dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 Commodore is actually 6'5" and 235 lbs. As someone already mentioned, hopefully this will be another successful Holland reclamation project. He's slow, but could he really be slower than Salei? Is he just as nasty as Salei though? Salei was a prick at times to the opposition last year.

Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 Is he physical and can he play defense? Honest question. Yes - he can/will be physical. Yes - he can play D. He could turn to be good addition for Detroit. Commodore was loved in Calgary, in Carolina... in Columbus it didn't worked well but it's COLUMBUS...

He's slow, but could he really be slower than Salei? Indeed. And please don't forget he never played for joy, just for money. Now he has enough after than contract with CBJ. Nobody knows how he will look like when he finally understands there is a chance to win.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) Is he just as nasty as Salei though? Salei was a prick at times to the opposition last year. Honestly I didn't think Salei played with the edge I was hoping he would. I don't know how nasty Commodore is to play against most shifts. He will drop the gloves on occasion. If you guys are thinking of this as Holland's big move, then I get being disappointed. But the Wings needed a bottom pairing guy to replace Salei and they got a decent one for cheap, who could turn out to be a steal. And if he doesn't, it's one year. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) Commodore was only making $1.4M in CB and he got bought out. Why the hell would you offer him another $1M, that's like giving a reject player a raise ... so he gets the buyout money and now a $1M from us ??!! Damn ... if only Stevie Y was still around, he would have prevented this stupidity. Edited July 1, 2011 by RedWingsRox 1 Reds4Life reacted to this

LionsAndRedwingsAndPistonsOhMy 3 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 Wait. People are freaking out about a $1M depth signing with size and grit that at most will play 5/6 spot on the D? Really?!?! (You really think he's meant to replace Raffi?!lol!!) I don't like the guy much, but I fail to see how this is a terrible, terrible, end-of-the-world signing. He doesn't work out, he gets the ax. He does, we got a decent D-man on the cheap. Don't understand the reaction at all. 2 haroldsnepsts and hockey23 reacted to this

Damn ... if only Stevie Y was still around, he would have prevented this stupidity. He was set to make $3.35M and had a $3.75M cap hit. $1.4M is what he'll get from the buyout plus $1M from the Wings so $2.4M total. So it's a million dollar pay cut for him. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 I think it's the we got Ralfalski's $6M to spend and all we can get is someone else's dirty seconds. No half decent Dman, no attempt to trade a 4th or 5th round pick for rights to Wiz, Erhoff, etc. and all we have to show for today is Commodore ??!!

Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 Well... That was unexpected. Low salary because he'll still be receiving salary from the Jackets, since they bought him out with 2 years left on his old contract. He's big, and can be aggressive, and has the coveted right handed shot, so if he's effective, then it's a good signing. Now, someone needs to make sure he wears #64 this year. That would be epic. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) I knew there was some history between Commodore and Babcock. Sounds like it's basically Commodore holding some grudge against Babcock that Babs doesn't even remember. He better show up to camp in shape though, that's for sure. "The only thing I ever questioned about Mike was his conditioning," Babcock said. "In my mind, Mike always has been a quality guy. When he came up, I didn't think he was in condition. That's it."He (Commodore) admits he took a poor attitude to the minors, where he spent three or four nights a week drinking. The Ducks recalled Commodore twice, but he never played in a game. The defenseman says Babcock ripped him in the media, although he can't recall the particulars. "Over the years, guys remember certain things about coaches, and that's fine," Babcock said. "Mike always has had a great attitude and an infectious personality." uh, so you blame babcock but admit you were drinking 3 or 4 nights a week? Shocking that your coach would question your commitment. Let's hope he's learned his lesson. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/01/27/jackets_1-27.ART_ART_01-27-09_C1_M8CMUVB.html?type=rss&cat=&sid=101 Edited July 1, 2011 by haroldsnepsts
