Bold predictions for the year!

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

1. Darren Helm scores at least 20 Goals.

2. Jiri Hudler is sent to Grand Rapids.

3. Kronwall becomes the new Raffy.

4. Jimmy Howard gets nominated for the Jennings trophy.

5. Ken Holland will trade for a top-4 D-Man at the deadline.

6. Commodore becomes the new semi-Darren McCarty.

7. Dareen McCarty comes back to the Organization somehow.

8. Abby will have 30-35 points.

9. Tatar and Smith come up somewhere during the season.

10. Ty Conklin will start around 20-25 games as Howard's back up.

The Jennings trophy is given to the goalie whose team has the fewest goals against. It is not something that is voted on. I think that you mean the Vezina.

Wings have 20 fighting majors.

Hudler will have 50 points.

Abby will have 30 points.

CBJ will make the make/miss the playoffs by ~4 points.

If the Wings make a big trade, Franzen will be included.

Now THAT'S bold...

Hudler scores 30 goals?

And that's even bolder!

No one can replace Raffi but I think that Kronner can fill Raffi's shoes pretty well.

Right now, I think he can do a good job with it. And that judgment is only based on Kronner's past performance.

However, Kronner now knows that with Rafi gone, he is the new "#2" dman and chances are that he'll have the most TOI on the team this year. He knows that he has to really step up because the Wings really, really need him now. When you consider that as well as all the press Kronner has been getting about being a better, more vocal leader on the bench, then it's not that unfathomable to think that he can do a great job filling in for Rafi, if not do a slightly better job.

I'm more concerned about replacing Kronwall's production when he was a #3 dman than Rafalski's. Based on his contract, I'm thinking that it better be Ericsson. Or that he better take some giant steps this year offensively.

1. Darren Helm is probably not going to score 20 goals in this or any other season. If we're talking 20 goals based on 1993 scoring rates, sure. But that's like 15 goals this year.

2. Jiri Hudler is not going to be sent to Grand Rapids. If the Wings waive him, he's off to a team that needs another scoring forward and never makes it to the 'assignment' part.

3. Kronwall is going to lose his defensive and physical abilities, and go bald?

4. It hurts. It hurts so much. Why must you do this to me?

5. Seems like a reasonable thought. Except for one thing; what assets are given up? Holland won't be giving up any significant assets unless the defenseman is more than a rental. Which severely limits options and the chance of a deal.

6. He'll be a very mediocre player who has one iconic moment in his time with the team, and many fans clamor for his jersey to be retired because of it?

7. McCarty will be back to teach Commodore how to deal with all of his newfound fame as the expendable superstar?

8. Abby making 30-35 is pretty bold. It's not impossible, but he's in a situation where the only reasons he wasn't fourth line all year last year were injuries and the fact that Helm's line had great chemistry. He's less likely to get those offensive chances this year, with Hudler back on track and a speedier, more talented Mursak ready to go.

9. The sun will rise tomorrow. Seriously.

10. Conklin will start closer to 35 games. Howard's workload is going to start looking like what Ozzie used to carry in the 90s, otherwise he won't have anything for the playoffs. Ever notice that throughout history, a lot of great teams ran tandems? Edmonton did, Pittsburgh did, Detroit did, Montreal did, Toronto did. Historically running with a tandem has assisted the starting goaltender's playoff performance.

Another prediction from me....

-Eva will continue to misunderstand that to be really bold, a prediction must look to be impossible & he will continue to s*** on everyone else's postings, especially the ones that mention Hudler

OK, this prediction is in no way "bold" given that it is based totally on past performance in this thread

Bold prediction: Geography teachers will worry themselves silly about the confusion it will cause when the SCF involves Winnipeg from the East and Detroit from the West. Students will not notice anything ironic, despite the fact that Doc Emerick will explain the situation in dramatic, yet condescending fashion before, during, and after every single game of the Finals.

The new NHL realignment will see campbell and wales conferences instead of east and west. Wings become the first team I can think of that has won both the prince g wales and Campbell cups.

The Wings have won 13 Prince of Wales trophies and 6 Campbell bowls. The Flyers have 4 and 6, and the Blackhawks 2 and 5, respectively.

- Helm gets 40 points with 20 goals

- Datsyuk stays healthy and has a breakout season, scoring 100+ points and 35 goals

Franzen's career high is 59 and he has only cleared 50 points one other time in his career, being last season. Given his age, injury history, and performance over the past couple of years I would call 50 points a "good" season. A "bad" season based on his past couple years would be 25 or 30 points. Of course this is LGW, where Franzen is expected to put up *another* 40 goal season, despite never having done it before.

Also, if you are saying Smith beats out Commodore for the 7th defenseman, he's still in the press box. Which keeps him in Grand Rapids. So I'm going to assume you meant the #6 spot. And given the roles on the team, it's likely Smith would also have to beat out Ericsson or White for time to make the jump directly into the lineup this year.

Notice that the thread title says 'bold' predictions? That's what I did. And I guess I'm wrong about Franzen I'll change that to 40 pts.

God, why do you need to s*** on everyone elses predictions so much?

Franzen's career high is 63 points. In 2010 Franzen had 21 points in 27 games, so by your math over an 82 game season he would've scored 63.7 points (I rounded down). So his last three seasons he's actually averaged around 60 points.

Don't forget that one game where the Mule scored 5 goals. Using that game as a sample size, he is projected to get about 410 goals a season, which seems pretty reasonable to me. He wasn't even on a line with Datsyuk that game! Imagine if he was, I think he could easily have a 1000 goal season.

Edit: Finishing second in points behind Hudler, naturally.

Bold eh?

3. The Wings will have 3 times more 5 min fighting majors this year compared to last.

3x0 is stil zero.. oh wait, Pavel had that one major...

(tongue in cheek.. firmly... )

4. Holland sits on his 6M in cap space all year and does nothing major at the deadline.

(given - tongue still firmly in cheek)

7. Babcock finally wins the Jack Adams award.

Seriously now.. I get the year Trotz got it but where has Bab's recognition gone? This has been a minor annoyance for me for years. Yes, he's got the team to do it every year but why doesn't he get recognized?

8. I finally get to the Joe

If you get the chance, DO IT, it's probably the best road-trip of my life.. and make sure to hit the downtown bars and whatnot after.
