With the Lightning signing Ryan Shannon and Stevie Y saying his roster is set...I just don't see Stamkos staying with the bolts. Vinny has a cap hit of $7.7M from 2009-2010 until 2019-2020. Tampa has $15.4M in cap space and $3.2M in Bonuses...there is no way Tampa can meet any offer sheet and not violate the 2005 CBA rules or front load it w/o the NHL looking at it...not a snowballs chance in hell. I say he walks.
They have all of that cap space, that amount of bonuses, and that's for two buyouts, two goalies, eight defensemen, and nine forwards. So they have Stamkos, Purcell, and two other forwards to sign for less than $12.2m. Seems perfectly reasonable.
Although something to consider given Vinny's albatross contract;
He's definitely not worth the money. So if you waive him to buy him out, he almost certainly doesn't get picked up. Buy him out, that's $2,575,757 for the buyout, or 1/3 of his cap hit. Vinny is out about $21m because he'll only get two-thirds of what's left. Now you immediately sign him back on for *drumroll* $21m over nine years. That's a $2,333,333 hit, total hit for Vinny is cut down to $4,909090 from $7,727,273. That's over $2.8m.

Stamkos will be wearing the Winged Wheel next season.
LMAO I want what your smoking. It will never happen...Kenny doesn't have the money along with players or draft picks to pull it off.

I don't see Vinny's being waived and I don't see them tinkering with his contract, all that stuff you mentioned above is a pipe dream (wishful thinking)...their old GM has hand cuffed Stevie Y...no getting around it. Who ever makes and offer sheet Tampa has to match it or risk seeing him walk and Tampa doesn't have the money to match a high dollar contract from someone else. Tampa isn't going to do what the Devils did for Ilya Kovalchuk or anything close to that. I say an offer is being worked out at this moment, it will get done at night while we are asleep, and we'll wake up to see Stamkos with another team in the East.
There is to many odd things going on with what Stevie Y is saying to the media and the resent signings.

Sure, Stamkos could be the next great thing in the NHL and Stevie will look like Mike Milbury. Or create an even better team without Stamkos, win a championship and look like a genius.

I just don't get it. He's what, 21? And he thinks he deserves this big huge contract? He wasn't that impressive his rookie season and he has a lot to prove before getting his BIG payday.
Scoring 23 goals as a rookie is pretty impressive. And then there's that whole scoring 96 in the next two seasons thing.

Ignore that troll. As soon as football season starts he'll forget all about hockey and we'll never have to hear from him again.The smiley after the sentence means it's a joke.

So are you suggesting he deserves this big payday, more than the 7.4 million cap hit contract that has be reported as turned down by him?
Because I don't.

I think that we have to keep in mind that this is a different market from when players such as Datsyuk or Zetterberg signed their contracts. 7.4 isn't that much for a player of his caliber anymore, although obviously Stevie would like him to take less. I'd certainly be concerned about his poor showing in the playoffs, but based on the market, he's definitely worth at least 7.4.So are you suggesting he deserves this big payday, more than the 7.4 million cap hit contract that has be reported as turned down by him?
Because I don't.
Having said that, I wouldn't blame Stevie for dealing him either, particularly due to Lecavalier's contract. Just because values above 7.4 are fair doesn't mean that it's what's right for the team.

Lots of misinformation here. First, to buy him out, you have to pay 2/3 of his remaining contract because he's over 26. That means you have to pay him over $43 million immediately as part of the buyout. The cap hit varies from year to year during the length of the contract, but then lasts until 2029. Also, a player bought out is not eligible to sign with the team that just bought him out, so it's a completely impossible situation proposed here.
