babcock's changed the second power-play unit up...link: http://www.mlive.com..._struggles.html

hudler replaces kindl on the point.

cleary replaces bert in front.

first pp unit remains the same - implying that miller might get more healthy scratches than homer.

i've updated this on the original post.

Mursak will be back around the All-Star break. What happens at that point. Waive Emmerton or Miller so that Nyquist stays up? Move Nyquist back to Grand Rapids? Waive Mursak?

You, and the other "Nyquist now!" posters, have yet to answer this question.

i've already changed my proposed lines in response to some of the more intelligent responses...lol

Filppula-Datsyuk-Cleary - - - - - or - - - - - Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary

Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi - - - - - or - - - - - Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Hudler-Nyquist-Eaves

Miller-Helm-Abdelkader

Holmstrom

Emmerton

Lidstrom-White

Kronwall-Stuart

Smith-Ericsson

Kindl

Howard

Conklin

So Helm is lower on the totem pole than Nyquist? Hudler has already proven to us he needs a playmaker to set him up, Nyquist is a scorer and Eaves is a checker, Hudler would be useless on that line. Plus you're still of opinion that Commodore won't be with the Wings anymore? Smith will ONLY be here for injury call ups, he will not have a permanent position on this team until at least next season. (barring major injury.) I know you said these are lines you would like to see, but can you keep it within reality? I'd like to see Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Ovechkin but it ain't gonna happen.

I'd like to see Filppula on Datsyuk's line again, they seemed to work wonderfully in the playoffs together. I also liked the Cleary - Helm - Eaves combo. Bert - Zetterberg and Franzen are great too. That would leave Abby, Holmstrom and Miller (rotating with Brunner and Emmerton.) No I didn't forget about Hudler, of course he will go where he can score, but I just cannot bring myself to list him on the first line with Datsyuk without my fingers burning...:P:lol:

You, and the other "Nyquist now!" posters, have yet to answer this question.

Honestly, I think those folks live in a perfect world where if Emmerton/Mursak or Miller gets sent down, nobody would touch them and they would remain in the organization. None of those players would make it through waivers. Some folks just don't get the concept that in this organization, as long as a player is waiver exempt, they are the one going to be sent down...

...he probably also thinks that since Smith was recalled from GRR, that it means he is here for the rest of the season because in all his line combos Commodore is missing... He has to get it through his head that Smith/Nyquist/Tatar etc... would only be temporary fill-ins for injuries and will be the ones sent to Rapids when the team is healthy.

The more pressing matter will be when Mursak gets back, who goes? I know that is a little while from now, but if Emmerton keeps it up and Brunnstrom plays like he did in the pre-season, it's going to be a tough, tough decision to be made... I am all for the kids revolution, but I also like Miller...

because the answer to the question is so obvious that we shouldn't have to answer it.

yes.

waive miller, emmerton or mursak. whoever's playing the worst, showing the least potential. three defensive depth forwards that lack a physical presence. it's not like we're releasing a stud here.

nyquist isn't a play-maker??

...you just made it clear to the entire board that you didn't watch a single pre-season game, and that you freely comment on topics you know nothing about.

honestly...who the hell cares if we lose the worst one player of miller/mursak/emmerton!? how much longer could all three possibly have a place in our organization anyways?

and i never said that smith SHOULD be called up. i laid out circumstances - which could happen - where i'd like to see him called up. stop putting words in my mouth please.

You just made it clear that you don't know what a playmaker is. Let me put it to you in layman's terms, Hudler needs someone to PASS HIM THE PUCK. Nyquist is a GOAL SCORER not A PASSER, aka a PLAYMAKER! He is a PlayFINISHER. When you have more goals than assists, that usually makes you a goal scorer. Here's an example, When Brett Hull was scoring all those goals in St. Louis, his PLAYMAKER was Adam Oates. In 1990-91 Hull had 86G and 45A, Oates had 25G 90A...Hudler needs to play with an Adam Oates, not a Brett Hull.

How much longer? As long as Nyquist still has waiver exemptions, that is how long. The NHL is a business. You don't "give away" players for nothing. Until Nyquist has no more waiver exemptions, he will always be the one sent down before the three above mentioned players. PLUS every line you put has Smith in the #5 or #6 spot and Commodore not even there. Again, Commodore was signed to play in Detroit, not get waived. AND AGAIN, as long as Smith has waiver exemptions left, he will be the one sent back and forth, business is business.

Maybe you should remove the foot out of your mouth, because you have no clue how the business of the NHL works...

Both Nyquist and Hudler lean more toward the playmaker side than finisher, though both can score goals pretty well.

I kinda like Miller and when the time comes I'd rather not see him waived/moved. That being said, I definitely do not want to see any of Mursak, Brunnstrom, or Eaves moved in lieu of Miller. Emmerton has also looked really sharp his first two games. We've also got to give Miller credit as he looked really good as well.

Basically I dont want to lose any of them but that's not going to be possible at some point this year.

leftwinger, you're giving crymson a run for his money in being my least favorite poster on the board.

1) Nyquist IS an excellent passer/set-up man. You clearly haven't seen him play. You were clearly just talking out of your rear. Just admit it and move on. You're only digging yourself deeper.

2) "he will always be the one sent down before the three above mentioned players." I take it you must've missed Babcock's interview, along with the pre-season. Babcock himself said that Nyquist will indeed be called up if he continues to play well in GR.

3) For the THIRD - and hopefully last - time, I didn't say Smith SHOULD be called up, I said I'd like to see him called up, and I laid out very specific circumstances under which such action would be appropriate.

Both Nyquist and Hudler lean more toward the playmaker side than finisher, though both can score goals pretty well.

agreed.

but i don't get this being EITHER a "play-maker" or a "scorer" business. Datsyuk is both. Nyquist is both.

well, we're gonna lose one when mursak comes back, and we're gonna lost another if we call up nyquist or make a trade-deadline acquisition.

what we should do is cut homer loose...like we should've cut lilja, maltby and draper loose to keep quincey, kopecky and leino. but that will never happen, will it?

How do you know? Emmerton could score 70 points this season and win the Calder. He has three points in four NHL games in limited duty, and has looked solid at both ends in those games.

Hmm. Miller, Emmerton, or Mursak... who is showing the least potential? Miller already has that one locked up. He's four years older and at best a marginally better player. He's not fast like Mursak and can't play center like Emmerton. And just to be complete, he's not fast like Eaves and doesn't have Eaves' shot, either.

Brunnstrom is another argument. He could be very good, or a complete waste of a contract. His career scoring so far is pretty decent; not too far below Hudler and Filppula for a player who is about the same age. The big question is about his issues over the past couple of seasons and whether his rookie year was a fluke.

You just made it clear that you don't know what a playmaker is. Let me put it to you in layman's terms, Hudler needs someone to PASS HIM THE PUCK. Hudler is one of the best playmakers on the team, so he shouldn't have issues with a skilled goal scorer or playmaker. His best season, however, did come when he was not the primary playmaker on his line all season. Last year he was the playmaker, even on the Datsyuk line.

I kinda like Miller and when the time comes I'd rather not see him waived/moved. That being said, I definitely do not want to see any of Mursak, Brunnstrom, or Eaves moved in lieu of Miller. Basically I dont want to lose any of them but that's not going to be possible at some point this year.

The solution is simple. Trade Hudler/Flip and Ericsson/Kindl plus maybe a first for Bogosian. I heard they are shopping him.

1. Hudler plays better with a setup man. So will Nyquist, they are best apart, not on the same line.

2. Ya, he will be called up if he continues to play well, for injury call ups. As long as he has waiver exemptions, he will be sent down when all are healthy, not Emmerton/Miller/Mursak because Holland or Babcock will not risk losing a player of their caliber for nothing. Now if a trade gets worked out and that opens a roster spot for Nyquist, it's a different story.

3. You keep saying it, but every line combo you have has Smith on there on Commodore missing, so again, Holland will not send Commodore to GR because someone will ****** him off the waiver wire. Smith will see his NHL time this year, more than last, BUT he will always be the one sent down when all are healthy for the same reason as #2.

...I am not saying your lines are stupid, or not even a possibility if we get injury riddled, but just saying from a business standpoint, they wont stay up if everyone is healthy.

what we should do is cut homer loose...like we should've cut lilja, maltby and draper loose to keep quincey, kopecky and leino. but that will never happen, will it?

...no, it wont.

not a big update..

but it pav and hank have been together more often than not thus far.

i think babs will put them together whenever we are a) going up against a team that's got their best two forwards on the same line...ala, the sedin twins...or b) struggling as a team.

They should roll em like this:

Cleary-Pavs-Huds

Franzen-Zetterberger-Helm

Abdelkader-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Eaves-Helm-Miller

Put Holmstrom in Helm's 2nd line spot when the team is up by 2 or more or Helm needs a blow. Holmstrom on PP too.

You DO realize that teams can only dress 12 forwards, right? Holmstrom's not in your lineup. Helm is there twice. So what happens; Helm centers his own line AND plays on Z's wing, or the Wings roll three lines and use Eaves, Miller, and Homer maybe 5-6 minutes a game each with half or more being special teams?

EXACTLY. Now you're getting it. If Helm gets tired, throw Eaves or Miller up there with Mule and Z for a shift. Just keep Holmstrom off the ice 5 on 5 until we have at least a 2 goal lead. Holmstrom's value is on the PP. Use him there, and give Helm/Eaves/Miller a bit more ice time 5 on 5 where they are more effective. Make sense?

Who's going to be the net presence? Who will score the dirty goals?

This would be a great skill line to watch, but IMO any gains from this line would be offset by loses to the other lines.

I'd just like to see if for a couple shifts a game is all. The Euro-Triplets.

it'd be good in the last minute of a game seven.
