So now they will go from losing 6-5 to losing 3-1?

Something no one has touched on yet, so who's going to be the Flyers captain?

Pronger of course!

At $5.6 a year, it had better be Bryz.

Luongo was the first goalie in awhile to be a captain, and he'll probably be the last for awhile as well. Also, Bryzgalov is something of a gruff character with a bad attitude; I doubt he's fit to be captain.

looking at this trade I actually might think the flyers come out on top in this one.

They solve their goalie issues, get a guy who is giong to be better version of Richards in Schenn, a very good third liner in Simmonds, a potential star in Voracek, probably one of Strome, Murphy or Courturier and some more solid depth picks.

In carter they lose a long contract that doesnt play in the playoffs, and yeah giving up Richards may seem like a lot but JVR and Giroux are ready to step up. I expect 80 points out of Giroux very soon.

They got heat from the media for partying with pornstars or something. I never saw the big deal.

You don't see the BIG deal in that photo you posted? Although probably fake, those are quite a set of BIG deals. One of them is sticking out a nipp-I mean, a little.

Well, the West got better and Philly didn't get a whole lot worse. All the teams involved seemed to have received good deals. The Flyers GM really did get some great value for their players, he has to be happy with all things considered.

From what I've read, Schenn's upside is Richards. This is second hand info, but it seems to be the majority opinion.

I think the Flyers can win this in the long-term (depending on development and the goalie situation), but LA and Columbus win in the short-term. Columbus needs to make the playoffs soon (how they do in the playoffs is the next step), and Carter is a big step toward that.

Both Richards and Carter? WTF?

The bigger wtf moment is when they also sign an unproven goalie to nearly a decade deal. Heck, I wouldn't sign any goalie to a long term like that. Proven or not.

Let me know when Schenn actually does become at the same level as Richards, let alone better.

The Flyers do have players that could perform, but what are the odds the increased roles they are given hurt them in the next coming years? Detroit's secondary forwards thrived in 08 and 09 because there was so much depth on the team. The Flyers getting worse on depth (and getting rid of a 40 goal scorer AND another forward a year removed from a potential Conn Smythe worthy season) isn't magically made up by their acquisition of Bryz. As we saw in the first round this year, the guy can be a head case. And he is on contract till he is 39.

I have the same sentiments. They took a step back this coming season, but in two or three season from now they are strong.

In 2-3 years ...

Kimmo Timonen will be 38-39.

Chris Pronger will be 38-39.

Danny Briere will be 35-36.

Ilya Bryzgalov will be 34-35.

You don't think that is an issue?

Honestly, no. Pronger and Timonen are getting up there in age but it's not unusual anymore for an upper 30s player to still be very effective. And I don't see Briere or Bryzgalov's ages affecting them at all.

Philly got the good end of this deal, probably. Columbus got themselves a star but it won't help them any in the long run, they need to have some sort of structure for their team and a great supporting cast to get anywhere (See: Tampa). And I'm not so sure I pull the trigger on the LA part of the deal if I'm the Kings.

The bigger wtf moment is when they also sign an unproven goalie to nearly a decade deal. Heck, I wouldn't sign any goalie to a long term like that. Proven or not.

Exactly. Some teams just don't get it. It's not a goalie's league anymore, the only thing you can realistically hope for is a stable goalie who doesn't make huge mistakes but can't steal games all the time (See: Howard). Why someone would overpay when they could probably get a good goalie in a trade or through free agency for much less boggles my mind. I know they needed a goalie, but there would have been better options out there.

That being said, Bryz will play well for them for a couple years at least, but they won't win anything big with him.
