FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Seriously, wow. He got hit in the head during practice and there's no estimate on a return date. How's that 15 year contract looking again? I guess Nabokov figured he'd play this year since he'd get the starting gig eventually. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=378075
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Wow. Some goalies do that on purpose, and it doesn't bother them.
JasonNewEra 84 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Out of 246 games he's only played 39 of them? My GOD... Someone needs to grow some balls and get rid of him.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Out of 246 games he's only played 39 of them? My GOD... Someone needs to grow some balls and get rid of him. The sad thing is that he's actually immensely talented and capable of being a top goalie in the NHL. It's a damn shame he's built out of glass.

Carman 387 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 I hate the term injury prone, but DiPietro is as close to that definition of anyone in any sport. I want him to at least have one full good season, he's a good goalie.
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Have to wonder if the Isles don't just buy his contract out at some point & move on.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 It's the curse of the Wang. Seriously, I feel bad for the guy. He could be a good goaltender if he could ever stay healthy. Gee, I wonder why the Islanders wanted Nabby? 1 Smite reacted to this
Casey 145 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 The sad thing is that he's actually immensely talented and capable of being a top goalie in the NHL. It's a damn shame he's built out of glass. Come now, there are glasses that can be used as hammers. No way is glass as fragile as DiPietro. 1 sleepwalker reacted to this
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted October 15, 2011 If the Isles would have made a more reasonable in years, like, a third or fourth of that they gave DiPietro, they'd be in a better position to get a more steadfast goalie. Watching a couple games so far, their scoring and D look promising.
Guest 13GoWings40 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 Have to wonder if the Isles don't just buy his contract out at some point & move on. It would make a lot of sense, but then they'd be paying for him into the 2030's. Personally I'd just bury him in the minors. I know that's perceived as bad for future signings, but this is a little bit different story. Either that or "loan" him to some third rate league in a former Soviet country, they'll take him just because he appeared in NHL games.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Perhaps it's time to consider another line of work. Yeah, he absolutely needs to retire. The guy is never going to play anything close to a complete season. 1 Zetts reacted to this
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Have to wonder if the Isles don't just buy his contract out at some point & move on. Honestly, DiPietro should be the bigger man and retire. It's the least he could do for them since they hung onto him this long. 1 Zetts reacted to this

So if he's already made 27 million, he's still got 50 or so million left to go. 50 million? Gee, I think I'll retire. Like I said, GIMME A BREAK.
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 He doesn't need to retire, He actually helps the Isles make the cap floor. If this was a team that was spending to the cap every year then yea you would consider a buy out or something, but the Isles never wanted to invest money into the team for his sake and to make them a better team so why should he do them a favor???
