babs revamped the lines tonight...http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/11/brendan_smith_excited_for_nhl.html

Hudler-Helm-Brunnstrom
Miller-Emmerton-Holmstrom
*Eaves
*Bertuzzi

Lidstrom-Ericsson
Kronwall-Smith

...Babcock said that Hudler, Brunnstrom and Holmstrom would rotate in for Abdelkader; and also that he wanted Cleary to focus on getting back to playing in front of the net.

Due to popular demand here on the board...I'm starting one official 'blueadams lines thread,' and I'm going to update it throughout the season (as opposed to starting 50+ different lines threads).

I was thinking the other day; in Hudler's 2008-09 season he was very effective on the second PP unit. How did that PP unit go?

The first unit was:
Holmstrom/Datsyuk/Hossa, Lidstrom/Rafalski

The second unit was:
Franzen/Zetterberg/Hudler, Kronwall/Samuelsson.

So why not take from that and do something like this:

Bertuzzi(Holmstrom)/Datsyuk/Filppula
Franzen/Zetterberg/Hudler
Abdelkader/Helm/Cleary
Holmstrom(Bertuzzi)/Emmerton/Miller(Eaves)
Brunnstrom

Run the top two lines, save for swapping Homer in for Bert, on the PP. Cleary and Bert work in up front. On D, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea to go with Lids/Kronwall and rotate Kindl, Ericsson, and Smith on the second unit. Or maybe Lids/Smith, Kronwall/Kindl.

But we know that the Franzen/Zetterberg/Hudler unit works very well on the PP; why not go back to it?

Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Cleary-Helm-Abdelkader
Hudler-Emmerton-Miller/Eaves
Brunnstrom

This is how I'd like to see them rolled.

...Problems: The Filppula-Zetterberg-Cleary line blows. Holmstrom sucks in the bottom six. We don't have a checking line.

...Solutions:

1) We need to get Zetterberg going somehow. The guy he's had the most chemistry with lately seems to be Franzen (who, IMO, doesn't really have great chemistry with Pav). So put Mule on Hank's wing. Bert, for whatever reason, only seems to not be completely worthless in the top six when he's playing with Bert (and, IMO, he doesn't really have great chemistry with Pav either). Make him the third man.

2) Still need to keep Pav going. Fortunately, the two guys that he has the best chemistry with (IMO) - Filppula and Holmstrom - are without a role. Put em all together. Simple enough. Now we've got two good scoring lines. Cleary and Abby (maybe Hudler?) can skate for Homer here and there when necessary.

3) Cleary doesn't belong anywhere near a top six role right now. Plug him in on the third line with Helm and Abby. Now we've got an actual checking line. Should make us more of a physical threat.

Babcock always does line juggling anyway. I always see him shifting guys around to make stuff happen during games.

Franzen - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi
Filppula - Zetterberg - Hudler
Cleary - Helm - Mursak
Miller - Abdelkader - Holmstrom

There you have it, what the line-up looks like at full strength. Eaves rotating in with whoever is out of form/injured.

Ken Holland: Hes (Mursak) a young guy, provides energy, can skate, hes a puck hound.

Is the Cleary-Helm-Miller line playoff worthy? As in, is this a line you can see Babs starting with at the beginning of the playoffs? Assuming the Wings make it, of course.

It's pretty simple - if the Holland wants to win a cup then either thru trades, call-ups, or signings, the wings need to find better players for the roles that Bertuzzi and Hudler currently play. Keep in mind none of the other active forwards belong in the top 6 either - especially Cleary.

The ironic thing is that overall our goaltending and defense is as good as it has been in years. Its the forwards that have taken a dive. Pretty much the opposite of our power years in the past.
Are you kidding? Block you? And miss watching you stumble around the forum looking for an argument like a dog sniffing butts? It would be like turning off a bad episode of Jerry Springer. You know you shouldn't be watching, but you just... can't... help... it...

Now that Helm is out and Nyquist is up, if I had to guess, the lines will for the most part stay the same.

Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi
Filppula-Zetterberg-Hudler
Cleary-Abdelkader-Miller
Andersson-Emmerton-Nyquist

I personally prefer Andersson at center though. Maybe Babs might have him in the middle instead but I'm thinking this is a 'paid your dues' kind of situation where Emmerton has first dibs on the center spot and plays there until he messes up.

I just don't like Nyquist being on the fourth line as it completely under utilizes his potential. I don't exactly have a solution as to where to put him without messing everything up, but I wouldn't mind seeing him on a line with Flip and Z and send Hudler to wherever.

Hudler-Datsyuk-Franzen
Filppula-Zetterberg-Nyquist
Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Cleary
Emmerton-Andersson-Miller

Ride the top 2 lines heavy for the most part. 3rd line is pretty solid. 4th used sparingly.

This is the only thing that really makes sense as hudler is useless on the 4th and nyquist should be in top 6.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?
