I am left reeling (and quite pissed the Wings couldn't get either Richards or Carter!)what will the new Philly team be like?

Something also tells me they might not be done.

Does this affect our ability to extract a player like Colburn or Carle? Would this make them less or more likely to take Hudler?

What about their desire for a center?

What does this do to Brad Richards value?

Will our younger viewers get the Soap reference???

Who won, Kings-BJs-or Flyers.

Answers?

I'm not one to doubt Holland, but he had better have a strong plan this offseason. Two of our conference rivals just got some pretty good face-lifts today so far.

Richards would have been a nice addition to this team, regardless of lifestyle.

Who is going to be their number two center?

Giroux

Briere

That's a pretty good 1-2 punch.

Maybe Carter and Richard's off-ice issues really are that bad? And that's why Holmgren traded them.

Regardless, he could've probably gotten a better return if he had some patience. And Bryzgalov's contract is just ridiculous.

He got what he wanted.... Salary dump!

It sounds like he took the 1st offer that came up just to get it done...

Who in our farm system is worth the same as Schenn or the 8th overall draft pick? No one. Come on guys.

this

Holmgren wanted to replace their salaries with cheap youngster(s) picked high in the draft.

now who of you, children, remember when did the Wings were within first 10 picks? anyone?

yep... Marty Lapointe back in 1991 :)

thank you!

Holland will get our men, absolutely, but please remain realistic about Wings tradeable assets...

This just means that we have more work to do. The Kings just got a ton better, especially if they dump Smyth and can replace him. The odds we make a deal now with the Kings might have gone up.

I am hoping Scudari can be gotten cheaply. Maybe Hudler and a pick can do that?

Those were two pretty good returns. The Kings deal was better than the CBJ deal, but the cap situation still doesn't feel perfect. I bet he tried really hard to get Hartnell thrown in.

More importantly, would anyone here be ok with giving them up if we had them for Richards or Carter? I think not.

I would... 1 of Richards or carter did not land them both Schenn and the 8th overall pick... Richards got them Schenn and yes I would give up schenn and Simmonds for Richards. Carter got them the 8th overall pick, with vorachk and a 3rd.

So yes I would if it meant giving up schenn, 8th overall, simmonds a third and vorachk for both Richards and Carter at there cap hits...

Instead of giving up an asset for Scuderi who costs 3.4 million and is good for 15-20 pts per season (yes I know he is a great defensive player), why not just grab Steve Montador off of free agency for 2 million or so? He is gritty, plays a solid defensive game, and has been proven to put up 20-30 pts consistently. Oh and he's also a right handed shot, which we need more of.

I'm not necessarily against Scuderi, but why would they even think about giving him up? And who would it take to get him? I don't know if they'd want Filppula or Huds...

Scudari played at the highest level in the league against us in the Stanley Cup Finals and was their best player. He plays with more grit and heart than Montador. Points are not what I am looking for, I think this is the type of player we were missing. I believe we are going to get at least two right handers elsewhere. Not that I hate Montador, I just think Rob could be the way we get rid of Hudler.

I'm surprised they traded their captain. Guess we'll see if Ilya s***s the bed like Luongo did in the Stanley Cup Final. Ilya isn't that good and...the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder agreed in November to a $58-million, 11-year contract with the Flyers. Now the Blue Jackets have a $5M cap hit this coming season...I don't get the thinking on this trade. That is jacked up. I hope Philly bombs this season. "Carter's agent, Rick Curran, confirmed the deal on Thursday afternoon. He said he was stunned by the news after being told repeatedly by Flyers officials that the club was not discussing trading Carter to the Blue Jackets." That's f***ed up!

I know that as an outside observer it makes sense to pull the trigger on those trades. My point was that once the Wings draft a player, fans grow an irrational emotional attachment to them and that player somehow becomes untradeable. I'm sure 90% of this forum would be against trading Smith or Tatar or any other highly regarded prospect, unless the trade was obscenely in our favor. Its gotten so bad that people get upset whenever someone suggests trading away future first round picks (despite the fact that we haven drafted outside the top 20 in 6 years)

I just want to point out that I am in favor of moving three of our former first picks right now to get someone to help us win now.

Ferrero, Sheahan, and Emmerton are all on my trade block if I was in charge.

I am of the opinion that we have so much offensive depth in the farm that I would move these guys to get a boost.

I was only a year when that last happened. While it is disappointing we didn't we need to remember that we are going to have some major contracts due up soon (Howard, Helm, Abdalkader, Kronwall and Stew) all in the next year it is probably a good thing we didn't get either though I wanted Byron Coburn really bad.

Howard is signed through 2012-13, Helm and Abdelkader won't be difficult to fit under the cap. Kronwall is the only person of that group that's going to deserve a big raise next year.

My first thought was who will be their 2nd line center as well, but then when I read somewhere Giroux would be slotted there, I remembered that he is a natural center. Looks like Voracek and Simmonds are RFA who need to be re-signed, but this might give them the flexibility to re-sing Leino.

Richards and Carter must have really been a problem in the dressing room. I'm not excited by the fact that the Western conference and Central division just got a lot stronger.

Yes, I agree a lot of times people don't want to part with prospects in our camp. I just like to look at it as more of "I know that this player is good now, compared to what this other player might or might not become."

Well we can only hope that this sends a message to Holland to step it up. Be smart, but use the cap space you have and improve the team, defensively first, but don't ignore the offense. Bring on Brent Burns!
