McCrimmon, Salei on board Russian plane crash

I don't want to read about this anymore, as it makes me sick just thinking about it, but I can't stop checking in here, reading the comments from players, coaches, etc around the hockey world... it's amazing how many lives were touched and subsequently devastated by the men on that plane and I can't help but get angry at a tragedy that could have and SHOULD have been prevented... the loss is too much...

sick avatar.

Thanks, just made it this afternoon. I am also working on a few other variations.

Also, reports are coming in that Galimov is able to talk and has cognitive ability. His condition appears stabilized for the time being. At least a little bit of positivity today.

Early speculation is that poor quality fuel contributed to this crash:

Sounds like cheap fuel may have been used and caused the engines to fail in their ability to reach a safe rotation (takeoff) speed.

You could not pay me enough to fly in Russia.

QFT

Russia is one of the world's leading producers of oil, there is no reason any Russian plane should ever have inferior fuel put in it. If I were a fan of the KHL, I would refuse to spend any money or watch any games until that league got it's priorities in order.

A team will be created using players off of other KHL rosters and will play in yaroslavl. The salary for players will still be paid by the original team (not Locomotiv). Not sure how I feel about this. It's a nice gesture by the other teams and players, but it's only been a day since the accident.

Reading about Kindl and his relationship with Ruslan was tough. In a way, Salei was that father figure for Kindl this past season. I think Salei was a great hockey player, but from what I've heard he was an even better family man. I just feel so sad knowing he just had a child who will never get to meet him.

Found this on nhl.com...

"When asked what needs to be done in order to move forward from Wednesday's tragedy...Datsyuk looked at his inquisitor with a blank stare and said, "pray".

There is more in the article...if you want to read it, it's at nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587971

It's entirely in Russian, and it's 34 minutes long. I cried through the whole thing.

I saw part of that from the clip posted earlier, and it got to me. I tried to watch your link with the whole ceremony, but only made it to just after 5:40 with the pause and close up, and got choked up. I'm out. I need a beer...

PROBERT/CHELIOS, SALEI... Do they need any more reasons to RETIRE #24... or at least stop using it?

The Ducks should at least consider taking it out of circulation. I know he didn't play with them last, but he's the franchise leader in games played for a defenseman. He was more closely a part of that franchise and community than any other.

I really don't have words to describe this or my feelings at the moment. But here is a little something I whipped up. You can tell where my original inspiration came from. (You'll have to forgive me, for some reason it won't let me post the picture, so I linked it.)

I have another version that I like a little more, again for some reason Im unable to have the graphic show on here so I will once again provide a link. I welcome any comments or ideas!

Always a nice memory of Salei.

This still seems so surreal..

Cant believe an off season as horrible as this one could ever be possible.

This might be sad on my end but part of me hopes that they all escaped the plane somehow and they're all having their own Lost series somewhere. Or that this is all just a practical joke. Because this is just unbelievable to me. Just like that a group of people are dead and their families are all left in mourning. It just sucks.

Russian officials calling for improved aviation safety. A bit late, wouldn't you say?

"The rules of aviation are written in the blood of dead men"

Having said that, Russia is far behind the west in terms of aviation safety, the rate of fatal accidents is 3 times the worldwide average. International Russian airlines are fine because they have to conform to western aviation standards, its the internal, domestic carriers that are the problem. Expect pilot error to be the official cause, its a favourite cop-out of the Russian authorities because it means they don't actually have to change anything.

Not sure if any of this was posted already..

Scott Walker says goodbye to Vasicek in 2007, not knowing it'll be the last time he sees him:

Some Canes staff members, like Staal and coach Maurice (who Wings fans should be pretty familiar with) also giving their say:

Im at a loss for words and have been for two days now.

I feel guilty being so happy that McCrimmon and Salei left the team. Being so caught up in the game and wanting to see the Wings better and wanting anyone gone that doesnt make a perfect Cup winning team blurred the line between players and real people that are on the ice or behind the bench.

I hated on Rusty cause he took off so many games to be with his pregnant wife. Its easy to fault him for that at the game level, who couldnt put the team first??? This has put it in persepective. I hope Salei's family especially his new born understands that he put his family before everything. He skipped everything for that little one and I got to hand it to him. A family man should be respected beyond all else cause in the end what else is there?

This has been such a f***ed up summer. I hope that what has happened is over. The biggest thing beyond wishing that 2nd world countries didnt have horrible planes is that the league and hopefully the US and CAN can find ways to stave off the liberal prescription and use of Oxycontin. Too many people have been prescribed it for injuries without any oversight to the use after the fact. Some people need it. If you can play in the NHL, YOU DO NOT NEED OXYCONTIN!!!.

I wish we could have just had the summer to do innocent thinfs like questioning trades or how the draft went but instead we hear about overdose, suicide and people dying doing their jobs.

I pray that this is it, no more death. This should be fun not mourning. My thoughts go to every person affected by the terrible loss in ?Russia as well as the tragic losses of players that died too early. May you all rest in peace. May all your families find peace.
