Bieksa re-signs with vancouver

You know I suspect(ed) Holland and his team have targeted a lesser known d-man that [isn't] a stud, but will miraculously end up being a stud. His name _unknown_

I don't see Holland getting in a bidding war for a mid-level dman (Wiz, Pitkanen).

Babchuk maybe?

In another thread I suggested trading for Gonchar and Kuba since both are on the block. I would rather get a couple of band aids than overpay long term for someone on the FA market.

we coulda paid him 6....

we coulda paid him 16....

He's not worth more than 4. He had a good playoff run, but wasn't never that good of a defenseman. He's being overpaid. I hope this doesn't set the tone of the FA market.

Despite some word that Bieksa took a 'home town discount' you've got to wonder if this is the true benchmark for UFA defensement in terms of salary. Personally, I don't think Markov set the tone with his 3 year $15.25 deal. If word that the Wings are interested in Ehroff and/or Wisniewski is true the Wings could conceivably attain both (assuming those players want to come here) while still have money for a back up goaltender and a forward. Kopecky and Harding are just random names for rough dollar amounts that could still be distributed differently. Plus, adding in Ericsson at $2.4M/yr is sure to get a rise out of a lot of LGW members.

Ehrhoff is supposedly going to get a Bieska style deal in Vancouver.

$4.6m with an NTC. I think that with Setoguchi in mind, we'll be seeing a lot NTCs this summer.

Guest Hatethedrake!

I'm not surprised with this contract for Bieksa. Personally, I think he is overrated. I mean he is a good dman but he is not an elite level dman. Of course neither are Wisniewski and Ehrhoff or Pitkanen for that matter. I expected Bieksa to take a hometown discount to stay in Vancouver. I expect both Kronwall and Stuart will do the same this time next year. With this signing, I believe it paves the way for Ehrhoff to remain a Canuck as well. With the Cap floor now being at 48 mil, I expect Wiz to get come crazy offers. If he becomes a Red Wing it will have to be at a discount. I hope Kenny signs him but it is certainly not the end of the world if a team like say the Leafs give him a 7 year deal for 42 mil with a no trade clause. I can totally see Burke doing that. Look what he gave Komisarek who is nothing more than a 3rd pair dman.

This is fine, maybe we'll get Wiz for about the same.... I have no issues with Wiz for 5 yrs $4.7ish million... Then give me Montador for $2M and Jovo for $3M...

Kronwall - Stuart

Lidstrom - Wiz

Jovo - Montador

Kindl

I would love to see that D starting the season.... If Ericsson would take $1.7M then he can replace either Jovo or Montador...

I think Jovo is done, other than that, I like it too, I really, really like Montador and think he would be an amazing fit here, also, it's looking incredibly likely that E is getting re-signed, so give me that plus Wiz and I love it:

Lidstrom-Wisniewski

Kronwall-Stuart

Ericsson-Montador

Kindl

Yes. please.

Ericsson WILL re-sign... which is okay, but he'll probably sign around 2.3 million, unfortunately. I would rather he take Jovo's spot in your scenario as that way we would keep Montador with is right handed shot and more than likely less expensive price tag. Oh and he's younger, too.

We were posting at the same time... that's exactly what I said more or less... that would be a fantastic D in my mind, add Monty and Wiz, re-sign E and roll with it...

yes, I would be ok with that too, as long as Holland doesn't overpay Ericsson. I like $1.7Mish but if it is $2.3M and we still get Wiz and Montador,I can definitely live with that. It still gives Holland $6M+ to get a back-up goaler and address the forwards...

Color me shocked. Good, I didn't want him here, Wiz is the better player. It's amazing how much having a good goalie will make you look better than what you really are.

Wouldn't that logic apply even more to Wiz considering Carey Price is much better than Luongo?
