For some reason I can see it being Ozzie.. I was really thinking it would go the other way but I feel like re-signing Joey is a precursor to them going with Ozzie again so they once again have Joey as a back-up plan.

As much as I love Ozzie I really feel like it's time to go in a different direction. I hate to see Ozzie go out like this but he's so inconsistent and injury prone now that I don't feel like he is worth the risk, especially if something happens to Howard. I don't wanna imagine Howie getting injured and Ozzie having to carry the team down the stretch in a playoff push at this stage of his career.

The best goalie available, Ray Emery. When his injury history looks golden compared to Ozzie, you know it's an incredible risk to think about bringing Ozzie back. I love the guy, he's my favorite goalie of all time, but it's time to move on.

This is why he's a great choice for the back up. If healthy, he would be able to step in and carry the team because of his experience.

I don't disagree that if 100% healthy and if he's at the top of his game he could step in and carry the team with his experience. But those seem like pretty big "ifs" to be taking a chance on at this point, especially with other options still available.

Very true. I know I have my blind optimism and belief that Osgood can do anything he sets his mind to. I still think a healthy Ozzie could challenge Howard for #1, even though Babcock would never let that happen.

Just throwin this out there, but if you are gonna have such a blind optimism for Osgood then you should probably change your name to something that reflects it so we will all know how you feel.

My optimism is not blind. Osgood is the best option to lead the team to the cup if Howard goes down unless there is a trade. I don't see anything that suggest there is such a trade available to us.

His groin was fixed. Sports medicine is really good, and it made him ready to practice last year but the team wouldn't chance it. There is no reason to assume that it won't work for him now.

Conks wouldn't make me mad, Emery would. A trade would make me mad as well unless it was a really big fleece job on another team. We don't need to spend any assets for a goalie, especially with Osgood and Larsson sitting right there.

I would take Osgood, Larsson, Conks in that order.

I really just think Larsson is a worth developing,Osgood is worth letting him finish, but if you are going to kick him to the curb it should be for developing an asset.

Conklin is not an asset, nor is he proven to be a playoff guy. I don't think he will be a liability, but I just don't think he is the best choice.

He is better than any other option via a signing though, and that is better than a trade.

I completely agree, but the problem is that Larsson (as it seems so many euro players do now?) blabbed to the media and made Kenny look bad. He'd probably already be signed if he had his ego in check.

Ozzie wins the backup spot if he can go the distance. I'm no doctor, so I have no idea if he can. We could assume the specialists gave Kenny a big fat question mark about Ozzie for this to all be up in the air at this point.

Nor do I, lol. Although, I think Emery is probably the "strongest" goalie out there in the FA market based on talent. At this point I wouldn't mind a trade for a solid back-up.

I don't see Kenny dealing with the Isles due to the way things went down, but I still wouldn't mind seeing Nabby here... maybe Hudler for Nabby and a pick? and to those who spout off, yes, Hudler is worth more than Nabby straight up, Nabby is 37, has been away from NHL hockey for over a year and had a pretty bad showing at the Worlds, so his stock isn't that high right now and Hudler is still young enough, that he could regain form... this would also help NY add salary, which they need to get to the floor...

I would rather keep Hudler, just because Nabs never was a great playoff goalie, and Garth Snow is a tool.

A. He wouldn't need to be, Howard is our starter, but this is moot anyway, because:

B. Nabby has been STELLAR in the playoffs, it's the teams in front of him that haven't been... this is CuJo mentality BIG time...

Career playoff numbers:

80GP 40W 38L 2.29GAA .913SV% 7SO

I will agree on your second part though, yes, Garth Snow is a tool...

Would be content with Ozzie (if healthy), Nabby, and or Conklin.

Unfortunately for Ozzie, there isn't a way to prove he'll stay healthy. He's played in just 35 games over the past two years. I would love to have him back, but the durability doesn't appear to be there and Howard can't play 75 games and be ready for the playoffs.

A. If Howard gets hurt, then he would have to start. If he doesn't then Osgood would be just as good.

B. 40W 38L that says it all. Losses are high, he doesn't win cups.

Osgood? 129 GP 74 Wins 49 Losses 2.09 GAA .916SV% 15 Shutouts

Yeah, so the numbers don't really impress me as much.

C. Don't really want to get into any argument over Osgood, or the teams in front of both these guys.

I will be the first to say that the Sharks had a ton of really crappy under performers in the playoffs, with no clutch skills. However, the Wings have looked like that the last couple of playoffs. That is, they don't look hungry. Nabokov has been around that, so I wouldn't want to trade resources to acquire him. Sort of the way I wouldn't trade to acquire Detroit Lions. Might sign one, but never trade for it. Right Dallas?

Well, if everyone is so worried about health... Why not sign Osgood, and trade for Nabs later if he doesn't work out?

Osgood's numbers are good as well... and as I've already stated, if his health wasn't as big of a concern, I'd be all for bringing him back... that's a bad example, if anything it just proves my point...

Hudler has 1 year on his deal, Nabby has one year on his deal, we need a backup, NY needs scoring and cap to hit the floor... it makes sense.

Also, this isn't the NFL, trades in the NHL are a COMPLETELY different animal, so that's a poor comparison too...

I have zero idea where you're going with this...

That is correct, although DiPietro will probably be out for the season by week 2 anyway :hehe:

As I've said all along, I'm not in the Hudler hater majority and think he could still very well turn it around, he just seems like the most likely trade candidate and would fill a couple needs of NY
