10/8 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 0

I just got home. It was a good time. The jersey retirement was cool to see, but not altogether very special. The crowd was in full-on "Red Wings suck!" mode. They even booed Lidstrom--"Lindstrom" in the Avs vernacular, as displayed on the video screen--when he appeared on the video with a shout-out to Forsberg. Anyway, I retaliated throughout the game by asking those Avs fans around me whom amongst the two teams had made the playoffs last year. When the Wings scored, I hit them with a "Who sucks now?" and managed to make a few of them pretty angry.

The Wings looked slow in the first, good in the second and dominant in the third. The crowd wasn't especially loud at any point, and the Avalanche fans became testy and restless in the third because of the Wings` constant possession of the puck.

Also of note is that the game was not sold out. Given that it was opening night and given that it saw the retirement of one of the Avs` greatest players, it struck me as pretty sad. Anyway, I had a good time.

The numbers don't lie. Perhaps colorado is next on the chopping block?

Only 147 replies? Yikes, you guys.

It does seem awful slow around here for the beginning of the regular season.

Anyhow, Conklin had a great game. Good to see him back. Our 3rd line looked great again. I'd like to see Bertuzzi stay on the 3rd line, simply because he's got a defined role playing with Helm and Abdelkader, that role being finishing his checks, skating hard on the backcheck, and playing responsible defensively, as well as occasionally chipping in offensively. Drew Miller is starting to grow on me. He looked solid again tonight, and at this point I don't think Babs should sit Miller in favor of Brunnstrom.

As far as the attendance in Denver tonight, I thought Ken and Mick mentioned it was sold out.

There were some soft penalty calls, especially where O'Brien got an interference for his little push on Cleary in front of the net. I know the call favored us, but wow. That's not what the game needs.

It's ironic that Forsberg talks about how his best times were "always beating the Red Wings", and those same Wings end up beating them 3-0 on the same night.

It was a funny comment, but I don't mind it blowing up in their fans faces.

Really excited to see the next game. I haven't been able to see the first two because of previous engagements but a 2-0 start is always great.

Nobody complains about Ericsson play?? 0_0 Anyway, he looked fine to me but still worse than Kindl (except his turn-over in 1st period). Stuart was the biggest disappointment last night.

Ericsson and Kindl are both looking good. Kindl leads the NHL plus-minus stats with +5 and Ericsson is 2nd with +4.

I agree with this.

Look at Hudler as well. The most popular whipping boy here on LGW. He has a goal and an assist and is playing solid.

If there is any room for improvement, its in the power play.

Stu looked terrible-like out of shape terrible. Let's hope he can get his feet moving. We can't afford for him to have a bad season.

The thing that has really stuck out at me over the last two games is team speed. With the loss of some older guys, and the addition of White, Emmerton, and Kindl this team looks a lot faster. The slowest guy is Bert, but even he looks like there's a little extra jump in his step.

I think this extra speed will really pay off. I think it will greatly reduce the time we spend in our own zone and add to our puck possession.

Even guys that are not known for their speed are moving their legs. The team as a whole looks very driven.

I agree with you, Stuart was in slow-motion mode.

Ericsson did alright. I wasn't impressed by him, but he didn't seem to make any huge mistakes.

Our win can be attributed to one main factor: Konker

Yeah, Stuie was not doing too well last night or Friday night. Right now, I'm not liking his pairing with Kronwall. With Kindl excelling, do you think Babs might eventually shift him to the 3rd line and move Kindl up to the 2nd?

I'm really liking the speed, as mentioned above, the team is showing right now. I hope it continues for the rest of the season. Plus, the infusion of a little more youth is definitely wearing off on some of the older guys, especially Bert, playing with Helm and Abby. I loved those set ups last night and Friday night created by the speed of Helm and Bert finding the right place to be at the right time. I can't wait to see more of that this season.

Just watched the game. Clearly dominated in the first 2 periods.

Defense played good though cleared the front, when they didnt conks was there.

I thought datsyuk was superb, his back checks were awesome

Mule can completely dominate with his hands and stick handling when he wants to

Everyone played good. Kindl looked great

Keep up the good defense

Agreed.

Kindl was good last night minus that blunder on the powerplay.

He was grabbed and hauled down.
