I didnt see this posted anywhere so forgive me if this is old news but how in the hell can Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond be among the worst of the announcers. What I do not get is the author of this article bashes announcers for being homers well the announcers are working for that TEAM so I would expect them to be biased. Am I a homer for thinking are announcers definitly are not as bad as Jack Edwards.

That guy is one of the biggest homer idiots in the league.

Daniels got a couple VS gigs, so he must be doing something right.

I would probably rank Ken and Mick somewhere in the middle. They get on my nerves from time to time.

Ken's voice is what does it for me. It's like he wants to talk from his noise at times.Carolina's broadcasters are probably my favorites.

Murph makes you go "huh?" at first, but once you figure out he's plastered, it's a friggin' ball listening to him. Mickey's just a really big personality...you either like him or you don't, I guess.
I can't believe they would give any broadcast including Eddie Olczyk more than one star...I'll take Mickey's tall tales over Olczyk's herp de derp any day. I do agree that the Kings announcers are great and that the Ducks guys are infuriating, though.

Gord Miller (TSN, no team, does basically any teams at random that TSN can pick up)
Bob Cole (CBC, no team, but by default does lots of Leafs games)
Joe Bowen (CBC, LeafsTV, TSN, Sportsnet, lots of Leafs games and Canadian teams)
Dean Brown (Sportsnet, CBC, and on a rare rare occasion, Versus.. generally does Ottawa Senators)
There's way too many to list for "worst", but the writer of that op-ed is smoking crack with his high opinions of Hahn/Remenda (they get bitching way too much about refs, they used to be good in the 90s when the Sharks sucked), Olczyk, and Keith Jones.
I couldn't disagree more with the assessment of Kevin Quinn, who by nature is rather dull excitement-wise, but it really isn't an announcer's job to sit there and blast the team when you call the game. Hahn and Remenda used to do this quite often when the Sharks were having a constant streak of no playoff appearances mid and mid-late 90s, but changed their tune abruptly into complaining throughout a game.
I also don't believe on focusing too much on the lexicon people use. If that were the case I'd rate Jim Hughson highly because the guy is quite a linguist, however, he isn't exciting to listen to anymore, and I personally rate broadcasters by a) their tone of voice and how it plays into the game and b) how well they manage to keep focus on the game. It happens too often on every FSN/CSN/Versus/NBC broadcast I see where people start babbling during play and play by play doesn't take the reins to bring people back to it. If I wanted random babble I'd be listening to sports talk radio and not watching a hockey game.
As for Ken and Mickey, I'm a Red Wing fan so I'm going to be biased in that I like how they call the game most of the time. However, I can certainly see why others wouldn't.

He rates the St Louis Blues and the Phoenix Coyotes broadcasts as 4 stars, those are the worst broadcast teams in the NHL. Bernie Federko and Tyson Nash are the worst color guys in the league, I'd take 3 Pierre McGuires over them anyday of the week.
Then we got TERRY CRISP AND WHATS HIS f***IN NAME AS A 5 STAR BROADCAST TEAM. These guys are a disgrace to the game, there boring rants, awful voices and all around no knowledge of hockey whatsoever. (Actually, Crisp is an intelligent hockey mind, but an awful broadcaster) Makes me sick.
Daniels is one of the best broadcasters in the league, Murph and Mickey are funny and insightful. Homers? Sure, a bit, but every announcer for a team is a homer. Kinda theref****** job you morons, and they are one of the better home broadcasts in the league. f*** this list, the writer knows nothing about broadcast journalism, or for that matter, hockey.

That is, quite frankly, the worstf****** list I've ever seen. As an aspiring broadcaster, that makes me embarrassed that someone is allowed to comment and rate broadcasters when he has no clue about the subject at hand.

Please post this on his board. I couldn't agree more.

NBC has went the route of trying to hire non-homer announcers. This is why you will never see Mick and Ken on NBC. This is also why you won't see Ken Daniels ever doing a Red Wings game on Versus or NBC for that matter. I will say of all the announcers, Doc Emerick has to be one of the most unbiased announcers that NBC could find. Note I said "find" because I am sure there are others out there that may be better. Every fan of their team likes their announcers and wants to hear the bias in the play calling. Every Wings fan loves Ken and Mick and it doesn't surprise me to hear fans wanting them to do nationally televised games or stick up for them when dumb ass fans of other teams degrade them.Ken Daniels and Micky Redmond should be on NBC
Personally, I think the CBC has got it right when it comes to announcers. Their announcers are even less biased than the NBC/Versus announcers are. I would love to hear Gord Miller do a few games on NBC and Versus.
