You were my first hockey hero growing up and although i'm an adult, I still look up to you. As usual, you put the team before yourself and chose to end your HHOF career at a time that was not only appropriate for you, but most appropriate for the Detroit Red Wings. I'm not sure what the future holds for you, but know you are a Red Wing for life. I will make sure my kids know of the Great Wizard of Oz, how you could bring the Joe to a roar with every save, and how you knocked that POS Roy ON HIS ASS!
Enjoy your retirement Ozzie, you deserve it!
Edit: reading my post brings a tear to my eye. We will miss you Ozzie.

This.Even though the 2011-12 Wings may be better off with a healthy back up goalie I have to admit this is upsetting. Some times you take for granted these players and what they accomplish. He was a massive part of the success the Wings organization achieved over the last 20 odd years and he deserves far more credit than he'll probably ever get.
Thank you so much for everything, Ozzie. We owe a lot to you and you will be missed.

Thanks for the memories

Sucks I never got to see him play in person. I gotta get to a game this year and see Nick play before he retires as well.
I was there for what should have been #400. That's okay, though.
Happy to have seen him play. My fiancee's YL Ozzie CCM will have to get special treatment now, haha.

As I sit here in my office typing this, I look around at all the Stanley Cup Championship newspapers and autographs that I have and none and I mean NONE of this would have been possible without this guy in net. Sure, Vernie won 1997, and Dom in 2002 but whenever the Wings needed a win, Ozzie always steped up to the plate. I gave this guy soooo much s*** throughout his career and he always made me eat crow.
I sure hope that Ozzie realizes how much the fans of the Detroit RedWings love him and I will miss him not being in net, but I will never forget the memories this "baby faced" goalie gave me as a Wings fan.
If Ozzie is not in the Hall of Fame soon, than the NHL has failed. Thanks again Ozzie! You deserve it!!

Glad to see he is staying on with The Wings in a mentoring capacity.

Oh no, he's still here.
But you have to admit that when Nick and Homer are gone, we will truly be at the end of an era.
Indeed. As Agatha Christie would have said "And then there were three"

You will always be the rightful owner of the 2009 Conn Smythe Trophy no matter how hard Malkin's name is engraved on it.
Finally Bedard gets fulltime help with the mentalics of the Wings' young goalies, no man is more suited to that job than Osgood! Here's to Osgood fixing McCollum's mental problem and make him chase Osgood's legacy.
Should have been one more year rectifying the last two seasons and going out with a Stanley Cup bang, but the decision has been made - - happy retirement and enjoy the family time!

What a great 14 years with the Red Wings! We will always remember you! Not a bad career... 400+ wins, 3 stanley cups... A future HOFer in my book!
Good Luck in your retirement, you earned it!
Thank You #30!
And he scored a goal too!
