Too much bitching not enough support for the greatest team in America.

If you don't want a corporate sponsor, foot the bill then.
I don't think that's the issue, Konnan.
And what bill? The Wings have been making bank without a primary corporate sponsor for a decade.

Exactly. It is not a corporate issue. It's an Amway issue.
Snuggles presents the Detroit Red Wings, who are on a Hot n Juicy Power Play in the Third Period (brought to you by Sominex), here in the Fischer Price Arena? No problem.
I think enough people have harped on the fact that this is an AMWAY issue that people who are taking the issue as a generic sponsorship issue are either not paying attention or dodging the question purposely.

My money on the board pledge:
$1 for each goal scored by a player after whom I have named a hamster.
An additional $5 for each hat trick scored by a player after whom I have named a hamster.
An additional $10 if any of the above goals is the GWG goal that gives us the series win.
An additional $50 if it is the GWG that wins us the Cup.
$5 for a SO by Jimmy.
Hamsters' names (current players in RED): Henrik Pavel Tomas Nicklas Dominik
Niklas Matthieu Daniel Robert
Johan Andreas Valtteri Jonathan
Andrew Patrick Ian Todd
And introducing: Jordin Damien Gustav James
TOTAL SO FAR: $30

Or maybe some people just don't see an issue with it. If you hate Amway and want everything associated with it to die, then where were you 1996 when Jay Van Andel donated a significant chunk of change to help build Van Andel arena? I don't hear people bitching about that right now, and it seems everyone hear has ZERO issues with the Griffins playing in an arena named after the founder of Amway.

I'll be honest with you, Trey. Until I got on the internet, I paid zero attention to the Griffins. I was aware that they were there, but that's the extent of it. I had no idea who sponsored their arena, nor did I care. I also had no clue until this all came up that Van Andel was the name of the Amway guy (or one of them).Or maybe some people just don't see an issue with it. If you hate Amway and want everything associated with it to die, then where were you 1996 when Jay Van Andel donated a significant chunk of change to help build Van Andel arena? Where was I in '96? 3 states away, and still unaware that "cut and paste" and "mouse" could make sense in the same sentence (barring rodent taxidermy, of course).
I know a lot of people would prefer that the Wings play in an arena that reflects hockey. Howe Arena or something of that nature would be perfect. However, we're in an era of corporate sponsorship. They spend the money; they want their name on it. If you think about it, it's really nothing more than really expensive advertising for them- and really, really expensive advertising at that.
I think that even though a lot of us wish for a pure hockey name, we realize that it's not a fiscal likelihood.
What I'm seeing in this thread, and was alluding to in the text you quoted, is that the flow of the posts seems to indicate that some people are unaware that most of the dissension springs from the company itself rather than corporate naming in general.
Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I wasn't clear in the post you quoted. It just seems like the thread goes something like this:
Boo Amway!
Boo Amway!
Why are you against corporations?
It's not corporations, it's Amway.
Boo Amway!
Why are you against corporations?
It's not corporations, it's Amway.
Boo Amway!
Why are you against corporations?
It's not corporations, it's Amway.
Boo Amway!
Ad nauseum, ad infinitum.
It's true that some people have no issue with Amway, and others have issues with any corporate sponsorship, but it seems that this thread is going in circles with regard to what people are thinking that others are thinking. Either that or there are some people putting up strawmen.

Well it's no surprise really...Fox Sports Detroit has got the "Call Sam Studios"...What's worse - a pyramid scheme, or ambulance chasing attorneys?
