Well there it is... thanks for the translation and input...

If nothing else, that is a piss poor attitude and makes me not want him in that locker room, but I still think that we should at least trade him to a team where he can get a shot, especially if we can get an asset in return...

TBH, I don't give a s*** about giving a shot to someone that rips teammates or guys that have done more in their careers than he'll likely ever come close to in his. All I care about is the last part of what you stated, I'd like to get an asset in return if he's not part of our future plans. That be case, get someone who is...but there's still time for that given his contract status.

I don't follow on the relevance? Are they dating or something?

I assume he was referring to the fact that they're both goalies in their respective sports.

Exactly, it's not so much giving him a shot for his sake, but just for the fact that, on the ice, he's proven he's ready... that alone should be good enough for us to, at least, be able to get a mid level pick in return...

Goalie comparison - kind of a reach, but fair enough.

I second the skepticism of Aftonbladet for what it's worth. Players are just more candid with the Swedish media than they are here in the US and Aftonbladet can really run with it at times. I don't have any examples offhand so hopefully the Swedish fans on here can back me up but even Lidstrom has said some things to Aftonbladet that would make you think, "Hmm... Did he really say that?"

And the Hope Solo comment was in regards to her outspokenness about how much better she would've been in 2007/8 (?) than the goalie they started against Brazil. She actually ended up alienating her teammates. Larsson's unwise statement of "I wiped the floor with Jimmy Howard" was said in kind of the same spirit/attitude. But again, Hope Solo is hot. :hehe:

I think you're being a bit harsh. These aren't kids (at least they aren't paid like kids). This is newpaper info (from a reportedly somewhat sketchy news source) from thousands of miles away from the locker room. It's not like he tweeted it, or it was published on MLive, etc. Hell, you're bothering with getting people to translate it.

You don't get to be the best without thinking it (regardless of how humble you are in the press).

I'll worry about his opinions of his teammates when it becomes a problem on the ice or in the locker room.

Fair enough, but how do we know that he and Jimmy don't have a problem with one another IN the locker room and this is why we haven't seen him already? Taken out of context or not, that's not the way you talk about someone you LIKE...

My point I'm getting at, is, if we're not going to play him, we should trade him... he has nothing left to prove at lower levels...

ahhhh, ok, that makes the comparison make a LOT more sense... I don't follow soccer, so I wasn't aware of her comments, but I will agree that she's pretty easy on the eyes :)

This is 'win win" for Joey and the Wings.

I really wanted Theo, but after Jose Theodore was picked up by Flordia, I couldnt really see a RFA that could fit here without a huge cap hit! I like it

Both Ansar Khan and Helene St. James are reporting this is a 3rd string signing.

Freep - Helene St. James

"He's going to be our third guy," general manager Ken Holland said.

MLive - Ansar Khan

General manager Ken Holland said he still is seeking a backup for Jimmy Howard.

Helene St. James seems more optimistic about Osgood's chances, however both articles make it sound like Holland will most likely be looking elsewhere.

This signing makes me think Kenny might actually be leaning towards Osgood, which is why he signed the insurance policy, which I am VERY hesitant of coming off of such a serious injury for a goalie and at his age as well... I love Ozzie and wanted him to go out on his own terms, but I don't think he's a better option than some of the guys still available... groin injuries are no joke, especially for goalies, ESPECIALLY for goalies who are 38...

Before Osgood, I would rather, in this order, see our backup be:

Conklin

Larsson

Leclaire

I wouldn't mind Conklin, but Larsson has no NHL experience and Leclaire is more injury prone than Ozzie at this point. In any case, if Osgood is the backup then I'm fine with it knowing that the newly re-signed Joey MacDonald can handle the backup role if need be.

As long as that 'bang' isn't the sound of his groin snapping. ;):unsure::ph34r::scared:

If they do indeed go this route (which I am starting to think KH is leaning towards), I will pull for Ozzie and won't lament the move, it just scares me a little... but like I said, I would be very happy if he went out with a bang...

Pascal Leclaire looks like swiss cheese IMO. His best years were in Columbus, and that was miles ago.

Any idea about Mathieu Garon? Martin Gerber?

Conks would be excellent, but who knows what's up with him.

I personally think its a good move by Ken.

I read they worked it to be 2 way the first year and a 1 way in the second year of the contract.

Also that they are still looking for a back up and have gotten at least one trade offer sheet featuring a goaltender.

This leaves me to believe they are going to take a chance on an older guy (Oz) or someone like Emery or Nabokov for a year.

I like Mac. He can be pretty solid in net when we need him. Great #3 that might make a push for the back up spot throughout the season.

Who here has noticed the fact that despite Joey's play last year, he didn't get the backup job he was looking for?

This means he came back to Detroit willing to accept the same role if necessary, hoping for more if possible.

Likely also means Ozzie is the choice, because it means he'll be in Grand Rapids and one of Pearce of McCollum (probably McCollum) will be in Toledo.

It's looking like Osgood will be back. I think Kenny has already made up his mind. What is Osgood going to tell him that he already hasn't told him? 'Yeah my groin is fine. I feel great. I can play.' He's likely already given Kenny all the medical reports. The Wings medical staff has likely already examined him. Osgood is the ideal back-up provided he can actually play more than a few games without aggravating the groin again. At his age, it's pretty easy to do that when you have already had problems with it. He may feel great now but it's different once he actually gets into game action. Joey Mac is insurance which tells me that Kenny has already decided to keep Osgood. Conklin worked well with Osgood but who knows if he would work just as well with Howard. Conklin seems like a good guy with a solid reputation. But Osgood has been very good for Howard's development. Especially the mental aspect. The ability to forget about bad goals and play well after. My gut says that Osgood will get injured again but I guess you can say that about any player.

Between what people are saying on here and other sites I'm still a little confused on this signing. Wouldn't it have just been easier to sign Osgood or Conklin. Not that I mind this signing I just thought Joey Mac was gone. Sure it's great to have a depth signing but this still doesn't resolve who the DETROIT RED WINGS Back-up is going to be. Is this a way Kenny H is saying that they may have MacDonald as our back-up goalie next season and that he is comfortable with him as a back-up? I mean I know it's a two-way deal the first season but after that he may come up. Does this mean we are going with Ozzie again and we know he's only signing a one-year deal. I personally would think that if the Wings were still going to sign Conklin it could be for more than one year and than that would put us in a goalie jam next season. Don't get me wrong Ozzie has be a great goalie for this team for many years but at 38 and with the injuries he's endured over the season's can we say as fans we are comfortable with Ozzie coming a back one more season. Put semtiments aside and look at this from a business and a sucess side and really ask yourselves if Conklin or Osgood is the better choice. I'd say Conks.

Also a lot of people are saying that this could be our last season for a while to have a real shot at the Cup. Can we honestly say that this is a team right now that can really contend for a Championship. I have faith in my team but we really haven't gotten that much stronger really IMO. I guess more or less it sucks to be a fan and play this waiting game not knowing what the immediate future of this team is going to be. I was hoping to have our back-up goalie issue solved by now, every day we wait is another chance for teams to offer players we might be interested in a bigger better contract leaving us on the short end of the stick. It seems like next season may be a better season for the Wings to have a shot at the Cup becasue the team will probably be going through a small overhaul once Liddy leaves and that's going to mean bring up players from GR that are ready and bringing some other big name players to take the place of guys leaving.

Three different reliable sources have said that MacDonald was signed as a third-stringer. One of them is Jim Nill.
