500m)

Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)

Doug Janik ($0.512m)

GOALTENDERS

Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Brian Boucher ($1.000m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)

SALARY CAP: $63,500,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,393,938; BONUSES: $0

CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $106,062

I could deal with most of your lineup, but Ericsson has been rumored to have turned down the latest offer which was supposed to be "More Than" $2M, so screw him, and I, for one, do not want to sacrifice Miller and his work ethic to keep Hudler on this team and also wouldn't want to give up Emmerton(unless he was traded.) You got Carter in a trade, but I disagree that it would require Fil, I think Hudler/prospect(Emmerton or Mursak)/pick(s) would get it, especially since Philly has to dump salary. In place of Ericsson and Salei, I chose Jovo and Montador, having Wiz and Montador would give Babcock TWO right handers on the point...

I think Kenny could find someone better for just as much or maybe even less $$$$. I see the point you're making but in my opnion the Wings need to start getting younger. Fine if we need another Vet but let's go after one in the Free Agent Market other than him. Let's not forget he played in Russia last season so it would be the same type of deal like Nabokov wouldn't it? He would have to be open to all the other teams to pick up before he could actually come to Detroit or is that wrong? Either way I think we can fill a Vet spot with someone a little bit better.

AMEN!!!! I couln't agree more!!!!

Dimaline, Sorry I didnt see this earlier but no he would not. The reason Nabokov had to pass through waivers is because he ended his contract early and was basically still contracted by his russian team. The difference with Jagr is he is currently a free Agent and doesn't have a contract with any team so he is free pickins.

Actually, that's not true. He started the NHL season overseas (even if his contract had run out). If you start the season overseas, then you must clear through waivers to play in the NHL for that same season.

Big part's of me feel that Jagr just has had such a bad attitude, like with the Rangers he publicly gave up before actually being defeated. I hate that. Then there is the other side that thinks with Pavs or Hank he could be huge....but I still hope we get a little younger scoring help opposed to older...

If they both put up the same numbers, I don't care who we get as long as June comes and we have the cup :)

The thing I don't get is why Jagr wants to come back to the NHL. He's never been all that attached to it, or else why leave for the KHL to begin with? Hudler did it just to get his big payday, but Jagr was already highly paid. I guess I don't understand why he would want to end his career on the other side of the world in a league he already left once. I would have concerns about his hunger to win.

EDIT: And part of me wonders why he keeps talking about playing Datsyuk and Zetterberg. On the one hand, it's obvious why anyone would want to play with them, but on the other he's automatically assuming he'll be on the top two lines and I wonder if he's just thinking it'd be an easy coast to a Cup having them do all the hard work. I only say that considering his past.

I once met a guy in Prague who deals cards at a casino on one of the main squares. He told me some stories about Jagr visiting his casino, and how much he loves to gamble and throw ridiculous amounts of money around.

Ahhh okay... Thanks konnan... Kinda the same but I understand what your saying... If a Nabokov had played out his contract and then tried to come over during the same season. The same result would have happened because he started the beginning of that season other then the NHL...

If you played in the NHL the previous year! ( I Thought) ?

Let's be honest the Russian national team is a choke fest worse than Miami with the big 3. Also I am pretty sure it was for bronze not gold. Canada didn't have the best people at the tournament as well.

Again the NHL playoffs are not some quick one and done tournament. It is a physical and mental grind along with a much longer, tougher, harder NHL season.

It was last year for gold, this year for bronze.

It's interesting how people randomly meet other people that know some first-hand celebrity gossip that is relevant to their argument.

I never said if I was for or against having Jagr come to the Wings. I just added this random bit of information. It's the offseason, things are slow. Take it for what it's worth. There was no previous conversation about Jagr, it could have been any one of a million Czech hockey players if he was lying, but he specifically talked about Jagr.

Personally, I think Jagr for under $2 million would be a good risk to take on. However, having played roughly average 60 games for the past 3 years, how would Jagr handle the 82 game grind of the NHL, plus ~20 intense playoff games in a deep run? Hopefully the coaching staff would be smart enough to rest him a bit throughout the season.

I believe konnan is right... That if u start the season overseas you can't just join the NHL mid season if you decide to rid your contract or your contract runs out. As for the next season if the player is a free agent they can sign anywhere, just like free agents can decide to go sign in Russia if they would like to...

I believe I'm partially correct but there are probably a lot more details in play that I don't know about...

So how about Todd "I hit the post" Bertuzzi or Tomas "Can't skate" Holmstrom. You must be on some incredibly effective crack if you think Jagr wouldn't be able to handle what they do year in and year out. Jagr is likely in his best shape since 2000 or so.

Bertuzzi: 16 goals, 29 assists, 45 points, 81 games.

Holmstrom: 18 goals, 19 assists, 38 points, 73 games.

Considering how neither of those had consistent linemates, each bouncing from first to third lines and between, I'd say that's nothing to sneeze at. Jagr had 25 goals, 46 assists and 71 points, so he'd likely slide right in.

Then again, why compare Jagr to those two? Holmstrom's a left wing. Jagr's a RW. Bertuzzi oscillates between the wings as needed, as in the BFF line.

I could see Jagr replacing Hudler or Miller easily enough.

Franzen - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Cleary

Hudler - Filppula - Jagr

Abdelkader - Helm - Eaves

Not bad. :g:

That's a dirty line-up. Each line is defensively responsible and each line only has one floater on it!

I like this!

I would like to see Jagar and Helm on the same line. I think Jagar's skill and Helm's speed would really open up the ice to either Flip or Eaves or whoever they put on that line.
