Crosby's 2012 Season now in Question

Unfortunately it's the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the Role Model Hall of Fame. What he does with his hockey skill set will determine whether or not he gets in, not whether he whines or dives.

Exactly.

If it were based on the conduct in every aspect of a players life, there'd be at least a few players that wouldn't have made it in. Certainly not Ciccarelli. And Chelios would never make it in.

I hope he comes back. There's nothing better than beating your rival when they have no excuses. If Crosby is gone, I'll lose a lot of hate for the Pens. And it can be just as fun to root against a team as it is to root for a team.

So hurry back Sid, and may you find yourself running into a KronWall soon.

Crap I just wrote a long response and the kitten hit refresh on the keyboard.

So here is the abridged version.

Many writers believe class counts for something in getting into a hall of fame. I believe fame should be dependent upon how they hold themselves as a person.

He dives, he whines, he acts in a way that if my son did that I would scold him. He does things that non-marquee players would be called cheaters for... It isn't all on him, it is the superstar culture but he does act poorly, especially for a hockey player.

Do I think that will keep him out? No.

It might if he retires now. Also he really hasn't the numbers to get in, the reverse Osgood argument.

I put it this way.

Hypothetically, if he plays 10 more years and because of his concussion he has balance issues that lead to him never getting more than 30 pts again. Would he get in the hall with 16 years and about 900 pts?

I don't think he does. Based on that rational, I don't think he gets in if he were to retire now. His entire career, albeit impressive, is not complete therefore you wouldn't bestow that lock upon him. That is all I was saying about your statement about him being a lock no matter what happens. I think it premature.

Honestly, I will use every argument used against Osgood and others because I only think it fair to be consistent. I might be wrong about him being a lock, but that is my viewpoint.

I am however quite confident that beyond skill, there is nothing impressive about Crosby as a human being and I dislike his attitude. That should count for something when there are people looking up to him.

I think your views of him as a person are pretty skewed and mostly based on what year hear people saying (whether there is anything to back it up or not). I'd challenge you to spend a week following him around everywhere and actually get to know what the guy is all about and then come back and tell me what you think about the guy as a person, his character, etc.

That's not totally true. Haven't we seen it where even other hockey players were saying he whines a lot and we have seen the diving first hand. those are people that do know him fairly well so i would say Majsheppard has a fairly close assessment of him from everything from what fans have seen and players alike. Although I do feel he was thrown into it a little too fast being the so called "face" of the nhl and all before any nhl games were played. I is hard on a young kid sometimes to be thrown into something like that too early.

I will guarantee you probably a majority of fans think otherwise about Maltby. He was a type of player that was easily hated if you weren't a fan of the team he played on. Just like most here probably think of Crosby.

The thing is, if Crosby was a Red Wing, he wouldn't have the personality/attitude issues that he does, the team wouldn't stand for it. So that analogy doesn't really work. For it to work, you'd have to assume that Crosby the Red Wing would be the same whiny, petulant brat as Crosby the Penguin.....and we know that ain't true.

So yeah, if Crosby was a Red Wing, everyone here would love him. Not only would he still have the talent, but he wouldn't be an insufferable jackass.

And misses, then blames it on the officiating claiming he was slewfooted by a passing basset hound.

*looks in corner*

*sees two-year-old basset hound sleeping*

*wonders what he does when the rest of us are sleeping*

Maltby was a total ******. The only thing was that he was OUR ******, and we loved him. He was always stirring s***, being a pest, running his mouth, but never actually backed his words by dropping his gloves.

I love Maltby, but to say he wasn't a ****** is a dis-service to his career of douchebaggery.

Malts was my favorite player, but this post is spot on. If you want to laugh until you cry, you need to hear this post in your head with the right voice. Think James Earl Jones, or the NFL Films narrator. Well done, good sir.

Unfortunately, threads like this show why Dipwad Gary is a marketing genius. We all hate Crys-by. I wouldn't piss on him if his hair was on fire. And yet...the punk hasn't seen the ice in 6 months and we still can't stop talking about him.

Guest stinky fish taco

it's pretty pathetic that some of you would wish to see one of the best point producers and most talented players in the nhl never step on the ice again just because you're still bitter about a SCF loss a few years ago.

all this talk about his "character" make it seem like he's sean avery.

get a grip.

also, LOL at maltby "not being a ******". talk about homer-goggles at their worst.

Your posts make me laugh. So funny.

As for Crosby's "GREAT" character what do you say about other players in the league saying the same thing that has been said here about how he acts or conducts himself?

I can't believe I'm coming down on the side of stinky fish taco, but he never said anything about Crosby having "GREAT" character. His point was that with the way people talk about him here you'd think he acted like Sean Avery. And he's nowhere near that kind of idiotic behavior.

What players in the league? Do you have links to all this Crosby bashing? The only criticisms I remember is from geniuses like Adam Burish. And some Russian players supporting Ovechkin. And maybe some stuff early on in his career, mostly the first season.

Like I said, he has some sort of douchey quality that makes him easy to hate, but in terms of what I've actually seen him do on the ice or in interviews, he's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. He's whined in the past. He's dove a handful of times that I've seen. His repeated crosschecks on Zetterberg deserved a beatdown. But all that is hardly unprecedented in hockey and he's not the worst offender of any of it. Most of it seems like hate because of how good he is and how sick we all are of him being the NHL posterboy.

After this last season, it'd be hard for anyone to beat the Sedins for whining, crying, and diving (at least among star players).

:hysterical: You got a -2 and I got a -5 for the comments about this! I wonder if we got negged because of the subject matter or the fact that most sheeple are walking down that narrow hallway?

You got negged because tinfoil hat conspiracy theory gobbledegook doesn't belong in General Discussion, and it has nothing to do with the thread's subject matter, IMO. Go start a thread about it in the WC or in Political Discussion if it's something that you think is worth conversating over.

Off topic, but what is that man in the background doing, and to whom?

I think, instead of using multiple claps to make the .gif, they just used one. The guy in the background is walking to the right, and backs up a step when the image restarts.

He's clearly working on his breakdancing, getting ready for the 80s dance upcoming at Arkham. Next he's going to helicopter, and maybe even moonwalk.

It's mostly in nhl player polls that have ask the question to the players "Which player complains the most on the ice?" and so on. And crosby wins by wide margins most all the time. I would have to look them up but i have seen them. He gets hated because how good he is? Thats used a lot in defending him. my hate is more along the lines of im tired of seeing him and having him rammed down my throat when there are players all over the league that should be pushed as well. To pick one player out of so many great players and make a poster child out of him in a sport like hockey where fans are so passionate about their own team you will get a ton of strong hate for that said player no matter how good he is. I just think they messed up when picking one person to try and sell hockey. I think thats why they started pushing the whole crosby vs ovechkin thing because they started seeing how much hate crosby was getting. But as far as wishing him ill will im not even about that. I hope he does play. That would totally suck to go out like that with that much skill and being so young. Oh and i don't want any excuses for the pens fans when we beat the snot out of them hehe :D

Crosby was voted 'biggest' whiner in a poll of his peers a couple of years ago.

Please look up the results of these polls and share them with us. There is a big difference between complaining to officials on the ice and having bad character or being a bad person/poor role model. Yzerman complained with the best of them and I think most would hold him in high regard as a human being.

Just to give another example, similar player polls show players "RESPECT" Crosby way more than Ovechkin...what does that mean?

Player polls saying he's the biggest whiner and then seeing him over and over and over. And yes although small he does dive...he does cross check, slew foot...and so on just adds up to joe fan of other teams. That was the argument. Like i said in my other post. My hate for him has nothing to do with his skill or what ever. I'm just tired of seeing him and not seeing other great stars plastered on the tv and rep'n the nhl more.

Did they have player polls when yzerman played and how many times did he win the biggest whiner by his peers? Yzerman was pretty much respected in all aspects of the game so thats a non argument. Theres a difference in complaining and just flat out whineing.
