First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please move it to the correct one if someone can.

Secondly, in October I shall be in Tampa, my first trip to the US and thought I'd take in my first NHL game as well. I think I'm heading to see Tampa face the Islanders (was going to be the Sabres but my girlfriend's cousin is at college during the week, so we're not able to), and I'm sure I'll love it even if it isn't the Wings. Have no fear though, I shall still represent and wear the Winged Wheel proudly in the St Pete.

The main thing however, is wondering how I could somehow get Stevie to sign my jersey (was thinking of asking him to sign under a big 'C' to the right of the logo), or if it's even possible to get a GM to do it? I understand players are a bit easier, but now Stevie is part of the management I don't know how I'd go about getting my opportunity.

Safe to say, this trip might be my only chance to get an autograph for a long time, I don't even know the next time I'll be heading across to the US, let alone to watch some hockey. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with GMs.

Any help would be incredibly useful, and I really can't wait to get over there! Thanks

Try emailing the management or even calling and telling them of your opportunity. Seeing as you're not from the states, you might be able to get away with asking them if you can mail them the item if you really wanted the autograph. Otherwise, you might be SOL unless you try to run into him at some point.

Sit by the pressbox/owner's box and try to get his attention?

By far, the approach I would take.

I did this at The Joe and got Nick (when he was injured) and Steve's autograph. However, plan your tactical approach with those pesky ushers in mind. I had to dodge and creep to get into the seats directly below (seats were empty) the Wings management. Once that was done, during a TV timeout, I stood up and looked up into the box and said hello to both Nick and Steve. I said that I knew they were working, but would they ever sign a shirt I had. Both smiled and said "Sure!...no problem". After Nick signed, Steve signed. But at that point my cover was blown and an usher virtually ran over to me to stop the interaction. Too late :P As the usher got about five feet from me looking furious, I looked up at Steve and he was watching the whole thing with the usher and I, and had a huge mischevious smile on his face...looked at me and looked over at Nick and they both laughed. The usher then was escorting me toward the concourse with full intentions of running me from the arena. I turned to the usher and said "look buddy, I'm just a huge fan and no one was sitting in those seats, no one was hurt, and it was purposely done during a TV timeout...can you cut me a break? You won't see me again tonight". He had a pretty good grip on the arm of my shirt, but when we got down the steps and through the concourse curtain, he smiled and said "get out of my section and enjoy the rest of the game".

Nice, I love hearing stories where the players act like cool people. Hockey players really are the nicest pro athletes, or maybe we're just spoiled with a special group in Detroit.
