That's about right for this market and I'm kind of surprised it wasn't $6 mil.

well, i suppose this forces holland into a trade now. i really dont see him signing kaberle or white at this point. these are 2 players that aren't worth overpaying for in FA.

1. Flip and 3rd to Caps for Wideman
2. Sign Richards
3. Trade/waive Hudler for anything
4. Sign Jovo or SOB
5. Sign Konopka
6. Sign Garon or Theo
Zetterberg - Dats - Bertuzzi
Cleary - Richards - Franzen
Eaves - Helm - Homer
Abdelkader - Konopka - Mursak/Tatar
Lids - Wideman
Kronwall - Jovo/Stuart
Stuart/SOB - Ericsson
I would hate to lose Flip - but it's the only trade value that we could move.
Richards is great player (top 6 forward) and he can play point on PP.
Wideman provides right hand DEF who can play with Lids against any line in NHL.
Konopka, good at faceoof's, gritty forward who can skate, hit and fight. Still can learn - reference: Shawn Thornton.

I see the wings getting involved in the Richards circus now.
This sucks right now, but honestly, it puts them in much better position for a big name defenseman hitting UFA next year.

Have to disagree. While it is a bit high (I was thinking 4.5 mil range) you gotta remember that Wisnewski is a top pair d-man and notched over 50 points last year. Ericsson is a bottom pair d-man with no offensive talent whatsoever.
How can people say this is overpayment but Ericsson is fair market value?
Denial much?

You could pay me 2 million to tape sticks and it would be more fair than E.Officially concerned now... I wanted Wisniewski. Seems a fair price compared to E's contract.

Even if it is a slight overpayment, you gotta give to get. If you don't overpay anybody then you end up with nobody.

I'm not concerned.
Wis was amongst the most hyped players for FA. I'm not surprised at all that he's overpaid and for Columbus' sake I hope he plays up to his contract. Marketing 101.
In the pre-cap era the Wings would have probably splashed the bigger offer and landed him. In the post-cap era the Wings have been successful playing the cap smartly, and not handing huge payouts to unqualified players.
Be thankful this was not a Red Wings deal.

So Columbus got Carter, Wiz ... they look like the team that did some serious damage in one week. They might just make it to 8th spot this year.

There is nothing wrong with what Wiz got, hes exactly what the Wings needed. Him playing against the Wings isn't going to be a fun thing this year and CBJ are going to be a pretty good team if Mason can play like he did a couple years ago.
