With the signings of Upshall, Jovanovski, Fleischmann, Versteeg, and Theodore, the Panthers are making the case to be serious playoff contenders this year. Will they finally be able to gain relevance in South Florida? I'd enjoy seeing it.

No...they won't be relevant. Not even close.

Teams rarely are any good when they build from free agency!

I'd vote for "soon to be cash-strapped" over "relevant".

No.
"It is a lot easier to be an ******* to words than to people"-xkcd

Tootoo does NOT belong on this team. He is classless and I would rather see the Wings be bad than classless. I feel the same way about Bertuzzi as well, but he at least CAN make the team better. With Tootoo the team becomes worse and in danger of being classless. Would you have liked Claude on the team? Or Roy? No. So why would you be okay with that POS.

They're trying to get above the cap floor and are over paying above average players to inflated contracts. They're not trying to be a contender. They're a joke.

Just cause you look like the gimp don't mean you play like the gimp!

The sole purpose of their existence is to get above the cap floor. Hockey teams don't try to win, not this one at least!

Also the guys they signed are 2nd line people or 1st liners if carried.

Today was the attempt to try to not move from Miami in the next 2-3 years and get SOMETHING going in their tiny fan base. Even if they make the playoffs in the eight seed, they won't put up enough of a showing to succeed.

Ask the 90's Rangers who building from free agency went. Rarely ever works..a bunch of guys with no chemistry.

"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Refuses to Work Hard"

LGW after 1 loss is irrational, after a few in a row it becomes quite comical, 22 playoff appearances in a row and 4 cups in that time and still going strong. Relaxxxxx !!

They remind me of when Tampa went free agent crazy a few years back. Looked like they were building an exciting team but it amounted to a bunch of overpaid players with little to no chemistry as a team.
