This deal doesn't make a lick of sense.

47 points.
I'm sure the Oilers will be all over adding a 6.25 million dollar cap hit for a 35 year old forward who produced 41pts(?) last season. I wouldn't take Smyth from LA even if it was only for future considerations. On top of that LA is trying to compete for a Cup so they'll want to keep a top 6 forward who can produce 41pts around next season.
This deal doesn't make a lick of sense.
The cap hit doesn't really matter to the Oilers. In fact, it would help keep them comfortably above the cap floor. His salary is $4.5 million, which is probably not something the Oilers would be excited about, but probably not a deal-breaker.
What about Smyth-for-Souray?

Living close and having been there quite a few times, it's not hard to see why people hate it so much. Crimes bad, weathers worse, and there arent alot of parksI have never been to Edmonton so I have no judgement against Edmonton as a city. Why do so many people hate on Edmonton so much?
The fans are passionate, and they have good management and ownership finally, but all the other things about the city keeps players from wanting to go there.. except Smyth for some reason.

Ryan Smyth - "Hey, I'd love to come back to Edmonton!"

Steve Tambellini - "Sorry, you had your chance to stay a few years ago. Looks like your 'heart was in Edmonton' only if the price was right."

Me thinks a line of Brown - Kopitar - Hemsky would be pretty sick.
Of course, I'm sure LA would have to give a little something extra to obtain Hemsky.

Admirable, but odd nonetheless... guess he doesn't care about getting a cup before he retires...Sources say he wants to move back to Edmonton for family reasons.
All I have to say about Holland and our off-season:
and finally
Holland is a damn good GM. period.
