Chris Osgood announces retirement

Wow the amount of cynicism in the Wings fan base is amazing. At the beginning of this thread, almost everybody was bashing him for coming back. Now that he's retiring its all, "Amazing career! Thanks for everything!" No wonder goalies have it rough here. Jeez.

Well, I have always liked Ozzie and was upset when he was let go. Glad to see he went out as one of the top 10 goalies of all time! HHOF is where he belongs and to be honest... I think the #30 belongs up next to #19. He has been a corner stone in 3 of 4 cups, and almost got us another in '09. As a Wing he has outdone almost every goaltender that has came and gone. I can't wait to see what he does next and will miss him dearly.

Congrats on an outstanding career Ozzie. :siren: :siren: :siren::clap:

personal attacks for expressing my opinion on the osgood retirement?

i didn't even say anything bad about him.

Your post was the equivalent of saying "Good riddance, go f*** yourself." If you think that's acceptable, that's your problem. The rest of us shouldn't have to deal with it.

Even worse is this is the only sentiments this guy ever has, negative troll-esk stuff.

Kudos to your statement. The rest of us shouldn't have to deal with it? Is there a banhammer to be had?

Even his name is offensive. Extremely offensive. This is no coincidence.

I think #30 should be in the rafters too. I don't know what else he needs to do.

Damn, I'll miss having Ozzie in the net. This is a guy who was so loyal to the Wings he was willing to turn down offers to be a starter for other teams to come back to Detroit for no guarantees other than to be a backup at best. If that kind of loyalty isn't rewarded with some kind of big Chris Osgood Night, it'll be a travesty, but I'm not worried, the organization will definitely do what's right by him. Can't wait for his HOF induction in a few years.

It's hard watching so many players from those 90s teams that made me fall in love with hockey go. Thanks for the memories, Ozzie.

That's how I feel about it. Watching tribute videos today was like watching childhood memories. A lot of my favorite memories growing up were being with my family and going nuts over the Wings. When these players retire, it's as much about those times as anything.

Thanks for a lot of great memories.

You deserved every bit of your response.

It may have been time for to move on, pretty much everybody here gets that. It's all about the delivery though. And your delivery was awful, bascially like a "See ya wouldn't want to be ya" response disrespecting a guy who accomplished so much here and accomplished so much while getting ragged on by his own fanbase, regardless of whether you like him or not. So you should not be shocked one bit at some of the negative responses you got back.

Not that hard to understand. Think about it for a bit.

Given the Hall's tendency to vote "Forward-Forward-Defenseman-Goaltender" over the past few years, so long as there are deserving players, Osgood should make it in on the first ballot. Only two retired goaltenders even come close to Osgood's accomplishments; Tom Barrasso and Curtis Joseph. Joseph's lack of any significant playoff achievements, and Osgood's advantage over Barrasso in career performance gives Osgood an edge, assuming those two aren't voted in before Osgood becomes eligible. With 454 wins, Joseph has a pretty strong case there. Barrasso has a Vezina, Calder, and two Cups plus a good number of wins himself. So both could be in the Hall before 2014.

I never liked ozzy as a player growing up, but after meeting the man 2 years ago i have to say he is about the best person you would ever hope to meet in a unprofessional setting. With that said i have had the last 2 years of watching his story and age unfold infront of my eyes and watch a good man face retirement. Thank you for the years chris and hope you return with some sort of role with the franchise. I actually switched my jersey # from 29 which i have had since i was 7years old to #30 this season:)

What a career, I can't believe it really, no more #30. With that awesome stance, as the camera caught him skating around his crease with shoulders slanted one side almost slightly. Head down, looking intently. Going over the game in his head.

Osgood thank you for all the memories. I'm truly a little tearful this day is here. We love you. We will never forget what memories you have given us Red Wings fans. We know you ignored the off-ice nonsense, and bled Detroit red all your career. Thank you Ozzie!!
